I had a wonderful lunch here. It's a lot larger inside than you'd think. As you enter, there is a cafeteria display case of many of their dishes. They do a lot of take out. And the parking lot out front is very busy. Past the entrance, there's a sit down dining room and even a full bar. We seated ourselves. They brought over menus. It helps to have a bit of Spanish here. I ordered their shrimp in garlic sauce (camarones al ajillo). The shrimp in sauce was on a separate plate. For sides, it came with yellow rice mixed with veggies and sweet plantains (maduro) . I could have scooped up the garlic sauce with a spoon -- absolutely delicious! The shrimp were firm and fresh. The plantains nicely caramelized and sweet. My husband got a beef steak with onions. He said it was a little dry. I happily shared some of my garlic sauce with him. And that helped. I really want to go back and try some of their other dishes -- there were some things displayed that I didn't see on the printed menu. I'll remember this lunch for some time. read more

We've found our new go-to spot for authentic Dominican cuisine--Las Americas Restaurant. I got review rights on here since I'm from the DR . Great place. More mofongo a million ways than anything. No mangu on the menu but it was lunch so need to check back at breakfast time. Get the mofongo con camarones for an app and you have to try the chuletas con moro. Great prices, great service. We made it right on time before the lunch rush on Father's Day. The place can get packed really quick. Looks like they also have music and dancing at night but need to double check that. They have Dominican cake from time to time and we got lucky and nabbed a few pieces for the house before leaving. Parking is tiny and the outside doesn't do the place justice. Outstanding food. clean and pleasant interior, good service, very reasonable pricing - this is one of my favorite places. My friend and I are often the only gringos in there but, fortunately, she speaks a little Spanish so we manage well. The place gets very loud so go during off hours. English is certainly not the prevailing language and sometimes the staff will have to hunt down another employee to help a customer who doesn't speak Spanish. This one had a very good seasoning and the piece of meat was really tender and was easy to chew and cut. I just wished they had a bit more pieces of meat and maybe some yuca. We waited an hour for the food, seems as if they take care of their regulars like VIP and forget about the new customers. My fiancé had to get up to get us our menu, The waitress brung us glasses but forgot to bring us water, we saw how busy it was so we figured we'd help out by just ordering something simple from the buffet. After 45 minutes of waiting she came to us and said there was no more yellow rice. The whole experience was horrible, I love my Dominican peeps, but this type of service is unacceptable. I decided to also try a passion fruit juice- "Parcha" and it was so good I almost ordered a 2nd one but that would've put me to sleep...LOL for those that know what parcha is and does, you understand , ) My friend ordered the tostones (fried plantain) with Grouper and I was like WOW! very tasty. The ambiance is nice, has a home feeling to it where the tables are close, the music playing throughout the restaurant makes you want to get up and dance salsa or bachata. The staff are very welcoming and the food is made fresh from the kitchen to your table, which is a must in many latin american countries, you simply can't just eat anything thats been sitting for a few minutes- it must be eaten hot, fresh from the stove/oven. Very filling and generous portions for the price which by the way is not expensive at all. Where I live up in the Chicago area, these dishes would be priced alot higher and you would not get the portion like you do here.
