Happy Mother's Day to me. My husband took us right around the corner of our home to Latin Chef. It was a nice treat to see they have Aguadito! I make the best at home but it's quite labor intensive so to see they had it on the special! Yay! I can have it and don't have to cook!!! Most places all in the US doesn't get this dish right but yay, I enjoyed it! The large was plenty for my hubby and I to have a cup for lunch then the rest for breakfast the next day. I added their green sauce to give it a kick. So don't worry about it being spicy. It won't be. But if you want spicy they have rocoto (the red) or verde (green) sauce. Add that to your dish to give it that little kick. I don't like extra sweet so I ice down their chicha. Most ppl don't so enjoy it how you like it. The gift is you can alter the items to your liking. All you need is right there. Salt. Ice. Sauces. The causa is so delightful. And the ceviche is creamy jugó yumminess. So fresh. And refreshing. These two are offered together too! Which is who we enjoy them. Perfect dish on any occasion. The sweet potato makes it perfect. Hard to find good Yuka but each time it's great here and the green sauce is my favorite to pair with this appetizer. My husband's too. Clean place, plenty of room. Peruvian music. Decor. I chose to try this restaurant after reading the positive reviews. I love Peruvian food, having visited Peru, and have always enjoyed the country's culture and cuisine. We started with the papa a la huancaína, followed by the pollo saltado, tallarines verdes con pollo, and a chicha morada. The papa a la huancaína was decent, but it lacked the rich, flavorful sauce I was expecting. Unfortunately, the chicken in the tallarines verdes con pollo was undercooked. I let our server know, and when the dish was returned, the chicken had been cooked to the point that parts of it were charred black. I also wasn't impressed with the quality of the chicken, as I bit into hard pieces that caused me to spit out my food. The noodles themselves also lacked flavor, so I ended up leaving most of the dish untouched. The pollo saltado was the better of the two entrées, and we finished that plate. The chicha morada was refreshing and enjoyable. As for the sauces, the ají verde was mild and lacked flavor, while the ají panca was much better full of flavor with a nice kick of spice. The service was also just okay. There was one server handling the dining room, and while he wasn't unfriendly, the service felt very minimal. Overall, I really wanted to love the food based on the reviews, but I found it to be average. The portions, however, were generous. I left disappointed and don't plan to return. It's possible I simply ordered the wrong dishes, but since these are classic Peruvian staples, I expected them to be much more flavorful and better executed. read more

Me and my wife have been here many times--to the point where we're regulars. There was a period when we almost stopped coming because the service suddenly became very poor. Everything from the ceviche, chaufa and lomo saltado were flavorful and tasty.The seafood saltado and papa a la huancaina were our favs. Service was good and food came out after about 15 minutes. We asked for bread, but they didn't serve any which was too bad. I love bread with the green sauce! We were raving about this place and some friends also ordered it for an upcoming birthday dinner. I'd love to see them offer ají de gallina on their menu or even as a special. Other: Lots of parking. I don't think they have a liquor license. Small but clean restaurant. I remember the flames.  In my kitchen they flicker like a candle.  Here they are like the sun itself.  Fire reaches for the ceiling.  It envelopes the wok and imparts the food with a delicious smoky flavor unlike any other place I have eaten. I've been a fan of Latin Chef since I tried them at Liberty Station.  This new spot is much nicer.  Smoky scent from the flames led me to Chef Tony. I ordered the lomo saltado.  Tomatoes had a delicious smoky flavor.  Fries were covered in tasty sauce.  Steak was tender and full of beefy flavor with a hint of sweetness.  Great tasting dish. Lucuma ice cream had a delicious sweet flavor a bit like butterscotch. 2nd visit I tried the beef fried rice.  Loved the smoky flavor imparted from the wok.  Beef was tender and full of flavor.  I miss the bean sprouts Tony added to this dish in the old days.  This new version is very tasty but I loved how the bean sprouts balanced this dish with some added moisture. I also ordered a papa rellena.  The potato part was soft and fluffy.  Inside was beef and part of a hard boiled egg.  Loved the flavor from the beef and I would have preferred more beef to the egg. It was great seeing Tony again.  Tony and his staff always greeted me with a friendly smile.  Looks like Tony is working here every weekend.   I love eating at the Latin Chef for the excellent hospitality and delicious Peruvian food. Our family tried Latin Chef Peruvian Cuisine in Oceanside for the first time last Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and delicious everything was, and how generous the portions were! We ordered Platanos Fritos and Papa Ala Huancaina for appetizers, and Tallarin Saltado de Pollo, Tallarines Verdes con Tofu, Talllarin Saltado de Tofu and Pollo Saltado for our entrees. Service was excellent and our food was fresh and amazing. The blend of various spices was excellent and on point. The pesto/basil sauce on the Tallarines Verdes con Tofu was better than most Italian restaurants, and the Tofu was perfectly cooked with a slight crunch on the outside. We did ask for some of the red, spicy chile pepper sauce to spice things up a bit. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back! read more

