I tried Los Dos Maria in Redding after a lot of people recommended their burritos. I ordered two burritos and asked for a lot of jalapeños and hot sauce, but both burritos ended up being pretty mild and didn't have much jalapeño. Between the two, the carne asada burrito had better flavor than the pulled pork. The pulled pork burrito had way more beans than meat, which was a little disappointing. On the positive side, the restaurant was very clean, and the staff was friendly and nice. Overall, it wasn't bad, but it didn't live up to the hype for me. I'd give it a 3 out of 5. read more

I'm not sure if it was Maria who served us but she was incredibly sweet and the food came out really fast. As a Mexican who grew up in Southern California it's really hard to find quality mexican food up here but they surpassed my expectations. I truly regret spending ~$10 on a "Chile verde burrito" that literally just taste like a bean burrito with a small handful of pieces of meat. Yesterday we ordered two dozen tamales for the 24 hrs notice. We picked them up today still piping hot. They are delicious the best tamales we've had in a very very long time. After trying the salsa we ordered, we knew we'd enjoy the meal. Wow! We ordered 150 breakfast burritos for a celebration of life event and everyone loved them! Maria and her husband cook everything and customized the burritos to our liking, including individually packing the burritos and salsa for all! The burritos were amazing but also the salsa was so good we had people asking all day where was it from? Just had the fish taco combo special and chile rellano burrito today and they were delicious and gave me my authentic burrito and fish taco fix. The fish was grilled perfectly and taste was fresh. The taco was more authentic style, so it wasn't loaded with cabbage with dressing and mango salsa or some trendy shit like that (which I do enjoy but it's really hard to beat a perfectly done authentic fish taco). Only $5.25 for 2 tacos and rice and bean combo. Chile Rellano burrito was very tasty as well. Chile rellanos are traditionally use very mild peppers and are not spicy. This one had a very good, fresh flavo and was battered, fried and stuffed with cheese and stuffed in the burrito. It was delicious. Who can make a good Chile Rellano burrito? Las Dos Marias, amigo. I believe these are the "Dos Marias" that are being referred to in the name of said establishment... just a wild guess, could be wrong. How did I not know this place exists? I haven't been here since it was a satellite La Cabana location so, after seeing that it got the endorsement of one Buzz F., I decided to give it a try. I had the carne asada tacos and they were some of the best I've had locally. The meat is nice and tender and seasoned just right. I'll add my two cents here about the lack of patronage. I did a "drive by" and when I saw no customers, I almost chickened out. I hate being the only one in a restaurant. But I screwed up my courage and took the plunge. Boy, am I glad I did! PROS: Delicious food. We arrived just as they'd opened, and we were the only people there besides the drive-thru customers. The chips and salsa are $1 each, but for $2 you get salsa that is very reminiscent of Chevy's salsa (YUM) and fresh tortilla chips. I ordered the shrimp burrito with no guac or salsa because I don't like onions. My mom ordered the steak tacos which reminded me of street tacos atop two soft corn tortillas, very tasty. My girls both had simple cheese quesadillas with rice and beans. I like that they used a white cheese instead of orange cheddar, they were mild and delicious. I may sound like a broken record since every review seems to echo the same sentiment, but the staff is SO friendly and accommodating. $26 total for four people. CONS: I asked for no guacamole or salsa because I don't like onions (yes, I ate the salsa, but I really just eat the juice, not the chunks). I have to assume the shrimp has been pre-marinated in something with onions, because they were still present in my burrito. What can I say, I'm a Coca-Cola drinker. 2. Chips and salsa. Chips were ok, salsa was great, however charging for salsa is just tacky. Most places have salsa bars where you can get as much as you want and it's free. This place charges $.99 for salsa refills. 3. Drinks. Menu says homemade iced tea. It should say fresh brewed Lipton. I LOVE Dos Maria's! I can't get enough! I spent a few months in high school living in San Cristobal, Chiapas (southern Mexico) and I can honestly say that is is the most authentic tasting Mexican food I have had the pleasure of eating in the states. My absolute favorite are their chicken flautas, chile verde burrito, and chicken tostada salad. The staff are so lovely and sweet.
