We came in yesterday for Father's Day and were immediately seated, party of two adults and two kids. Place was not busy at all, so we were very surprised and disappointed that food took almost 40 minutes to come out. Ordered margaritas from the happy hour menu since we got there about 10 minutes before the end of happy hour. Margaritas felt off, tasted more like watered down lemonade and a hint of tequila. When the food finally came out, we were disappointed. The beans were simply a watery black bean sauce than actual beans. Kids tacos were simply a flour tortilla with chunks of cold steak meat. For a $90+ dinner, the experience didn't match the price, particularly given the delayed food service and average food. I'll have to try this place some other time but based on our experience, I understand some of the lower reviews of this restaurant.

Yes! Finally a Mexican place in the Boise area that I can rate 5-stars. This is no "Sysco Mexican" place where sitting down means you get a basket of chips and saucers of jar salsa and pinto-lard puree. You can taste the Oaxacan and Tex-Mex origins of the food. I prefer Oaxacan over Tex-Mex. Flavorful, with depth, and leaves you wanting to come back. Service was decent as it was busy. The ambiance is more of a modern restaurant than a tacky Tijuana vomit vest. The dia de los meurtos vibe is pretty cool. Ceviche was fresh and flavorful. While I like a little white fish in it as well, their ceviche was the best I've had since spending time down in the Yucatan. The freshly prepared tortilla chips are crisp and built to scoop. Their regular salsa is very good as well. Personal taste, but I would like a little more roast on the peppers for a deeper flavor. You know, like you get when peppers are directly placed on hot coals to roast. The birria flautas were crispy and the meat was spot on in terms of flavor and perfectly cooked pork. I had a couple bites of the surf and turf tacos - bam! So good. Their home cooked churros with the churro fried ice cream were absolutely perfect. The ice cream coating, I would give 4-stars as the exterior was a bit chewy in texture for me. It was almost as if there oats used to hold it together. Yeah, we'll be back.

For my Galentines with my friends, we decided to hit up Las Calaveras. We have been to quite a few spots in Boise for our monthly outings so we wanted to check out something in Meridian. I have heard nothing but great things about this joint so I was hyped to come here. I arrived at 4:30 and it was pretty chill. There were a few tables already enjoying happy hour and some patrons at the bar. I knew I was going to have a great experience at this joint cause it was already semi busy this early in the evening. Kayla greeted me while I was looking over the menu. I ordered a Coke zero and chilled till my friends showed up. What I appreciate about the menu here is that it's reasonably priced. For a joint in downtown Meridian, they totally could have set a high price point. Tacos at 4 bucks. Tapas ranging around 5 or so. Happy hour prices were legit too. We wanted start off with some flautas and crispy jalapenos as an appetizer. I ordered a cup of their chicken tortilla soup with sour cream and avocado. I also got 2 orders of shrimp and chorizo Tapas to share with my friends. The flautas are so good! The tortilla was crispy and airy. The chicken in the inside was flavorful and tender. It was topped with all sorts of goodies and creama. The jalapeno appetizer was creamy and spicy. You can taste the salty bits of bacon. The cream cheese did help tame the heat of the jalapenos. They didn't hold back of the jalapenos, they were prominent. Those 2 appetizers are a must have! Our second round of food came and everyone's food looked fabulous! My soup had a generous amount of sour cream and avocado in top. There were hearty pieces of chicken, tomatoes and tortilla strips in every bite. The broth was savory and rich with a slight kick. The skewers I got had good sized shrimp and chorizo. It was topped with creama and cojita. I shared a couple with my friend and had a couple myself. They weren't shy with the portion of the shrimp and chorizo. I was so full from the soup, a couple skewers and our appetizers. I took the rest home to my daughter and she really enjoyed them as well. Las Calaveras has one of the dopest vibes to it. The music, the decor, the atmosphere, it's perfection. The venue is stunning, the food is hella good and the staff is super nice. I took my daughter to a similar themed restaurant for her birthday in Eagle and left so disappointed. I should have brought her here! We would have had a better experience at half the cost. By the time we left, the restaurant was packed. Packed on a Tuesday night. I can see why it was so busy! Las Calaveras hits the mark. They are fantastic and the crowd proves it. I look forward to coming back again with my friends or my daughter for another round of happy hour. I was dope I got to try this spot out. Looking forward to coming back very soon!

Came here after church for lunch and will say it's such a fun place, in a great spot, and we really enjoyed our experience. The service was good, recommendations were good, and the food was fast, fresh and delicious. They had a great brunch menu, and everything we ordered was great. We would definitely go back and try other menu offerings.

The good: Chips are pretty good! Drinks look tasty (haven't tried yet). Atmosphere is pretty snazzy. The bad: Iced tea is weak. I knew the second it came out that it was going to be water with a hint of tea. Queso is split. Oil on the top. When stirred, the texture is that of cheese soup and it's doesn't have a strong cheese flavor. If Cream of Cheese was a thing this would be it. We ordered it as a dip and unfortunately we ordered the burritos smothered in it before trying it. Entrees were nothing to write home about. We ordered two burritos one with "Birria" and the other vegetarian. The birria was closer to weeknight crockpot pot roast w/ minimal seasoning. Again, not terrible...but unexpected. The ugly: Table was comically wobbly.

