I only have good things to say. The staff are friendly and welcoming as you walk in. What I ordered was the California burrito, which comes with fries, rice, beans and meat. I got asada, but added two eggs and guacamole in the burrito, with cilantro and onions for added crispness and flavor. I asked for the tortilla to be crispy on the outside, but wish the fries were crispier. It was $15 for everything, which is a damn good deal, considering the size of the burrito. I'm not sure about the price of a regular Cali burrito, but what I ordered was $15. She even skipped the tip portion (I tipped in cash instead). read more

Lovely people, good food, generous portions. Ruth is so warm and friendly. When she learned we were from Los Angeles, she suggested a restaurant in So Cal serving delicious dishes from her native Guatemala. Yay! More food to try - LIVE that for me! lol Hubby's steak quesadilla was HUUUGE and delicious. I was craving carne asada, but not typically made, so Ruth asked the chef to layer it on top of potatoes with cheese and a side of ranch dressing. Great! She also brought us comp chips and two kinds of house made salsa. Very nice. If I'm being totally honest, I was really looking forward to a margarita with my dinner, and found the picture of a beautiful one on the menu to be just a picture. Started with standard chips and salsa. The salsa is very watery, but full of flavor. Definitely not from a can. So good I asked for a second container. I chose the veggie tacos that come with corn tortilla since I have to eat gluten free. The tacos were decent, but I'd be interested in trying other dishes too. This dish comes with refried beans that do not contain lard, so they're veg friendly. The rice was the best tasting rice I've had from a Mexican restaurant. My friend agreed. She ordered veggie enchiladas. She couldn't decide between red or green sauce, so she ordered one of each. The cooks we're very open to this. She prefers mild sauces and ended up preferring the green sauce made of tomatillo. We were interested in dessert, but sadly they don't have any on the menu. How the hell does this place have 4.5 stars? Did I walk in on a really bad day? Ordered one chili relleno and one shrimp taco. $17! How do you charge $7 for one street taco? I immediately balked at the prices but figured it must be worth it with all the great reviews. Most definitely was not. Went here with a group of friends. We all got different dishes (I got their sope with carnitas, which I LOVED). Everyone enjoyed their food, but I think I liked mine more than everyone else. We did think their salsa was different than salsas we are used to. I liked it, but I don't think all my friends did. A year ago, we moved from San Diego to Oregon. Other than our son, we miss the food from our favorite restaurants, especially Mexican food. So on a trip back to SD, we made sure to eat at our fav spots. On our way back up the state, after an 11 hour drive, we needed one last fix of Mexican food in CA before leaving the state. I found this place on Yelp, and so glad we ate here! It is a hidden (literally) gem located behind a gas station. Easy to just drive on by, but don't miss it. We got chips & salsa right away. We had the carnitas quesadilla and the carne asada tacos w/ rice and beans. All was delicious! Very generous portions. Very good rice & beans. We ate more than we should have, but it was very satisfying. As a bonus, the owners are a super friendly, lovely couple and their kids are adorable. Give this place a try.
