I was looking forward to experiencing LaScala's in Dennis Port. My sister and I had a $15 gift certificate from restaurant.com and we were excited to try the food/atmosphere. Upon arriving, we went through the only designated entrance in the back of the building. When we walked in, we were completely ignored. We didn't understand the set up because when we walked in, the door took us to the bar area. We stood there for about 5 minutes, and the bartender confusingly welcomed us, saying, "Uh....can I help you?" We told him we were here for dinner, and he informed us we needed to walk through the bar to get to the dining room part of the restaurant. It was a very strange set up. While we were ordering dinner, the waitress (one of the owners) told us they no longer take restaurant.com gift certificates. She told us they would take half the price of the certificate off the meal, ($7.50 off), then she left to answer the phone. There is nothing on their website stating that they no longer take the gift certificates. It was ridiculous. We paid for that certificate and they should honor it. We ended up getting $10 off the meal, and we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the sausage and pasta, while my sister ordered the broccoli and sausage pasta. It didn't taste like they seasoned the food or anything, and it was pretty clear the sauce came from a can/sausage was frozen. I think this whole place needs a re-vamp. Bring in Restaurant Impossible's Robert Irvine and fix this restaurant. It has so much potential, it just needs to be acted upon. What a disappointment. read more

Service was very slow but we were not n a rush. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant? The food was not that great. The sausages that came with three of the meals that were ordered was very dry and it tasted like they cooked with jar garlic not fresh. The butter squares that came with the bread one of them was literally moldy?? We were never asked or had our drinks refilled once, but I guess one waitress can only do so much? read more

Avoid. Waited forever for our food, which was edible but not worth either the wait or the price. Yelp lists this place as good for kids - it isn't. The crowd when we were there is on on the much older side. We brought our kids and immediately regretted it. No one kicked us out, but there's barely a kids menu, the atmosphere is quiet, and we felt really out of place. This is not a spot for out of towners to visit with kids on vacation. read more

Saw the bad reviews, but recently saw that new management, and got a referral from the front desk at local motel, so we gave it a try! Unfortunately, it was a disappointment!!! On a Sunday night when other restaurants were completely booked with reservations, this one had 4 tables booked the entire night. We arrived on time for our reservation, waited 10 minutes to give a drink order and at the 1 hour 45 minute mark, still didn't have entree! When the server showed up, only saw her 3 times throughout, we asked what the wait was and she said "we got backed up" when I said there were only 4 tables occupied all evening she said "I'm not sure what happened but I think they're working on it" Manager was rude and offered no apology for bad service, and we paid and left at the 2-hour mark, entrees left behind! Lots of other choices in the area, with fresh food and attentive, friendly service -- don't waste time or money on this one! read more

The only reason this review has 3 stars is because I have not been to the Cape Cod location yet. I used to go to the La Scala in Worcester when this family owned it. I highly recommend the antipasto with the grilled Italian sausage. This is a family recipe that is very unique. Crazy as it sounds, I am not a cannoli fan. However, the way the woman makes the filling is VERY good. After we try the Dennis Port location, I will add to my review. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is fabulous! I had the Mussels and they were extra large and prepared in a wine,garlic butter sauce so good that I took the broth home with me and used it over pasta. Terrible service. My husband I went here for dinner on a Saturday night and were seated within five minutes. It was crowded, but not packed. There were still empty tables. After 15 minutes, no one came to our table. Not even a waitress or hostess came by to acknowledge us or even offered us water. We walked out and will never return!! The worst Cape eating experience we have ever had in our 20 years of going to Cape Cod! Went there last weekend, there wasn't a choice for salad dressing... and the salad was drenched in their dressing. We ordered Chicken Parmesan - it was processed chicken, not a real chicken breast; the eggplant like mush - even the roll was foul tasting.We were seated in the lounge area near the door and other people waiting were standing next to us and we could not even hear people at our table talking. The service attitude was "this is what we have and that is it" it was almost like they were doing us a favor by them being open. read more