5 stars for me is "I can't wait to go back". This restaurant is definitely that. It was Muy Delicioso. Flavorful, plentiful, very well seasoned, there is something for everyone here. All the plates we have seen out of the kitchen were looking awesome. Talking about the kitchen, when they say open flame on the menu they mean it :-) there are a LOT of flames, not for the show but for flavor. The pollo saltado was super tasty and vey well seasoned. The ceviche de Pescado was very good. I also got the chicken fried rice that was just ok rice was a little hard. We also tried the lomo saltado and it was good. I was a little disappointed with the fact they didn't give you anything to start no bread or anything. THE LATIN CHEF : Peruvian Cuisine is Oceanside's latest addition to the Latin food scene and it just opened up January 2024. The Latin Chef has other locations, including their premier Liberty Station. This location is on Oceanside Blvd. in the Oceanside Marketplace, where Ceja's Mexican used to be. There's some parking spaces out front, but it's very cramped when it gets crowded and it's difficult to maneuver with many vehicles around. The interior is very basic and simple, with slightly dimmed lighting to set the relaxing ambiance. There are a few photos of the owners and 2 pieces of art. Very plain almost. It lacks greenery, plants or anything that is native to Peru that would give it true character. But it is very spacious inside and it's good for group seating. The chairs are lightly cushioned and there's one long "booth" seating area on the side. Service is friendly and relatively fast. They whipped up my Lomo Saltado in under 10 minutes. Although there's a slight language barrier, the servers know enough English to take my order correctly. Their menu range starts rather high and most dishes are $21-$24; but this is typical for a business to survive in this location. My lomo saltado was delicious and was a fair potion size. They only have 2 beverages on the menu and the chícha morado drink was tasty (reminded me of a Jamaica). Overall, The Latin Chef is a nice addition to the Latin dining scene in the area, although there is a Peruvian restaurant just down the street. The service here is excellent! The servers are very friendly and quick. The location is is larger than some other locations. I've been to as far as Peruvian food goes. The meals that we got here were really tasty. I will say the portions here a little smaller than other Peruvian locations I have visited in the past, but the food was still pretty flavorful. The restaurant itself is very well kept and clean. I would give this shit about a four out of five but the service of five out of five for sure. I've been missing Panca so I was excited to see this place come up on Yelp. We placed a to-go order for their Lomo Saltado (mine) and the Saltado de Pollo (my husband's). They gave us two containers of their spicy green sauce. I would have been bummed but my husband doesn't like spicy food so I got his. Unfortunately I had to use all of both sauces, scraping it all out of the bottom, because there wasn't much flavor in the food. I thought there were way too many fries. The meat was tender and I liked the crunch of the red onion. I don't think I'll be back. My husband will have to stop at the Inka Grill on his way home from Orange County. While waiting for my son to finish his School Volunteering, I searched for a place nearby for our Lunch. I was surprised to see a very familiar name on the list, a restaurant called "LATIN CHEF PERUVIAN CUSINE ". It's my favorite Peruvian place to go to at Liberty Station Point Loma . We drove right away to this new added location they have in OCEANSIDE. We got in right away the moment they opened the door. The first thing I asked the server was if Chef Tony was present in the Kitchen 'coz I like to order a lot when he is around 'coz the food will definitely be delicious when he is there! The server handed us the Menu but there was no need, we ordered right away 'coz we know Peruvian food, I'm a sucker for Peruvian food :) We ordered: *CEVICHE MIXTO *LOMO SALTADO *TALARIN SALTADO DE RES *JALEA - variety of Fried Seafood *TALARIN VERDES CON BISTEK My husband's favorite here is the Jalea, it's crispy and the seafood has a nice batter. My son's favorite is the Talarin Saltado and the Talarin Verde con Bistek. The bistek was soft and grilled nicely, and the Talarin Verde noodles were so flavorful. The Talarin Saltado has that good stir Fry aroma and the noodles are not soggy, well seasoned too. And my favorite, as always, is the Lomo saltado, it has simple meat with fries