Grande Antigua Sandles Resort & Spa - Mediterranean Pool

We had a great time here at Grande Antigua Sandals Resort. We did go to another Sandals/ Beaches…read moreResort in 2021. That is why we picked another Sandals Resort. This Resort is the first one that was built off the island of Jamaica, where Sandals first began. It has an older vibe to it. Very easy to get around and get your bearings of where everything is. You also have a resort map to help guide you. In some things we were a bit disappointed, but overall we really had a great time. I would recommend you make your reservations to the Dinner Restaurants when you first get there. The early times fill up fast. You know when you are on vacation the time goes by faster than usual. The swim up bars are great place to talk with other vacationers. Everyone is having fun. If you are heading for the beach, make sure you get there early to get the beach cots. It can be challenging to find one as the day goes on. The beach towel stations run out of towels rather quickly, the supply chain is slow replenishing the stations. I would suggest, at the pools grab a few towels from there. It may save you a walk from station to station looking for towels. They have lots of activities every day. The evening has special themes like "White Night " you wear your white Linen clothes, Reggie Night, etc. Live bands play every night somewhere on the property. Your daily resort schedule will tell you where. Oh yes dress, no matter where you go reservations or not, flip flops are the standard foot wear. I brought a few other pair of shoes that I never wore. Oh yes it is only a 10 or 15 minute bus ride to Grande Antigua from the airport. Sandals provided transportation to and from the airport. No tipping at the resort, but I did tip the driver to and from the airport.

We recently returned from a stay at Sandals Grande Antigua (June 15-20, 2025) and while there are…read morecertainly aspects of the resort we appreciated, there were also several concerns that, cumulatively, made this experience fall short of the high standards we've come to expect from Sandals based on previous stays in Barbados and St. Lucia. Pros: - The setting is undeniably beautiful. The beaches are stunning, and the resort grounds are well-maintained. - We appreciated the convenience of unlimited food and drinks. - The inclusion of Robert Mondavi wines ensured a consistent baseline of wine quality, which we enjoyed. Cons: - The level of service and staff attitude was noticeably below what we've experienced at other Sandals locations. Many team members seemed disinterested, disengaged, and at times cold--lacking the warmth and hospitality we have associated with the Sandals brand. This was especially evident at check-out, where no one asked how our stay was nor offered a simple thank you. - The number of solicitations we encountered was excessive and disruptive. On one occasion, we were approached five times in two hours--making it very difficult to relax quietly or enjoy reading without interruption. These included both Sandals-affiliated promotions and third-party vendors. - The food overall was average, which was a disappointment given the typically exceptional culinary experiences we've had at other Sandals resorts. Most pastries tasted mass-produced, croissants resembled those from a grocery store value pack, and drinks were heavily watered down with ice. - A few bright spots in dining included Soy, Eleanor's, and Kimonos. In particular, Chef Ronello and server Chad at Kimonos created a memorable and special hibachi dinner for our anniversary after a group no-show left us with a private experience. Their warmth and attentiveness stood out as highlights of our trip. - The breakfast quality was consistently poor. Omelets were made using bare hands to grab ingredients, which raised hygiene concerns. French toast and eggs were cold every day. - Internet access was frustrating throughout the stay. Frequent disconnects, weak signals (especially in-room), and download speeds of only 1-2 Mbps are unacceptable, particularly at a resort of this caliber. We chose not to pay for the "premium" internet, though advertised speeds were still below modern expectations. In 2025, even economy hotel chains offer faster, more reliable WiFi. Frankly, airplane WiFi outperformed what we experienced at Sandals Antigua. We strongly believe that premium-level connectivity should be included in the standard offering, especially at the price point of this resort. Closing Remarks: While the location and a few exceptional staff members helped create some positive memories, the overall experience at Sandals Antigua did not meet the standards we associate with the Sandals brand. We contacted Sandals directly with our feedback and they responded with offered compensation in terms of points. However, we were surprised to receive a legal document in connection with this offer to release us from future reviews. We felt this formality was unnecessary, particularly as our intention was never been to escalate matters beyond constructive feedback. After careful consideration--and with great reluctance--we chose not to book a future Sandals trip during our stay, something we've always done in the past. This decision was not made lightly, but based on the decline in service quality and overall value, we did not feel confident committing to another visit at this time. Also, we found it highly unethical that Sandals Antigua would attempt to offer compensation -- in the form of points -- seemingly in exchange for our silence or retraction of an honest, unsatisfactory review (or future reviews). This behavior constituted as a form of bribery and only further reinforced the disappointing experience we had with the resort. I urge Sandals to reevaluate its approach to customer feedback and adopt a more ethical and respectful standard for resolving complaints.

FYI, I am a a Hilton diamond member since 2013 and never experienced such a bad customer service anywhere. I'm stocked in this hotel because of business guidelines and policies. I am writing this review since I felt disrespected and humiliated and now harassed. This main issue is main parking gate key doesn't open the gate in the evenings. It works fine in the morning and doesn't work in the evening. It is interesting it shows my room number in the screen as it shows in the morning but gate doesn't open. I reported this to the front dest and replaced the key 4 times. The gate doesn't open and there are cars behind. The only option is to hit the horn which the big problem happens. Security comes and shows attitude like it's my fault it doesn't work. I asked the security if he can help which I got more attitude. He has to use his fob key to open the gate. This story is ongoing every single day I go out. No issue when ai get inside. It gets worse with more attitude and I call it now harassment. I blame hotel management for hiring contractors with obvious lack of trainings of hospitality, skillsets and respect at their front line for their hotel. Is it really happening in the US in 2025? Anything I need to do to go in and out of hotel without receiving attitude? Is there anything I am doing wrong? I look forward for comments.

The front desk clerk was able to ove ride the previous reservation to get us in our room . Once in our room we were able to relax. Also neighborhood filled with restaurants and a shopping mall. Uber ride waa about 25 minutes , about 30 outside San Juan . Breakfast was eggs sausage and French toast with fruit and coffee tea. it was a deli located in lobby with desserts drinks and snacks if needed. Pool area was nice with ample seating , but it rained so we couldn't enjoy it. Overall great stay no issues and budget friendly

We stayed for one night in April…read more PRO: -convenient location in old SJ, easy to walk everywhere, great surrounding energy -beautiful hotel, with cute rooftop pool and a lovely AC'ed library you can read or work in -the evening social hour with complimentary rose was a welcome treat CON: -staff was professional and polite, but not warm or friendly (this is a minor point, and admittedly subjective) -shower floor was not guarded against water flowing out, so I ended up wasting two towels mopping up all the water that escaped after a 30 min shower (yes, I closed the door correctly) -our standard 2-bed room was on the smallish side. It's cozy for two guests, but will feel cramped if you have more people. -the worst part: breakfast service was SOOO SLOW!!! No one greeted us on arrival, so we weren't sure if we should sit ourselves (which we did after standing around for a bit). Once we sat down, it took about 10 min to be given our menus. Then it was another 30 min just to get our juice and coffee (and only after I got annoyed and asked). Then probably another 20 min for the food to arrive. Once we were done eating, we waited for 15 min for the check, then I just gave up and went to pay. There was no communication, and we were ignored for ages. They were NOT busy, and looking around, other diners were also waiting a lot and looking annoyed. We usually eat our breakfast in about 40min, but this dragged on for about an hour and a half. We were checking out and flying later that afternoon, so this was a stressful start to the day. I'm glad we stayed here once, as it's beautiful and feels like a big part of old SJ history; plus, you can't beat the location. But personally, I think there's better value at other places.