Service is good , friendly and attentive.We we disappointed with 2 of our 3 meals.The Scrod was ample and delicious but the massive sized carrots were hard to cut up,the Swordfish was ample but it was over cooked and the pieces were way to big,the Scallops weren't cleaned properly,the tough vein knobs weren't removed and they were "gritty".My cocktail was very weak.Serving Ziti style pasta, as a side for every type of meal,didn't make sense.It was relaxing,but we won't be back next year.(annual vacation in Harwich). read more

We have been to LaScala many times before and loved it - food is great - BUT last night we got repremanded by the waitress for asking the server for menus. We sat in the lounge side, as usual, and saw they were really busy so we knew we had to wait however after about 20 minutes or so we asked the server for menus, figuring we would save time when they finally came over. After another 10 minutes or so, the older server came to us and said, "I have other people before you so you will JUST have to wait" and with attitude. It took a while to sink in so, all and all we sat 45 minutes with NO service and NO offer of drinks - and we saw she was freed up a bit. I have never been treated like this before and will never go back! read more

Purchased a $50 restaurant.com certificate for use with a $100 dinner with family. Forgot to present this at beginning of meal...my mistake. Meal was just o.k...nothing special. Waitress told us they no longer accept these coupons. Manager/owner came by to let us know there was a sign posted about this --- but it was on back of door which was secured such that sign was not visible. She finally agreed, begrudgingly, to give us $25 for the certificate - which was what we had paid for it. I told her we wouldn't come back to the restaurant, but she didn't seem to care. Noted on the menu that it was cash only - rather unusual for a dining establishment of this type in this area. Waitress then returned with the revised receipt....after deducting the $25 and adding a 20% tip....apparently because they accepted the certificate. Just very poor customer relations. read more

The second star is for the Antipasto. The four people in our party had different meals. None of us were pleased with our entree. The red sauce was the same on three of the meals. It was so bland, I believe the chef was English not Italian. The chicken parmigiana was tough and did not go home as a leftover. The sausage was a large rectangular patty. It was also flavorless. La Scala has been a go to for us for years as seasonal owners on Cape. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is simple and tasty. My husband loves the Antipasta with homemade sausage....the spicy fried calamari appetizers are wonderful! My favorites their eggplant rollatini which is only ever a special - get it if you can!! Otherwise the sausage and broccoli pasta gets my vote. read more

Despite some lukewarm reviews on Yelp and other places, we tried La Scala as it was a short walk from where we were staying. The meals (chicken/eggplant parm, seafood fra Diavlo, chicken with peppers and artichokes) were just okay. Our granddaughter had the pasta and meatball. The meatball was not too appetizing. Everyone at the table thought that the sauce came right out of a jar. Not too good. So the food wasn't great but probably not the worst we've ever had. On to the service - or lack thereof. Although the lounge had a fair amount of customers, there was just one group of 4 besides us in the dining room. Our waitress, Amy was quite pleasant. But I have a feeling that she hadn't worked there for long or was a fill in. The service was, quite simply, horrible. So long between whatever we requested and when it came. One member of our group ordered a beer shortly after the meal was served and it arrived after he'd finished. We won't go back. read more

We went here because it was within walking distance of all the resorts on Chase Ave, and we had a great dinner and enjoyed ourselves. The dining room is very cute and the Sinatra is a nice touch. Our first time to this restaurant as tourists. Was confused when we saw the La Scala sign in front of a cape style house. As we entered the "driveway" we noticed a side door with a "Closed" sign so we weren't sure they were actually opened but noticed cars in the back of the house which appeared to be the parking lot. Thinking it may be closed for a private party I decided to check to see if the door was open. It opened to a lounge area and I was told the restaurant was opened for business and to come on in. There were regulars sitting around the bar that were very friendly and I was told I would not be disappointed in the food so I told my family to come in. We were seated in the lounge area near the main dining room. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Being Italian I am a little picky about Italian food. I ordered the Chicken and eggplant Parm dinner which came with a side of penne and sauce. Hot bread was brought out for the table. I was very disappointed in the meal. The chicken was cooked well, but the sauce was very bland. I don't normally add salt to my meals, but I had to sprinkle some on for taste as well as add grated parm, which I don't normally use either. The eggplant was definitely laying around for awhile and I felt it was added to the chicken and nuked. Price was average. The meal came with a meatball but I didn't try it. read more
