Eating area outside of taco truck.
    Cesar A.

So I already should've known this taco spot all the way near Alviso wasn't going to be it but I had some hope since I did not see a bad rating. 1. Customer Service- Staff seemed low. They weren't unfriendly but I didn't sense any good energy or upbeatness. Also, it would be a good gesture to ask what sauce you want on your food if you say you want everything on it like red or green not just put whatever they want. I did appreciate them adding a piece of lemon rabanos and onion at least. 2. Food- Order 1- 3 Tacos de cabeza. Super mid. The meat wasn't the best quality. 3/10 compared to other favorite spots in san jose. Order 2- 1 "super taco" so this is on a bigger tortilla and has sour cream cheese and apparently lettuce? The way it looks is the way it tasted. It was pretty bad only 1/10 since it was edible. I expected something like what the super taqueria has a well done taco with high quality meat, beans, melted cheese, avocado. The one here was like a white washed taco like why don't they even melt the cheese? 3. Eating area is windy cold and there was like an HVAC fan unit next to the tables that was loud as hell too. This is just some feedback in case the owners want to step their game up and provide actual quality food and ambience. Would not recommend if you expect traditional mexican tacos. I think since the location is near alviso the target audience is for those that don't know about mexican food whatsoever.

I was craving some tacos, and the closest and cheapest one we could find was this place. I think this place was pretty good for the price, but it's a pretty sketchy-looking location if you come at night. We came here around 7:15pm for dinner on Thursday. I saw that the food truck was a little north of Top Golf beforehand, and I was already thinking about how people don't really go around that area. The streets have little to no lighting, but luckily the food truck was reasonably lit so we were able to spot it...in a large, empty, and dark parking lot. We ordered 9 regular tacos with a variety of asada (beef), cabeza (beef cheek), pastor (BBQ pork), pollo asado (grilled chicken), and carnitas (pork). There was a really cute fairy-light set-up in the back corner next to the truck with tables and seats. It felt safe and comforting as opposed to the rest of the parking lot, and we planned to eat there. However, as we were waiting for food, some guy came up and sat down saying how he wished he could have some tacos. Then he asked if we could buy him some tacos. My bf and I were both on edge so we walked away and decided to take the tacos back home. These tacos were pretty good at $2.75 per taco. That's relatively cheap compared to the $3 to $4 at other places. Presentation-wise, these tacos were plated beautifully, but the overlap between the tacos caused a bit of sogginess. They had also put the sauces onto the tacos instead of packing them separately which didn't help. Honestly, it's hard for me to tell certain tacos apart when they're all on one plate, but carne and cabeza are always my standouts. Cabeza especially is a little more fatty and rich. I will note that the carnitas was my least favorite. The meat wasn't chopped up as small and it was pretty dry as well. Another thing is that the food was a bit on the colder side despite being wrapped in foil and driving 5 minutes back home. Regardless, it's still a decent place. I'd just recommend you go during the day if they park up towards Top Golf.

Cheap eats series: We stopped by for lunch as it was super close to Top Golf. The prices are cheap--haven't seen tacos for less than $3 in a while! I got 2 asada and 1 pastor taco at $2.35 each. The sauce it comes with has a small kick of spice to it, but not too intense. Service was quick and the staff taking our orders was kind. In addition, seating space under a canopy was available on the side of the taco truck. Definitely will come here again! We paid with cash. Note: there was a small market right by the taco truck where we grabbed Jarritos and other snacks from!

Carne asada tacos w/ salsa verde.

Forever a fan of El Taco de Oro. My husband and the majority of my close friends are all from Alviso - so I have the pleasure of saying I've been a regular here for more than two decades. I've seen many changes happen during that time. And while I thoroughly enjoyed the quality and price of their tacos back then - they're still good enough to always swing by and grab some when I'm in town. I love their carne asada tacos con salsa verde. I'm also a big fan of their enchiladas verdes. Their salsa that comes with chips while you wait for your food in the restaurant is also very good. Not too spicy but has a nice kick to it. Their staff is always friendly and the restaurant always has good vibes, which I appreciate. I hope they'll be able to stick around with all the changes happening in town and around the area to make everything more upscale, my hopes is it'll bring them more business than ever. Like I said, I'm a forever fan and will continue to give them business for as long as they're open! Hope you all have a spec-taco-ular day!

