I wanted to take the time to update my previous review. Since AVL finished our backyard last October, the ground in our yard settled because we had a pool filled in. Due to that, our seat wall cracked in a couple areas and some of the pavers began shifting. When we noticed the changes, I decided to contact AVL to see what they can do. James the office manager set up an appointment. Then Ken and the crew came by to repair what was needed. They replaced the cracks and the gaps on the seat wall as well as the pavers on the ground that lifted. They have great customer service and a warranty that is unheard of to cover their workmanship on pavers and tile work. Usually, after a contractor is done with a project you may have a couple months (if at all) to have them come back for repairs. AVL stands by their work and we are proof that they are honest and will come back if you need them too. I would continue to recommend this company!

This is the finished project. It was weed and dirt everywhere to begin with!

An overdue review for the backyard project Almaden Valley Landscape worked on for us last year. From the start James had been very responsive to email and Ken working on our quote. We must have went back and forth 7-8 times before finalizing the design. One tip is that Ken will work around your budget so make sure you let him know your budget. We live in a new development home with an unfinished backyard with just dirt. We had a lot of weed growing out which they got rid of in a day's work. Ken is such an experienced landscape designer, he worked with us on designing our pavers, seating wall curvature, sprinklers system, lighting, built-in BBQ and all the types of plants. I showed him pictures from Pinterest of the double sided fireplace we liked and he was able to recreate it in our backyard. That fireplace is a center piece and we can't get enough good comments about it from our guests. This was a 6 week project and there was some on and off days, they did not come everyday working on it as they had multiple projects at the same time. Ultimately it got done in a 8 week time frame. Ken was not hesitant to come back and fix our sprinklers when there were issues. I highly recommend James, Ken, Dominic and their team to work on your landscape. From design to hands on work, they will bring your vision to life. Ken is very honest and he will give you a fair bid on your job.

We could not be happier with Almaden Valley Landscaping and the way they transformed our yard. Ken and his team went beyond the call of duty to make sure I was happy with all of their work. "I decided I don't want that plant there after all - can you replant it?" "Can you move that one over about 6 inches?" "Could I get more azaleas?" They cheerfully made changes and didn't make me feel like I was a pain. The crew (managed by John) was wonderful - in fact, my neighbors stopped to tell me how polite and professional they were. Ken and I changed the layout of the yard 4 times, and he was always upbeat and helpful with suggestions. I had mentioned early on that I liked some hanging wall plantings I had seen at a botanical garden and Ken said he'd like to try a version. We didn't mention it again...but when I drove home one afternoon and stepped into the backyard - there is was! (Photo below). I love it, and our whole yard (front, back and side). Thank you Almaden Valley Landscaping!

I have worked with Darrick for a few years. While the service he initially implemented was good and…read moremet general expectations, I feel a lot of confusion and frustration regarding his communication style. This is not a one-time issue; throughout our interaction over the past few years, there has been a recurring pattern of him agreeing to a specific day or time to come by and then simply not showing up. This has happened quite a few times, with the most recent experience being the final straw. I first reached out in September 2025 regarding a sprinkler issue. After a no-show then, I followed up again in March 2026. Once again, he confirmed a timeframe to swing by, but never arrived and provided no follow-up to explain why. I have attached two snips of our message history here for reference. I have always tried to be patient, flexible, and polite, even offering additional fees to ensure his time was covered. If a professional finds a request unreasonable or is too busy, it is much better to simply say so. Instead, being 'ghosted' repeatedly makes it very difficult to plan or maintain a property. While I appreciate the work he has done in the past, the lack of reliability makes it hard to continue with his services.

We had a negative experience working with this company. Our paver patio is only a year old and it…read moreis falling apart. Our paver installation was a very choppy job where just after a few months our pavers turned dry, cracked, and shifted in many areas. We think that they were installed unevenly and without the proper support for the base. He has come back a few times to do "repairs" but the problem is the same.. the pavers keep cracking and shifting. When it rains our patio collects a bunch of puddles because it wasn't installed at a proper angle for drainage and so many of the middle pavers have sunk. Originally Darrick had said that he "wanted to make it right" and fix the patio but it takes him months to be available to come fix even the smallest things. Darrick also installed fresh sod with sprinklers but 3 of the corners have continued to die despite having even water coverage (per Darirck). Overall our lawn has grown very unevenly and it is very lumpy. It also has many different shades of green and different areas grow faster than others. He continuously blames the issues on my dogs urine and that we don't water it enough but the dog never goes on the corners where the grass keeps dying and we always water it based on his recommendations. We have been waiting for the second time since July and it is now the end of December and he has still not fixed it. Additionally, he will also leave his trash and supplies out in our yard for months at a time. Darrick is incredibly unprofessional because an honest contractor will come address the problems in a timely manner. He will not reply or make the proper repairs.

