Before I gave Las Amazonas a review I wanted to try them out more than once to see if my experience would be any different. During my first visit, I was very pleased with the outcome of my hair, but was a little annoyed with how they managed everything. During my first appointment I had 3 different people do my hair at various points. I didn't like this because every stylist has their own way of doing things and in my opinion consistency is important. All the stylist also use the same thick gel. I'm not a fan of slathering gel on my scalp because it leaves a white residue. This was my first time going to another stylist so I wasn't used to this. My stylist didn't grease or oil my scalp either which I think is essential when doing hair. Lastly, I noticed I had to pay for my service before my hair was done. I also thought this was a little weird. The second time I went was better. One stylist did my hair the entire time and I was happy with the outcome. PROS: - prices are affordable! ITS A NO FOR ME Horrible came in just for a wash i am a loctian myself i have super long medium locs therefore its hard for me to wash my hair myself so i came here to get it washed only i dont retwist my hair that often Haven't washed my hair in 1month and told the lady they have washing hair that i would really like a great wash its super dirty the only thing she did was wash around the perimeter of my head thats it she didn't wash my ends not the middle of my hair now i have to go home and wash it over myself my hair still feels dirty and the tugging of the locs is a NO NO .......... I love this hair salon!! They really know what they're doing, and are quick about styling. They are always full of customers which also speaks to the talent of the stylists. I usually go for a retwist and style which is usually around $70 before tip which is a great deal in my opinion. Thus price also includes washing and steaming! Finally found a home base salon that keeps my hair healthy and red!. I have been going there for about 2 years now and I have nothing but good things to say. They are very homely and friendly. Las Amazonas is nothing short of an amazing salon. I arrived bright and early and was treated with TLC. I told the stylists it was my first time getting my locs twisted professionally and they made every effort to explain the process and make me feel comfortable along the way. Been going here for years. I've always gotten compliments from people on the street after I get my hair done. I've gone other places and paid alot more only to have the style not last or my locs unravel quickly. Don't be afraid to ask questions or if you have a preference of What you want put in your hair, tell them. It gets crowded on the weekends and I've spent many hours waiting to get serviced but for the price and the results, it's totally worth it. I'd recommend coming during the weekday If you have time on the weekend. No appointment needed they all help out with washing, interlocking and styling. Prices are very good too. They lock hair with GEL as a default. I don't like gel because it flakes up my hair after a week or so. They have other products to loc your hair if you ask though. Highly recommended. read more

Extremely unprofessional and ghetto environment. I came here twice (because they were recommended for their talents) with disastrous results. The first time the staff got into a huge, screaming alteration with a neighboring store owner that resulted in the police being called into the salon. I was interviewed by the police during my hair appointment. The second time was a scheduled bridal appointment where the owner failed to show for two hours because she was preparing for her vacation and gave multiple angry customers the same appointment time. Her poor assistants were calling frantically to try to figure out where she was since they could not style my hair. I ended up leaving because I did not want these people to ruin my special day. They may be talented but the lack of professionalism and the extremely ghetto environment makes it a terrible experience. Do yourself a favor and go a salon where they respect their customers and do not conduct their business so poorly. read more

When I started my locs I needed a nearby salon to maintain them. My first visit there one month after loc'ing they told me they could style my hair. I was so happy with the hairstyle that they became my go to place. 7 years later and I'm still a client . They are walk in only. You sign in, grab a number, and any stylist can wash, retwist and style your hair. They are always busy but you will be properly treated. Get ready for compliments as soon as you walk out the door. I refer them to anyone that asks about my hair. Melissa understands how tender headed I am and won't let me leave the salon until my hair is exactly how she and I envision it. read more

This is the only salon I've ever been in where your hair is actually cared for. Melissa and her Mom treat you like family. The lock styles are awesome. Most customers started their locks here and now have locks down their backs.