My husband and I were anxious to try this New Mexican Restaurant called "Las Calaveras" in downtown Meridian. We arrived around 1pm and got a nice booth near the front. I had the Huckleberry Margarita and it was really good. We ordered the chips & guacamole and the guacamole definitely had a little heat to it. Again, delicious and the chips were the crispy thick ones. We shared the Combo Fajitas and I wish the corn/flour tortillas were the next size up. They were the really small ones therefore it was hard to put all the toppings on the shell. Hopefully they read this and take the steps to buy the next size. The inside of the restaurant is decorated really nice and the wait staff was also nice. Our waitress was Sophia and she was very pleasant. We will definitely be coming back again to try different things in the men

Unique vibe offering a nice selection of Mexican "cuisine." Service by Alejandro was attentive. Ordered chips and guacamole which was spot on. Had the Steak Elote Quesadilla - and wow! Too much for one person but really loved this dish. Will be back.

Cute little restaurant with a small eclectic menu. We arrived during happy hour so each of us had a half price margarita (which were very tart, a bit too much lime dominant), chips & salsa and chips & guacamole for starters. The homemade chips were very good. My wife had the tortilla soup which was good but too spicy for her. I had the pollo lindo taco which was one of the best tacos I've ever eaten. Wonderful flavors with a pineapple pico that blended perfectly. Such a depth of flavor, delicious. Overall they need to work on their margarita mix and offer different heat levels for the more delicate palates.

Omg best place for Mexican food from the three dip and chips appetizers to the chicken enchiladas and of course the mango margaritas. The place is so cool inside as well. Marlee was amazing with her service and personality. Will be back soon. HT from Meridian

Wonderful. Simply wonderful. Everything on the menu is so good and they have the best specials and happy hour. Can't recommend enough. Prices are really reasonable.

Festive decor with lots of TV's throughout the dining room. Tiny bar in the corner. Service was great. Caring and quick. Chips and salsa/bean dip were ok. A quick Yelp review showed that Eliza's had recently opened. It wasn't in the core of old downtown, so it's a little tough to find. It's next to a Hispanic grocery. You walk in and go to the counter to order. The menu is perfect. There aren't a million things to go through. We got some guacamole and chips, tacos, a torta and the molcajete. I got a medium horchata to drink. We found a place to sit and a cute little fella came to deliver our chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh, and very clean tasting. I enjoyed it a lot. After a while the guacamole came out with chips... it was a hit. I little on the spicy side, but it was fresh, no doubt. While we waited, a mariachi singer came in and sang... and boy did he sing. He was fantastic. We absolutely loved the intimate concert. It took a while, but our food came. My wife had the tacos and loved them. The torta, for the 13 yr old, was great his only complaint was it was a little too toasted. The meat was fantastic. The food was legit. If you've never had a molcajete, it's an experience. The thing is a flaming hot stone bowl,(no touchy, it's hot,) filled to the brim with shrimp, strips of grilled chicken, Carne Asada, cactus leaf, cheese, onions, and some jalapeno strips. They bring it to you hot as can be in a boiling stew of a tangy green sauce. It's not cheap, but it could easily feed 2-3... The horchata was great. I enjoyed it, it was totally refreshing. The food came and so did the songs, BTW, if the guy we heard tonight is singing, you need to show up. He's seriously awesome. They were so polite and I really enjoyed it. Here are the things I took a star off for. 1. As sweet as the waitress was, she got distracted a few times, and could have paid a little more attention. I am gonna chalk this up to inexperience. We needed a chops refill a few times, and there were only two tables filled tonight. 2. It was pricey... but worth it. 3. This is NOT fast food. Plan on a long wait. Understand though, that you are getting some made to order food, not just a scoop of something out of a bucket. There were a lot of people making food, so it was weird to have it take that long... the singer made it ok.. because he was fun to listen to. 4. They could serve and refill water, instead of selling water . The kids wiped out their water bottle in minutes. All in all, the things they can improve on didn't impact the quality of the food. It was REALLY good. We will be back... I think that they will continually get better and faster. With the quality of the food, I'm shocked this place wasn't packed.

Service has always been great every single time we've been in. Everyone we've interacted with has been welcoming and attentive. That alone says a lot, in my opinion. We've tried a number of things on the menu over the past few months. My personal favorites are the carne asada and the Pescado Zarandeado. If you're a seafood lover like me, do yourself a favor and order the Del Mar molcajete. It is loaded to the brim and worth every penny of the market price. Now...dessert. The red velvet flan is delicious. But, I'll be honest, it's a little small for the price tag. The churros are the better deal and just as satisfying. Either way, don't skip dessert. My husband orders the strawberry horchata every single time we go. If you're looking for something refreshing, that's probably your answer. The vibes are great and so is the food! More than likely not. Guacamole: such small quantity but the molcajete makes it deceiving in thinking there is more. The onions and tomatoes need to be sliced a lot smaller. Felt like we were literally bitting mostly that and not getting the true taste of the guac. Also, a hint of lemon would have taken it to another level of delicious (but that's personal preference). Queso fundido con chorizo: we paid an extra $2 for literally specks of chorizo....that didn't taste much like chorizo. A little annoyed about that. The queso...not sure what type of cheese that was but it wasn't what is traditionally used. It was so watery. It was actually weird. Wouldn't order this. Molcajete: very reasonably served. Comes with a side of rice and beans. Beans tasted out of a can and the rice...I've had better. The meats served in the molcajete were good. Presentation was very nice for this plate. Chile relleno: absolutely oily. Dripping in oil actually. My mom needed a few napkins to drain the oil out of it. Not a mom favorite. Camarones à la diabla: not spicy enough to call them this. The serving size was good. Shrimp tastes good but again, nothing spicy about them. Hope this review helps when ordering.