We obtained 4 bids for our backyard project but we selected CLC based on work we personally saw that was completed within the last 2-5 years on homes that were on the same street we live on. CLC was not the lowest bid, but we went forward based on reviews. First the good stuff... Demolition of existing material and forming of the pending concrete work was done fairly quickly. Clint took time to work with us and presented options from Brickform and showed us some pictures of work he previously completed. After spending some time discussing options, we decided on the color scheme, pattern, etc, and the pour was finally scheduled. We were crossing our fingers as it's our first time dealing with stamped concrete. On to the concerns... It was forecasted to be a hot day (90's by noon), on the day of the pour. Thus the CLC crew started very early in the morning to do final preparation work which they did not complete, but soon enough the concrete truck and pump arrived. After the pour was completed, Clint and his crew proceeded on with the stamping, coloring and applying hand joints to the concrete. We were told not to step on the concrete for several days to allow it to cure so we could not see any results of the initial work. After over a week of allowing the concrete to cure, we finally were given the "okay" to be able to step on the concrete. We immediately identified few areas of concern. We found to be visible borders of the stencil used to stamp the concrete, an area that seemed to have been double stamped, and an area that was not stamped. We immediately called Clint and he scheduled to come by within a few days to analyze the situation. As soon as he arrived, he was very honest and recognized where we had pointed out the areas of concern. He had indicated that he would do his best to work on some of the areas and to hopefully make it right before he would seal the concrete. Hence we trusted the process. After he finally sealed the concrete we were told not to step on it and let the seal dry for another 24-48 hours. However we were conservative and did not step on it for 96 hours. After finally stepping out to see the finished work, we did find that Clint was able to fade out the borders of the stencil on most areas we pointed out. However other areas just presented dark spots and rough areas which I believe could not be repaired unless Clint broke out the sections and reworked it. I have provided pictures of the areas of concern for your viewing. Finally, they poured around one of our AC unit's hoses, rather than adjusting properly for it. As comparison, please look at pictures # 24 and 28 posted on Jan 12, 2017 on this yelp review, which is what we expected the "finished" work somewhat come close to. Lastly, the cleanup process and finishing touches were not done as you would expect. For example.... 1) Stones they needed to move to complete the form were not dumped but rather left in the side of my yard. 2) They seemed to have lost the cap to one of the cleanouts which they had to form around, but rather took one from the side of the house and left that one open. 3) They cut a PVC conduit that had electrical wiring which powered a structure they demo'd to eliminate any electrical hazard but did not clean up the pipe. 4) Demo of our yard resulted in rocks that CLC should have dumped along with debris from the demo. Instead, they left a few rocks and pushed it aside towards my fence. CLC will say "we are not an excavating company" but a contractor should clean up debris or mess as a result of their work. 5.) Finally, a portion of our fence they had to break down to allow for the hose from the concrete truck/pump to reach our back yard was not put back together well. I had to nail and secure the boards that they left loose. To be fair, I would say that 90% of the work appears to be done well. However, it's the 10% that is an eye sore and unfortunately very visible. Please feel free to look at pictures we posted or feel free to message me for more details.

In the planning phase Octavio took the time to fully understand what we want, and proposed very artistic snd innovative solutions to get us what we want (he proposed a very nice curving of a sitting area concrete to hide a fence angle and it worked great and looked amazing). He made sure everything is well documented before starting the work, and gave us enough time to evaluate the plan, and accommodated all our requests. We never felt rushed and he was very patient in explaining all the details and all whats required. During execution he was there continuously, evaluating the progress and open to any feedback we have. When something was not clear to us he took the time to explain it well. When we needed samples to evaluate a color or a material he provided it promptly. And his execution was flawless. He was there working with the crew and ensuring that things were up to plan. The execution wad very thorough and the crew wad very meticulously working through all details (all stones places with measurement and everything was set level and the stepping paths were all checked for level with respect to each other; the concrete curving was done using a string to draw a proper circle and the frame was made matching to ground ... etc). They really rook their time to execute properly and did not rush or overlook any detail. And they accommodated all our requests. It was work of art. Once the job was done they left us the remaining materials to use/store as needed and they did a great job cleaning and making sure things looked nice. I am really happy with their work. They are going to be my goto person for projects going forward.