El Taco de Oro is parked every day in the corner of a 76 station on Calaveras Blvd. parking can be chore. there are 3 on the lot. offerings: the usual menu. tax included in pricing. eats: lengua (3), al pastor (2.75) -garnished with lime squeeze, radishes, jalepeno slices. not much salsa. -al pastor was prefried, not carved off the spit. -lengua was tender bits of tongue, fresh but not very tasty. *fast, friendly service, more juiciness would have been nice. 3.5 stars.

Why El Taco De Oro has a food truck right next to its restaurant is beyond me... but hey they make it work. The food truck shares the same address as Mi Jalisco Market. Then a few steps away is ETDO's more traditional restaurant/ building. There is a little bit of outdoor seating available, as well as a medium sized parking lot that serves both the restaurant and food truck. The restaurant is only open til lunch time, while the food truck is open later, supposedly til evening (actual hours unclear, since they don't really follow what's posted online... I live nearby that's how I know). The restaurant offers a more extensive menu than the food truck, but otherwise the quality of food is pretty much the same. El Taco De Oro also has other food trucks occasionally situated in different areas of Santa Clara and Milpitas, but this is their main location in Alviso/ north SJ. I've been to both restaurant and food truck several times, and have been happy with the service and quality of food, except for my most recent visit to the food truck. I ordered cabeza tacos and the service was surprisingly slow and seemingly lacking in effort, especially for there being no other customers at the time on a late Sunday afternoon. On top of that, the tacos didn't seem as fresh as usual, specifically the meat. I'm used to getting tacos and quesadillas served piping hot from this establishment, and on this day, I was disappointed. Because I place a lot of value on the consistency of service and quality, I knocked off a star. Otherwise El Taco De Oro is comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the south bay -- nothing too outstanding, but decent quality, flavor, and portions (on most days at least).

Good food very similar to San Diego style. They have the the classic spices and flavors of a taqueria. Reasonable prices too. They have food trucks around so give them a try.

Oooh these tacos are bomb! *drools* It's a little way out there but if you're taking a stroll or biking at Alviso County Park then you must stop by here afterwards (they open 9am -ish so you can have tacos or a burrito for breakfast). You deserve some good tacos after that workout ;) Plus they have a few food trucks but I'm not too sure where the trucks are located. I only been here for their tacos and it's soo good! Variety of meat options: asada, buche, al pastor, and more. They also have corn tortilla which makes it so much better! I also noticed a taco challenge (idk the rules) but if you're interested in a taco challenge then this is the place for you. Lol. It's currently pandemic days, but just FYI there's a nice large indoor dining area and some seats outside. So whenever it's safe to eat indoors again then make sure you visit. For now, you can stop by and order to-go to eat in your car or track down one of their food trucks to support :) Definitely a hidden gem and worth traveling the distance to try. Enjoy!

WHY I WENT HERE: - YEARS ago, a friend of mine recommended this place to me as one of her favorite taco spots - a few months ago my siblings and I tried to do a late night mission to get tacos here after checking Yelp and seeing their hours of operation, but were rudely shooed away as being closed (when according to Yelp, they were open for another hour or two -_-) - it took me a while to finally give it a try, and the opportunity presented itself so I gave it a second chance THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located off N 1st St and Michigan Ave - food truck located outside of a brick and mortar restaurant I believe? - also next door to another brick and mortar El Taco de Oro THE MENU: - taco regular - super taco - burrito regular - super burrito - quesadilla con carne - quesadilla regular - torta - super torta - meat options: asada (beef), cabeza (beef cheek), pastor (BBQ pork), pollo asado (grilled chicken), carnitas (pork), tripas (tripe), lengua (beef tongue) WHAT I ORDERED: - taco regular - one of each meat THE TASTE: - the only decent ones IMHO were the cabeza and lengua tacos, and it was just because they were tender - all the meat didn't have any distinct/unique flavor; just kinda felt like it was boiled plain with either the salsa rojo or the salsa verde thrown on top CUSTOMER SERVICE: - fine, but nothing spectacular

Burrito size is almost the size of paper plates width

I had to look it up, but Oro in Spanish means: Gold I have only been to the food truck a couple of times. It is parked at the 76 gas Station on W. Calaveras Ave and Abbott Avenue. It is literally near the on ramp to 880 North. Reading other reviews, it sounds like there was a restaurant spot in Alviso, but it's now closed. I have only ordered a few staple items and they have all been very good. I have ordered super taco, regular tacos and a burrito. All the meats are seasoned well. the trick with the tacos is that you eat it as soon as possible or the meet will dry out or corn tortillas will crack, no matter what brand is used. The burrito is a good size and was tightly rolled and the ingredients were distributed well. I can say I enjoyed al pastor, carne asada and chicken. I have asked if they have birria de res meat and was told they do not have Birria on the menu. (-1 star) Even though it's at a gas station, parking can be limited, especially if gas station customers are leaving cars for repair. So just be mindful parking can be a problem, but all the times I've been there, parking was available. Definitely try to support a little gold (actually it's a bright yellow) truck based at 76 gas Station.

