Finally we have a Peruvian restaurant close by with great food. We've been to the Latin Chef down in Point Loma, but we are so happy having it now here in Oceanside. The restaurant has just been open for a week, and we've been there already twice. My boyfriend is Peruvian, and he is very picky when it comes to his food, and he was impressed by what we ordered. We started out with Choros a la Chalaca, which were not on the menu, but Toni, the chef and owner, made them for us. They were excellent! We also had Lomo Saltado, which tasted great. Of course we wanted also try Ceviche Mixto. The flavor was spot on. We ended up with Lucuma Ice Cream. Overall we really liked all the food items we've tried. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. AMAZING FOOD! Super authentic. I went here with my Peruvian friends and we kept mentioning how great it was! Friends got Chaufa, ceviche, and Tallarines verdes with meats, and I got it with tofu. The prices are also very reasonable considering the quality of the food and the size of the portions. This was the first time we tried it. Our go-to Peruvian food in North County used to be Panca, and didn't feel like driving to Del Mar. A very delicious choice. Their anticuchos were delicious. Their chupe de camarones was a meal for 2, and very tasty. I enjoyed the pescado a la macha. My only comment is that the octopus could have needed a little more time for cooking time. Took some picarones home and they were so good. Just needed more sauce. As for the restaurant itself, it was very clean. The only negative was a little too warm in the restaurant. If you are not going to use AC, put up ceiling fans, and open a door for ventilation. The service was very good. I liked the variety of choices and I will be back for another time to try some of their other dishes. read more

I come to this mall often to pick up Maan's or boba, and didn't have any expectations when I stopped in for pick up. The employees were super friendly and helpful in giving me suggestions and I ended up ordering a ceviche and a fish dish. The food tasted fresh and totally worth the $, as my plate was filled with various seafood. The ceviche was filled with juicy large shrimp, octopus, fish, etc. I'm new to Latin cuisine but the second dish was like a Spanish paella with Asian style white rice. Very plain space, not alot going on ambiance wise other than photos of the chef throughout the restaurant. We ordered the Leche de Tigre (very tasty), bistek a lo pobre, arros chaufa de carne (meat was a bit over cooked & dry in my opinion), lastly we ordered parihuela (yummy seafood soup). We were excited to try this place out as we love Peruvian food, the food was worth trying however I was EXTREMELY BUMMED to see how the chef (OWNER) treated his staff. Our server (the ONLY person working the entire FOH) greeted us when we arrived. We were the first to join as we got there pretty early @ 530. Shortly after service started to pick up with walk-ins and lots of Togo order pick ups. The server was doing her best to great guest, seat them, take their orders, & run food. AGAIN ALL BY HERSELF. As soon as food was ready the chef would ding the bell aggressively and if she was not there to pick it up in seconds he would ding it 2 more times even more aggressively. I work in the industry I understand the importance of running HOT food. But I'm talking seconds that this food was sitting there. He was not taking into consideration the fact that she was literally taking someone's order while he was vigorously dinging the bell. It was literally triggering for me to hear that damn bell. I felt so bad for the server who still showed up so politely to every table. I could see how overwhelmed she was by him. We asked if he was the owner bc we couldn't believe how terrible he was treating her. If I was her I would have walked out tbh. Super bummed bc the food was good but not sure that I want to support someone who has no respect for their own team. Note to the owner Chef Tony- if you want her to go faster hire another person to support her, and or integrate systems that allow for quicker service like handheld tablets so she doesn't have to hand write orders and then go type them in all while handling ALL aspects of the front of house!!!! read more

I have followed this chef in all his business endeavor. liberty station, barrio Logan and now Oceanside! today we got to see his Oceanside location and the food was IMPECCABLE ! Saturday night we were in the mood for Peruvian and happened to come across Latin Chef. We had Fried Rice with seafood and OMG it was so amazing, we got another order to take home. The ceviche was different and delicious with mussels, shrimp and fish and I think sweet potato.
