Wanted to like this place as I have been looking for a Mexican restaurant with good flavorful beans and rice and this place was not it. Enchilada was good, taco was fine salsa was good and showered the broken chips albeit very small portion. The bean and beef burrito lacked any flavor. So a burrito combo and taco enchiladas combo and one root beer and $55 later plenty of leftovers since the food really wasn't very good. Took about ten minutes to get the check back after I handed my CC. Place wasn't that busy. Service was ok at best. No drink refill. Has to be better options out there. Will go back to Taxco in Pedro. read more

4.5 out of 5 stars based on my recent visit to Las Palmas Cafe! Their carnitas are exactly what carnitas should taste like. Super tender, not overcooked or too crispy, and not too oily either. I haven't had carnitas this good in a while. The green sauce was tangy and not spicy--perfect to go with the meat. The beans are runny but in a good way. Even the tortillas were good. Instead of the regular soup or salad options, I asked to upgrade to menudo for an extra $1.99, and it was worth it. Not only was it a bigger size than the other soups, but it was hot and came with all the fixings (cilantro/onion/lemon/oregano/chili flakes). Definitely a solid menudo as its own dish. For the plate, soup upgrade, and refillable soda, the total was $30. Slightly pricey but these prices are becoming the norm. I went for lunch on a Thursday since it is very local, right on the corner of Sepulveda and Avalon in Carson. There were surprisingly a decent amount of customers filling up 1/3 of the restaurant. My family and I hadn't been here in a while so we finally stopped by! It did not disappoint! Fortunately, we found parking. The food was really good! Everything we got we enjoyed. The agua de Jamaica has been one of my favorites so far. Our server was polite and quick. She was friendly, too. Loved the ambiance! They had music playing and you're able to connect to the juke box via an app ($6) and play the music you want. Definitely will be back! read more

I have lived down the street from here for 13 years and recently returned to try the place out, again. My PREVIOUS visit, 5 years ago, I did not like. The food was overly seasoned with salt. Everything my wife and I ordered was salty. THIS visit about 1 week ago on a Saturday around 3pm was WAY better. I ordered chicken Flautas. The rice and beans were good. The flautas were good. Service was great too. I am happy we can come back to a local spot that people hold dear. I remember coming here with my parents way back and they loved it. Was one of their fav places. When I tasted the homemade chips and salsa I knew this place was legit. The tacos dorados were so good and they have great guacamole. I will for sure be back. The service was fantastic. Attentive and super nice staff. My uncle uses a walker and there was ample space for him to comfortably get to the table...they have booths! There is parking behind the restaurant. Every time I go home to visit family in Cali, this is a must. Their food is delicious and you get so much of it, that you will definitely need a doggie bag. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. My coworker suggested this spot for dinner for us to meet at. From the outside it doesn't seem appealing, but I was pleasantly surprised. They are adding an outdoor patio area and it's looking nice. There is parking in the back and on the street. Service was good, warm welcome. I ordered the combination #19 which includes the 2 tacos dorados with your choice of meat, rice and beans and a salad. I ordered chicken tacos The chicken was tender and juicy, tacos crunchy, everything was good. My coworker ordered the jumbo shrimp platter. It was drool worthy! He said it was really good as well. I am giving them a 4 because it took a little long with the check. A bonus was they brought my coworker an ice cream with a candle and sang to him. Really grateful for their hospitality. The food was so delicious. I love the homemade chips and salsa. The chips are homemade and the salsa nas the best flavor. I othered thr chicken enchilada and chicken hard taco plate. I'm very picky with Mexican food since my grandparents wines a Mexican restaurant but I have to say everything was so good I wanted to lick the plate lol. I will definitely be coming back soon. Went there for lunch. Did not go well. I ordered the wet burrito with red sauce. OK I asked the waitress for a chicken wet burrito and there was meat in the sauce. Did not like it since I don't eat red meat. She mentioned nothing to the fact of meat being in the sauce. Then I started to eat it anyhow rather than make her take it back. Then I would have inconvenienced both of us. Well I find a good sized bone and took it out and set it near the plate. She saw it and apologized. Then the bill comes and we get charged the $2.50 for red sauce. I have had food in other Mexican restaurants and never had a fee for sauce before. This is news to me. We are walking out after paying and notice food all over the carpet as well as uncleaned tables. The general appearance was not a clean one and I would not feel comfortable going back. read more

