I LOVE LAUREL!! With awesome food and an adorable atmosphere, it can't be beat. It's the perfect place for a weekend breakfast but make sure you get there early because the tables and the counter fill up fast and it can be difficult to find a parking spot. The staff is usually friendly but can sometimes seem like they don't want us there. I've had this place on my radar for a while. Ever since I heard that they make their own corned beef and corned beef hash which I have a weakness for. Laurel Diner lived up to the hype. I ordered the corned beef hash and cheese omelet (a house special) which came with toast and hash browns which are also an item of note at the Laurel. The potatoes were tasty bit the corned beef hash was homerun. My one regret is that I wish I had ordered the CB hash as a side instead of integrated with cheese inside the tasty omelet. It's definitely good enough to stand on its own and deserves to do so. It's a half hour drive but I'll definitely be back for more hash and also to try their Reuben which is made with their house made corned beef. It's also worth noting that the service was excellent. Very disappointed in this last visit. The food is good but...you will notice that the cook/owner never hard scrapes his cooktop, so if you don't mind eating someone else's breakfast from hours earlier then good for you. My biggest complaint is that I sat at the counter right in front of the cook and the young waitress came by to take my order but never took a rag to clean the counter. My space and the ones to my left and right were full of crumbs, salt & pepper and globs of syrup. The waitress brings me my drink and still no wipe down. The chef/owner sees the counter and never instructs the waitress to wipe it off. I can eat at the greasiest of greasy spoons but I refuse to eat at places the will not clean counters and tables. I will go to Leo's from now on. Their place is always clean and the food is just as good. I forgot to mention that I cancelled my order and did not stay to eat. Went to Leo's instead. read more

I had a western omlette with rye toast and home fries which was great. Fresh vegtables and home fries were cooked crisp and not soggy. Myself and my frien both enjoyed our food in this TINY but quaint place. On a Saturday morning this place was hopping with locals - a great sign. We spent the weekend in Connecticut for Presidents Day - We were on our way to Coco Keys for our daughter to enjoy a water park in the heart of winter. We stop at Laurel for breakfast before our day's adventure. We love the food, we love the service, we love the atmosphere. We would defiantly recommend this place for all especially to all families. Our waitress was excellent, she kept checking up on us to make sure we were comfortable because I guess she realize we were not locals. The restaurant was clean and cozy - Customer service - excellent! Friendly and polite. We went back yesterday (02-20-12) for breakfast before we hit the road to NYC but we were disappointed they were closed - We were celebrating in the car when we saw the parking lot empty - we were like "Yes" we got the place for ourselves....lol... read more

My high school English teacher introduced me to the idea that a real American diner is a restaurant where you can sit at the counter and watch the food being cooked by the owner who is also the head cook. Laurel Diner checks all the boxes. It's right out of a Hemingway novel. The homemade hash is Americana on a plate and definitely one of my favorites there. Laurel diner is a small, quaint diner on the side of the road along the main drag in Southbury. Inside, menu items are scrawled on the wall, including various omelettes, Mickey Mouse pancakes and house made specials. The house made corned beef hash it AMAZING. I have had a couple different dishes there but the corned beef hash omelette is my favorite. Service is quick as is the arrival of your food. The staff are friendly and professional. And their homefries! SO GOOD. If you have the opportunity to go to Laurel diner, don't hesitate. Yum! PS Its cash only. =) read more

This is such a hidden gem!! It seems like this nasty little tiny hole in the wall until your food is delivered and it's the best breakfast ever!! The food is amazingggg!!! Went to breakfast after my Dr Appt. Diner got good reviews so I figured lets try it. Awesome place. I had the 2 eggs and hash and homefry special $7.50 my son had an egg and cheese sandwich $2.50. The hash was great, home fries great as well. I'm a foodie saw I was watching the cook and he was absolutely into his cooking( must be the owner). The coffee was very good as well. 5 stars in my opinion. Next appt I will try the eggs benedict. read more

One of the best diners I've ever been too. My boyfriend and I stumbled across it looking for a gas station on our way home from vacation. Highly recommend the cinnamon roll french toast. The diner was busy and with it being so small we stood by the door to wait for one of the seven tables. No one us acknowledged us or said hello as we waited. A gentleman finished his breakfast and headed to the cash register to pay so we sat at that table. We sat there with the dirty dishes as the waitress passed numerous times. After about 10 minutes she stopped by wiped the table, grabbed the plate and asked us for our order. She then brought our coffees which are in very small 8oz mugs. The coffee was very weak however you could tell it was freshly brewed. The food arrived and it was cooked as ordered. (house special 2 eggs, home fries, corn beef hash and toast, and an omelet.). The food tasted good I especially liked the home fries and hash. The toast was cold and looked as though it had been sitting a bit before buttering because the butter never melted and just sat on the toast. The omelets are 2 egg so don't expect it to fill your plate. We both finished our coffees and placed our mugs at the edge of the table expecting the waitress to offer a refill. She never stopped back to ask how the food was or if we needed a refill. She was young and pleasant however not very attentive. We still left her a 20% tip and exited the diner. We both decided the food was good, service below average and if it wasn't very busy we try it again... however if it looked near capacity we'd pass and eat elsewhere. read more