2 Carne Asada and 2 AL Pastor tacos!
    Carlos A.

Okay! So I never been in the restaurant nor have I tried food from their yellow taco truck but have eaten at their white taco truck! Is there a difference? I don't know because like I said I've only eaten at the white truck but heard not too many good things about the yellow truck! So my review isn't based on a comparison but on my recent visits! I came here a few days ago and had grabbed 4 tacos, 2 Carne Asada and 2 AL Pastor and when I say they were good that's not an understatement. They were impressive and were very flavorful. I got mine fully dressed and wouldn't want them any other way. I was thrown back by the pickled jalapeños and not getting them grilled. But you know what...it worked! It had a nice vinegar twang that was a good replacement for having to add salt. The tacos were greasy as all heck, the only way tacos should be. After coming here a couple times I came back for a Carne Asada burrito and it wasn't a fluke as the burrito was equally as impressive as the tacos. The burrito was decent sized and wasn't stuffed with a lot of rice like you get from other taco trucks or brick and mortars! The only thing is why don't they inquire about being at Earthquake games or other off the grid events. This place is phenomenal and needs to be thrown out there for the masses to enjoy. Do I recommend this place? Absofrigginlutely!

    Great tacos. Great price
    Brian B.

Oh man! Great price and spicy sauce with the perfect level of hot red pepper on every taco. Since I discovered this food truck in Alviso, I've been making this place my regular stop off on my bike tours out onto the sloughs. Yes! My choice is usually the Super Taco . Cheap and totally tasty . No frills here. Just good food. You sit under an overhang in a parking lot in front of a general store where you can buy a drink. A great place to get a quick snack or a meal. Cash only!

We ordered through DoorDash for pickup, and everything was ready right at the time requested. I even received a notification when the order was ready, which made pickup easy. One thing to note is that the restaurant is tucked away in the back of the plaza. The arrow on the sign in the front actually threw us off, and we ended up walking all around the building, past the pizza place and around the corner before finding it. It's located across from Star Aquatics and Fitness. When we walked in, there was a designated ordering area near the entrance. A couple was already being helped, but another employee quickly came over to assist us. I told her we were picking up a DoorDash order, and after asking for my name, she also asked how much salsa we wanted and generously gave us two containers of each variety. For food, I ordered the appetizer flautas and a birria taco. The flautas came with a salad-like accompaniment. The two flautas were cut in half and were smaller than I expected, but they were tasty and nicely prepared. The birria taco was packed with meat, which I appreciated, although I was hoping the meat would be a little juicier. The hot sauces were excellent, though, and definitely elevated the taco. The ladies seemed to enjoy their food as well, and there weren't any complaints from the group. It's always nice when everyone can find something they like. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm glad we gave this place a try. Next time I'd love to come back and try the nachos or some of their other menu items.

A very disappointing first impression before we even stepped foot inside the restaurant. Once seated, we ordered drinks and experienced the buffet, but service after that was almost nonexistent. The entire experience felt rushed, as if we were no longer welcome because we ended up being among the last guests there -- something that could have easily been avoided had we been seated when we were supposed to. What makes this even more upsetting is the cost. Our bill was over $630 before gratuity and additional tip. For that price, I expected attentive service and a memorable Mother's Day experience, not to feel forgotten and rushed out. I've honestly received far better service at restaurants costing a fraction of the price. The only thing I truly enjoyed were the waffles, but even then, I can easily find restaurants with similar or better food quality and significantly better service. Will I return? No. Would I recommend coming here for holidays or special occasions? Absolutely not. There are many restaurants in the area that provide far better food, service, and overall value for a fraction of this cost. Unfortunately, Pedro's was not one of them. Pedro's, do better. Customers should never feel overlooked, rushed, or exploited -- especially on occasions meant to celebrate family and mothers.
