cool spot on the beach but food could have been better. my chilaquiles lacked hella flavor which was surprising since the presentation was good. the vibes were nice with the view we had. service was very iffy and i probably wouldn't be back. mid tier for the price

We stumbled upon this place for an early dinner and loved the huge window views in the dining room. Looking at the menu we weren't too impressed and the waitress said they are in the process of making a new menu. We ordered some sushi and sashimi which had huge thick cuts of fresh fish and the Chilean sea bass. Everything was fresh, we just wish there was a little more to offer in choices of entrees and appetizers. Next time we would love to go to the bar area that had the vibes of a lounge as they played R&B music starting at 7:30pm. Overall the restaurant had a beautiful view and great for watching sunset with a drink in hand.

another great early dinner/late night at larsens! can't go wrong with ordering anything off the menu, the sushi is great, seafood is fresh and the shrimp rigatoni was so flavorful. will definitely come back again!!

Ambiance- 5/5 Beautiful and ocean front views Nice decor Service -4/5 Friendly and fairly attentive would have appreciated a check in after entrees came out Also had to ask twice about someone's glass of wine that hadn't arrived in quite sometime (while other cocktails had come out) Food-2/5 Came here for my birthday with a group of friends on a Saturday night It wasn't crowded (we did make a reservation and asked for indoor) Oysters-2/5 I love oysters but these tasted more fishy than normal and weren't well shucked (small pieces of shell and still partially attached to the shell ) Sea bass-5/5 a couple of people ordered this and it was delicious and perfectly cooked (I tried a couple bites!) Halibut-2/5 all 3 of us who ordered this all agreed it was dry and overcooked. Didn't want to send it back since we'd have to wait and the other people's food came out fine but do nearly $52 it was very disappointing Drinks-4/5 Lola- too sweet for my taste, pretty much tasted like juice but it was pretty! Smoking angels- very good!! Loved the drink and the presentation Espresso martini- excellent, well made Also disappointing they don't do anything for birthdays. My friends wanted me to have a candle so we had to order a dessert (and pay for it). I'll be going elsewhere for future special occasions and will likely stick to just going to their bar going forward

Brought my mom here for lunch and we had a great time! The views are incredible and the staff was very friendly. The food was really good too. The fried calamari is a must-have and they were able to make us an amazing Hugo spritz even if it wasn't on the menu! Parking was easy-- they have valet beside the hotel

Larsen restaurant, located within the Hotel Laguna has one of the nicest spots in the area for sunset views, located right on the beach in Laguna Beach. The Miso Halibut is well prepared and has a nice flavor palette. The Spicy Tuna Rolls were also well prepared and fresh. The current menu is unfortunately a bit smaller and more limited than the original menu, but the hotels' ambiance and views help compensate for it. The service was adequate. The restrooms in the hotel definitely need updating and look a bit institutional, like public school restrooms. Although the restaurant was not very busy on Easter evening, the hostesses were not overly welcoming or attentive.

Larsen just does it for me. As a local I'm very picky about where I give my business, especially during tourist season bur Larsen maintains high quality service, food and ambiance throughout the year. Our server Hector is absolutely lovely. He is attentive and professional even though the restaurant is busy. We got the seafood plate, and it was excellent. The sushi is to die for as well. Just a great spot in general.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The service was absolutely amazing! It's been a long time since I've seen the ocean and our server moved us closer to the where I could see the beach better. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous and when it got dark it got chilly so they had all of the outdoor heaters on. There were three of us and we shared three sushi rolls, (Maui, Bitchin and Sunset roll) some fries and poke nachos. Everything tasted phenomenal!!!! And then my drink was The Artist Formerly Known as Lola. Absolutely delicious! Even if you go for a couple of drinks or lite appetizers. Being able to watch the sunset and the beach is totally worth it. There is nothing negative for me to say. Don't walk....run here and maybe go for a walk on the beach after! You won't regret it!