Had been wanting to try this place for years and finally did yesterday. It's okay - Wednesday evening 6pm, not busy plenty of seating options. The food was good, I had shrimp tacos and they were alright especially for $22. I did think it was pricey, our total was $115 and it was just my husband, three kids and I but only one of my kids got a quesadilla - the others just had fries and one side of rice. The service was okay too, the waitress was very short, never once smiled and didn't bring the basics like spoons - I had to ask her for some. She seemed "tired" I guess you can say. Their beans are flat-tasting. In other words, there isn't any flavor. They aren't refried nor is there any salt or bacon. If you order a salad, make sure that you ask them to drain the water out of it because it will be full of water and if you try to put your salad dressing on it, the water will ruin the dressing. Mexican food should be a little spicy by the nature of the food. I have to say that Del taco or Taco Bell has spicier hot sauce than any meal that Las Palmas has on their menu. Me and my wife noticed positive reviews from the place and as locals from carson we finally tried it. Im giving it the review because maybe I ordered something incorrect but as an authentic restaurant i think it should be easy to order what an authentic place offers. We ordered the posole, the tenders with fries and 2 7 mares soup(i hope and would appreciate if i was told this is not mexican) but all the food was flavorless. We got the 7 mares and it looked like the caldo cane from a caldo de res with after thoughts of adding seafood to make it 7 mares. I got all ingredients of a caldo de res(mexican beef soup) in it and was wondering why but tried it either way. At 22 bucks for a bowl i can't complain when its 7mares but this wasn't what i ordered. Kids fries was out of a bag bcus ive tasted frozen fries from a restaurant b4. Tenders flavorless. Posole also not good. Maybe i came on a wrong day or ordered wrong things. If thats the case maybe the menu should be limited to what people like so you can only order whats good. I have observed many people who appear to be regulars that are greeted kindly. The family atmosphere in the establishment makes the food and the company all that more appealing. One of our go to places for authentic Mexican food, I seriously LOVE Mexican food so much, the more authentic the better! This place has that old fashioned Mexican restaurant vibe, small but cozy. Menu is huge, they have everything, even breakfast. Homemade chips and salsa are so fresh and yummy, almost as good as I had in Cancun! I love deep fried whole tilapia fish, sister loves Mexican chicken soup, cheese enchiladas are pretty decent too. The rice, beans and fries are so delicious, I usually order extra sides of those, just can't get enough of them! The beer selections are decent, recently I have started to try different kinds of Mexican beer, usually I just drink Corona extra. Food portions are huge, prices are more than fair. Ok so I was jonesing for cheese n chips and the only place between home and where I was at was las Palmas Cafe So I looked at the menu and cheese n chips are like $9 but it says with chicken so I ask ok how much without chicken she said it's $9 the menu is wrong ( uhh well that's crap). Their homemade chips and salsa is bomb. We had the breakfast with 2 eggs bacon and pancakes and im they came out perfect except the bacon could have been crispier but that's just my taste. This place is really close to home and being that the service was good I'll consider coming back. The food was at its best "okay". I ate the Steak Guisado and the meat was good but the sauce was not the greatest. It wasn't the taste I was chasing as it wasn't authentic and was a bit concentrated, it came w rice and beans. The beans were okay but better than the rice, the rice had that non authentic typical Mexican restaurant style taste to it but tastier than some others I've had. My husband ate their chicken fajitas and he did enjoy them and they looked mighty tasty. My 5 year old had the crunchy chicken taco and he really wasn't into it but he at least ate half. The albondiguilla soup is gross--never again. The chips and salsa were good , the chips tasted as if they were freshly made, definitely do recommend giving them a try --after all they're complementary. Overpriced and has tasted average lately. Paid $8 for guacamole that was less than 1/4 of an avocado. No tomatoes, onions or jalapeño. Just smashed avocado portions are small, prices are high. $17 for fatty carnitas. Menu prices do not match prices on your bill. read more

We support family-owned places like these. My dad used to bring my sisters and I in our younger years and now that I have my kids I come here with my family. Las Palmas Café has become one of the favorites for my kids' generation. During COVID we experienced the outdoor seating and it is nice with shade and a relaxing atmosphere. Since it does get busy especially during dinner time and weekends their might be a small wait time on the food but it's worth the wait because I have been loving their shredded beef tacos dorados for years!! Sometimes I just order those dorados beef tacos a la carte and their salad with house dressing is the best!! The owner and employees/ waitresses always greet us and it is a good feeling to be acknowledged and remembered as a regular customer with my family.
