Man, La Capilla you're one of the family spots we all grew up going to with our families for dinner. Birthdays always included flan, and being called Panchito. However I think what kept everyone there was the pitchers of margaritas, and the specials on the wall to the left when you walked in. My dad lived for those. First time dining at this restaurant with two friends after work. It's an old town Torrance and there's free street parking. We started with classic margaritas which I somehow forgot to take a picture of. They were tasty- no skimping on the alcohol here. I ordered the chimichanga and it had loads of chicken with guacamole, and it's usually served with sour cream, but I decided to skip that part. My friends both enjoy their meals and have leftovers to take home. Really good portion sizes for the price. Service was excellent, and it was certainly a family, friendly vibe. La Capilla has been a reliable choice for a decent Mexican dinner for many years in Old Torrance. I have been coming here since 2006. The staff has changed but the quality of food hasn't changed much. My favorite dishes are the three item combo, beef hard shell taco, chicken enchilada and a chili relleno or the camerones a la diabla or the al mojo de ajo and a blended mango margarita or a Modelo Negra. La Capilla has been our family go to since my girls were babies 40 years ago. Some of the servers still work there, some still recognize me. Our friends and family have met at La Capilla since the 80s. I always order the same thing shredded beef taco a la carte with a side of guacamole with Orange Fanta. That's it! It may not be the best around, but it's our best. It's better than any Mexican place near where we live in Seattle. So when we get a chance we tell friends to meet us there when we are in town. Everything is always fresh. From the chips and salsa they place in front of you, to the dishes you get after craving down the chips and pretty much drinking the salsa. The guacamole is more my choice, it's always made right for me. I have lived in Torrance for over 20 years and when I was a kid, people would rave about La Capilla. So one night I decided to try it with my husband. We were sorely disappointed. He ordered a wet burrito. His reaction was it was okay. That's his way of saying it was edible. I ordered a fish taco and a shrimp taco a la carte. The fish taco was so soggy I couldn't pick up the taco, it kept falling apart. Absolutely no flavor or salsa or anything on it. So it begs the question why was it soggy? The fish was off and it look like it had been boiled instead of grilled. The shrimp taco also contained fish that were boiled not grilled or pan fried, less soggy because shrimp doesn't retain water like white fish does. Yet again zero flavor, sauce, salsa or anything. I had to put the table salsa on it to get any flavor. Worst of all, I am 99% confident I got food poisoning. Service was okay. People were nice but food was a huge disappointment. read more

However, when we did ask the lady looked annoyed while walking us to the table. The table that the lady had taken us to was already occupied by an old man in walker. The lady and another worker then proceeded to rush the old man out of his seat and move his food from the table to another.While he was being moved to another table the male worker then spilled the man's drink on him and proceeded to yell at him for not moving fast enough. I like this place a lot. No. I love this place. My wife takes me there for my birthday even though Mexican food is not her favorite. All I can say, is it reminds me of my childhood growing up in California. Big leather booths, subdued lighting, refried beans cooked in lard, deadly potent margaritas, double dishes of chips with spicy hot sauce, and a menu comprised of every main farm animal in North America.