Came to Larsen's finally to celebrate a birthday! Beautiful view overlooking the ocean with stunning natural light. Overwhelmed by delicious food options! Service was good and quick for our large party. I got the Sunset Roll and was satisfied. Good quality fish- I think I have a good spice tolerance but the spicy tuna was pretty spicy!! Pricy, naturally, and hectic parking in the midst of downtown Laguna, but enjoyed my brunch!

I have a soft spot for Hotel Laguna. I practically grew up with this place. Birthdays, long lunches, late afternoons that bled into night. It is woven into my idea of what Laguna is. So when Larsen opened in that historic, impossible-to-beat setting on the water, downtown, postcard-perfect, I wanted it to succeed. Badly. Unfortunately, wanting something does not make it so. We made a reservation, arrived on time, and were greeted politely enough before being led to what can only be described as the patio graveyard. A two top on the water, yes, but flanked by discarded umbrellas and idle heaters, like we had been seated in the storage room with a view. Menus and water arrived quickly. Then nothing. Twenty minutes passed. No greeting. No drinks. No human contact. Eventually I went hunting for help and flagged down a busser, who summoned our server, Jose. Jose was the bright spot of the night. He nailed the apology and from that point forward was attentive, informed, and genuinely professional. He knew the menu. He knew the wine list. He did everything a good server is supposed to do when the wheels are already coming off. Unfortunately, the wheels were coming off. Several items on the already limited menu were unavailable, a red flag for any restaurant, let alone one charging big-league prices in a town that eats out for sport. My seventy five dollar ribeye arrived cut thin as a breakfast steak, offering no chance at proper caramelization or character. My wife's salmon was fine. She might order it again. I would not. I later learned there has been management turnover and the kitchen is being rebuilt. That may explain shortages. It does not explain the service breakdown, the confused presentation, or the sense that no one is really in control of the room. Laguna is unforgiving to restaurants. The competition is brutal, the clientele experienced, the expectations high. This location should be one of the great dining rooms of the coast. Right now, it is just a beautiful stage with a shaky production. Hats off to Jose for trying to save the night. He was the professional in the building. But Larsen, as it stands, is not ready for the spotlight. And in a town like Laguna, that matters.

Place was amazing! The food was bomb and on top of that with a beautiful view of the beach! Service was great, very friendly staff!

    Sunset

With many restaurants, it's location, location, location. That definitely applies here, where you get winning sunsets and as close to the beach as you can get (except, maybe for Splashes restaurant). The service here is a little hit or miss - it might depend on how many staff they have on hand, what time of day, and what season it is. We had a server that was very friendly, but disappeared for long periods of time. The food is beautifully presented and very good, but not to the level of greatness. They do have a separate kitchen supplying the sushi rolls, and if you order the bread basket, that is actually baked in San Juan Capistrano. I am not 100% sure that the Hotel Laguna, where this restaurant is located, is fully open, but this restaurant inside is open. The ambiance inside is clean and bright, and the view on the outside patio is amazing on a beautiful day.

very upset the hostess with the black hair was rude Won't come again :(

The owner served us initially, and he was really friendly and funny. We ordered a bottle of wine, and some cocktails. We put in some salads and an appetizer, they were really really good. But after that, our server (the owner we were told) left, and another server introduced himself. The new server was inattentive. He sat chatting with the other servers at the bar, leaving empty glasses and empty plates on the table. We had to flag him to come back to fill water. Having been myself in the service industry for years, my biggest pet peeve is when servers sit and chat where you can see them, and when they do come, they don't do a sweep and take care of things on the table. We had to put our empty glasses and trash on a side table. It was weird. The bolognese had hardly any meat in it. It was mostly tomato and onion. I've been to Argentina. Meat is a staple. Also weird. We ordered dessert and after waiting for 5-10 minutes, the server came back and told us they were missing crucial ingredients to make it. The owner came back at the end and was really gracious, but all in all, I think the execution was lacking. The service was not great.
