I woke up to a completely flat tire the other day with a huge machine screw in the tire... I thought it was a gouge that was going to be beyond repair and need to buy a new tire. With dread I looked up on yelp a local place... Larry's came up with great reviews and I realized that my wheel and brake guy recommended Larry's to me a while back. Really wanted to like those old farts but sadly they replaced my tires three different times, unable to explain why they were wearing unevenly. Each time I asked for them to be aligned and was given some gobbledy gook response and deflection. When I pressed him on the issue the final time, he finally admitted they are not able to do alignment there. Just keeping selling the woman new tires over and over again! Today I need to get the last tire they put on removed for a brake job and they torqued it on so hard the shop can't get it off and will probably have to crack the stud off to do my job. Argh! Good place. They got me in and out of there in the time they said they would. Only had one guy working there to take care of the office stuff and working on cars. So could use another guy there to make things run smoother. Got a good deal on my tires. I don't think my alignment was done properly. Car pulls to the right a little bit need to take it back in to get it fixed. Probably will come back tho. read more

Walked in to get tires changed after calling in for a quote last week. Walked in to be met with a receptionist doing her make up for ten minutes and ignoring me. The place wasn't busy. I came in to Larry's tire today to just ask for a price quote for a set of tires. I go inside their office and wait, and wait and wait. One guy that works there sees me doesnt say anything and asks another lady inside to pull her car in. I look over at the guy and he starts dismounting her tires on her car and completely ignores me. There were a total of 2 people i saw working. One guy in the garage so i knew he was busy working on a customers car. Another guy not doing anything expect talking to one of the customers who is having their car worked on, about random things not even about the service being done to her car. I normally hear very good things about Larry's tire from friends who have gone there, so i decided to see how much tires would be for my car but i was completely ignored. I was there for about 10-15min and no one even bothered to help me. read more

Good prices and staff is friendly and helpful - particularly Steve. He is quite willing to offer you different options and once you buy a set of tires from them, you can bring your car back for free tire rotations and checks to see if you need a wheel alignment. It's true that sometimes you have to wait a little bit if no one is at the front desk or he is on the phone, but I think it's worth the wait. read more

To be clear, this review is for the service, not the actual tires, although they do seem to be scrubbing in quite well. I had a most unusual issue with my right front tire as I heard a rhythmic thwacking sound in time with the rotation of my tire. I pulled over but couldn't see anything. I drove slowly home -it was evening and decided to check it the next morning. Well, next morning, the tire has about 1/2 the amount of pressure in the tire. I checked Yelp for tire guys in the area and found Larry's Tire Service. Drove in at 10am. They had me drive right on in and put the car up so they could look at the tire. My steel belted radial was what was broken & the sidewall of the tire had a tear. Explained both problems. I couldn't see the steel radial since it was on the inside of the tire. I knew the other front needed replacement but I wasn't close to the tread wear marker on the rear tires. However they were almost bald inside. The guys looked for some comparable tires to the performance ones I had. They got me a great deal for high performance Sumitomo HTR rated Z for speed and 50,000 warranty. Now if you have never heard of Sumitomo tires, don't worry. I did research. They are very good Japanese high performance tires, and you mostly see them in America sold as Dunlops as well. Save yourself about $45 or more per tire by getting these over the Goodrich high performance tires. The guys ordered the tires for me at 10:15am, got them in the shop around 1:30pm and my car was ready for pick up by 2:30pm. WHAT SERVICE!! All new tires, properly balanced and aligned and a great deal to boot in 5 hours time. I am so impressed. I'll be back around 45-50k miles to Larry's for my next set. Thanks guys. read more

I usually do not write bad reviews at all but, I have had to spend way more money than I needed to. I got new tires with alignment last year and I didn't meet any of the workers because I was busy (full-time college student and worker) so my bf did it for me. I got this service done around March 2013 and in December, my bf noticed that my front tires had uneven wear. The outer edges were balding! I googled the wear pattern and it was characteristic of alignment issues. I thought that could not be possible because I just had them aligned! My tires should not be balding along the edges! Again, I was too busy to bring it in to shop to ask them to replace my tires, so my bf did. (Gotta love a man that gets things done :]) He told me the worker he was talking to kept telling him it was not their problem. He said the worker (don't know his name, older white man) kept trying to dismiss him and cut him off. My bf insisted that they should replace it since it was covered under warranty. The worker told him he would see. Luckily, my bf brought it back a couple days later and the worker said he managed to get 1 tire to be replaced (reason for 1star). So I was not as upset with them but my driver side tire as well as alignment was still messed up. The reason for this rating: I am a broke college student barely paying my bills. I do NOT have the extra money to pay for the SAME issues, but I have had to deal with it due to their poor mechanical/customer service. Now, I have finally saved up enough money to pay for a USED tired to make up for the driver side tire which they did not replace. The tire's edge was bald and it had developed a 3inch crack! I am going to get my car aligned today too to make up for their poor alignment service. Spending all of this extra money today has brought up my built up anger/frustrations, which has led me to write this review. read more

When I was living in South San Francisco, I had called 4 different places to put my new tires on my car. I bought tires online because I wanted specific tires, and every place wanted to charge me $40 a tire (including a shop a good family friend owns!). I moved to El Sobrante recently and decided to find someone local since I finally needed to put my new tires on my car. The guys were extremely friendly and definitely didn't charge $40 a tire. Brought my truck here for brakes and balance after another place said my front brakes needed replacing. They called within 30 minutes to say the brakes were fine and the balance was done. So rare to find a honest repair shop. Stooped by a few days later because it was pulling left and they fixed it quick, no charge, with a smile by adding air in my tires. Took a wheel and tire in because the tire had been punctured by a screw. After standing around for about 15 minutes in the office and in front of the shop, someone finally decided to acknowledge me. Told the guy I just wanted to have the tire repaired and explained that one of my wheels had been scratched at another tire place and could be take extra care. Guy responds with "it might get scratched, it might not, we don't make any guarantees". Ummm, so yeah, I'm gonna leave a wheel from my 2 month old VW with some jerk that can't mount a tire without damaging the wheel. So I say, "well I'm telling you this because I don't want the it to get scratched" and Mr. Bad Attitude Wheel Scratcher Man retorts "well, good luck with that!" Looks like some other reviewers did leave their cars with Mr. Wheel Scratcher and he did indeed scratch 'em up. I say skip this place, not only are they rude but they seem incompetent, don't guarantee the quality of their work, and oh yeah did I mention the bad attitude and rude service. read more

I've used Larry's Tire Express for two different cars between the years of 2013-2016. Service was always fast and friendly, and they are really a community place.