and rice, but I hope that the meats on the Lomo Saltado are more tender. We didn't get any Dessert because our Tummy was so packed already. When all the orders were sent out to the customers inside, Chef Tony finally got a chance to go out of the Kitchen and greet the customers. We like this added location of the Latin Chef, it's their own place, we like the one in Liberty Station too, but over there it's like a shared place with other vendors and shared tables, here it's their own space. Ok, well I'm kind of in a quandary here. I love seeing new restaurants pop up and always want to support small businesses. I always try to give grace to places that recently open because sometimes it takes a while to get into your groove, you know? Latin Chef is a new Peruvian place that opened up. I was so glad to see it because I loved Panca and was sad to see that place close. Latin Chef has a ton of seafood options on the menu, which was great since my husband eats seafood mainly in restaurants. I asked for sparkling water with lemon. No dice. They only had regular water and if I wanted lemon in it, it would just be them squeezing some lemon juice in it. Odd, but uhhhh ok I guess? Maybe they are saving money and not giving lemons? Who knows. We had fried cassava which was very much like light crispy thick cut fries. Delicious! We also got the ceviche. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer smaller cuts on the fish in ceviche so that it's just lightly cooked through and rare. The chunks in the ceviche were so big that there were pieces in it that were almost completely raw. I like sushi... when I'm expecting it. I wasn't a fan, but maybe that is how it is in Peruvian food? Who knows. They had a dish that my husband wanted to try that had a creamy tomato sauce, but isn't so crazy about creams in sauces. They accommodated him by making it not creamy. Yay. He said it was delicious. I ordered fried chicken in noodles with a pesto type of sauce. This was not good. The chicken was pounded thin, but soooooo dry and overcooked. the noodles were also overcooked and almost soggy in so much sauce. Nope! Like I said, I like to give new restaurants a fair shake and hope that they improve. They have good reviews so far, so I'm hoping it was just a fluke that my food was so bad. I always like to see small businesses succeed, so I hope they see this and will take it as constructive from someone that wants to see them succeed! Just tried this restaurant based on all the good reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, our experience was not good, we found the restaurant extremely overrated and overpriced. For $21 my dish was basically 95% soggy french fries and a little bit of beef. My wife got one of the seafood dishes and found it way too salty. The rice was undercooked and not tasty. Not only was it lacking in fresh flavor, it was also very greasy and the fries were soggy and more than likely frozen. This is not what you would expect from Peruvian cuisine. I don't recommend. Very limited on drinks as well - I asked for water and I think it was tap water since it smelled and tasted weird. Cup also had a bit of a smell. Food: for my daughter I just ordered a side of rice (it was a large size) since they don't offer anything for kids. We had yuca frita which lacked in flavor (had to put some salt/pepper). The rice tasted a bit bland. I ordered the pollo saltado and it lacked flavor- I had to order some fried plantains to bring some flavor to the plate. My husband ordered 1/2 pollo a la Brasa with rice and fries - HUGE portion. The chicken tasted good but there were parts that were a bit dry. Also, when ordering this plate , our server had to verify if they had any available which makes me assume that there could be times when they don't have any so if you go just for the pollo a la Brasa I would call ahead of time. They do have a large selection of seafood plates (maybe this is what they specialized in?) I think the prices were fair. Takeout order was two appetizers (Peruvian Salad and Papa Ala Huancaina) and four entrees (Arroz Chaufa de Pollo, Tallarin Verdes De Pollo, Tallarin Salgado De Res and Lomo Salgado). Food in general was very well seasoned and tasty, although the two beef dishes were disappointing. The french fries in the Lomo Saltado were soggy and the strips of beef in both the beef dishes (somewhat stingy in quantity I might add) were very tough and chewy. Not what I expected for sure, maybe just an off-night for the chef). The chicken entrees and the potato appetizer were excellent but the salad was just meh (and be careful with the olives because they have pits in them). I love Peruvian cuisine, and when I discovered this place on UberEats, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Pescado a lo Macho via UberEats for lunch, but the dish was very disappointing. There was so much salt in every piece of the seafood, the only thing that was edible was the rice. Just one teaspoon of the sauce was enough for me to finish all the rice --- that's how salty it was. I had to throw away the rest of it. I usually can tolerate intense seasoning ... but they probably used half a bottle of salt on my dish. read more
