Berlu Bakery is an authentic Vietnamese bakeshop spearheaded by a James Beard award-winning chef. This spot is located in the Belmont area where street parking will be your go to. Inside, they have a modern and minimalistic setup with a good amount of seating. Wifey and I ended up getting a couple of their pastries to try, including the star of the show, the Banh Bo Nuong. Everything that we had tasted amazing and all of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. You can tell they really put a lot of craft and intention into the products they put out. Berlu Bakery is Viet gang approved!

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to try out Berlu Bakery! The store front is bright and has a lot of seating so that you can enjoy your treats. We ordered at the front - a salted egg tart, pear and pandan roll cake, and the pandan bánh bò nướng. The roll cake was my favorite. The delicate flavor of the pandan complemented the pear well and the cake itself wasn't too sweet. The honeycomb cake was super unique - coconut milk flavor forward and a bit salty. The salted egg tart was also a treat! The Vietnamese iced coffee here wasn't my thing. The menu says it's is sweetened with condensed milk but the flavor tastes like coconut milk and slightly sour. Overall, I would visit again to try the rest of the pastries. It's a great space for meet up with friends so I'll be sure to do that too :)

A very belated review of one of my favorite bakeries in town. I was so sad when they shuttered their doors in 2024 and then thrilled when they reopened in 2025! I love all of their pastries and others have written about them at length so I won't bore you. The tldr is that they're generally chewy but with a mixture of textures, lots of use of tropical se Asian flavors like lychee, coconut, pandan, etc. I know they're known for their pastries but I really appreciate their savory menu items like their ban xeo (which I think is no longer on the menu) and their avo toast. Want to come back for their bowl of noodle soup. The interior is a really fresh white with pops of bold color and spacious with multiple seating options. I love bringing out of town guests here because the menu is so unique and well executed!

We came here for lunch. You order at the counter and they bring out your drinks and hot items. There's self-serve water, utensils, to-go containers, but they will bus for you. The Bun Berlu has a nice clean, tart and peppery profile and comes with a generous amount of their house-made meatballs. The sablefish balls were a little softer than the pork belly, and I think I slightly preferred them, but both are good. My favorite baked goods were the pandan tapioca cake, which comes with a separate salted cream, and the salted egg/coconut tart. Tip is included in pricing.

Like some other reviewers said, I really wanted to like this place but I unfortunately did not enjoy the desserts we got. I've been wanting to try Berlu for a few years, since they were at their old location, so I was excited to try their honeycomb cake! We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. We were on the way to grab food but as we passed by, we figured let's do desserts first! Would have tried their savory foods but we didn't want to be too full for lunch. After trying the desserts, probably won't be back for the food. Seating area is cute and the bathroom is clean. We tried 3 desserts: Honeycomb cake with coconut sauce - 2/5. The cake was cold, a little dry and felt kinda old/stale, not very bouncy. The coconut sauce seemed fine for the first second but then this very unpleasant stinky taste came through. Can't put my finger on it but it just tasted off, like it went bad. It turned a meh disappointing dessert into a bad one. Salted egg yolk tart - 3.5/5 nothing special or much taste to it? I love salted egg yolk and was expecting more of the salty flavor you'd expect from it and didn't get that. This didn't taste like much and didn't have any exciting texture elements to it either. Cardamom passionfruit crème brûlée tart- 4.5/5. If you come here for one dessert, I'd say to ge this one! The passionfruit was nice and bright, the cardamom cake had no cardamom taste but had a nice chewy texture. Coconut creme brûlée top was fun too and it was freshly torched (waited a couple minutes for it) so it had a little crunch! We liked the combinations of textures of this one. The cardamom cake could have had more flavor but overall was very enjoyable!

Got to try this spot this past weekend. The service was relatively quick, I didn't get to try their savory foods or drinks, but I got to try a handful of their sweets. I got to try their chocolate bahn Bo and pandan bahn Bo, enjoyed both of them. The bahn Bo reminds me of a Chinese dessert called bai tang gao, it was like a less sweet version. Still enjoyed it, I just wasn't a huge fan of the coconut sauce that came with the pandan one as the dip was salty. Also got to try their pandan cake roll with pear in it, the pear added a nice refreshing touch to the dessert. My dad tried the safran cake and he enjoyed it. Overall I found it really neat that this place is both gluten free and dairy free as well. The interior of the place is nice and clean!

First time visitor and I was not disappointed!! My favorite was the clove canelè but all the desserts were the perfect balance of texture and sweetness. I loved the modern take on classic viet flavors. Seeing the owner in store helping production was like a celebrity sighting, I've been following him on instagram for a while and am so glad I got the chance to visit this trip. I'd recommend this bakery to everyone and hope I can make time to squeeze in another visit before I leave!!

We had another great visit to Berlu Bakery. We stopped in for one-of-everything, a bowl of noodles and the avocado toast. The service was friendly and we would have tipped but they are sustainably priced so their staff don't have to work for tips. Even better. The space was bright, clean and comfortable. The noodles were delicious and warming on a cool, rainy day. We enjoyed the pastries later with guests. I love that they are gluten and dairy free so I can share with my friends who have dietary restrictions. I don't do caffeine and their toasted coconut water was a delicious decaf drink option.

Very very cute spot. There is decent parking around the area but you will have to pay. Inside is very clean and spacious. There are some very fun baked goods and a list of drinks. I got the mango cake and pandan cake. I ordered a pandan pistachio latte. The mango cake was amazing but I think overpriced. I paid $20 for everything. The pandan cake was very chewy and came with a coconut sauce. I didn't realize that the pandan pistachio latte didn't have coffee. It's not great in my opinion. Just nutty milk. Service was great and their playlist was so good.

    Bacon egg banh cuon

So many options. I really liked the banh cuon. It's hard to find this dish in general and this was an interesting twist. The pastries were okay. I might call myself a canale connoisseur and this one was kind of disappointing. It is a very difficult baked good to make. The banh bo was on the dry side in my opinion. It came with a coconut dipping sauce which I had never really seen before with this type of banh bo.

Berlu has reopened in its new-but-near space as a bakery-only spot. I read up on this place before I went and knew what to expect. I was FLOORED by the flavors and really enjoyed the entire experience. I cannot wait to go back for more flavors and see what they do next!

If you are looking for fresh, flavorful, and satisfying comfort food, do not walk--run to this spot. To get the full experience, we ordered a variety, and every single item was a hit. We started with the Beef Pho, and the broth was the absolute star. It was rich, aromatic, and deeply savory, clearly simmered for hours. It was the perfect dish on a sunny Portland day. We also grabbed a Chicken Banh Mi. The bread had that perfect crispy crust with a soft, airy crumb, and the chicken was grilled to perfection with fresh veggies and herbs. Of course, we had to wash it all down with a creamy, sweet Thai Tea--it was delicious and the perfect end to the meal. Beyond the food, the vibe is great. It's a super clean, casual spot with big windows letting in lots of natural light. It's set up for quick counter service, which makes it perfect for a fast lunch downtown, but the staff is so friendly and welcoming that you feel right at home. It's a family-run business, and you can taste the passion in the food. Highlights: · The Pho Broth: Seriously some of the best in the city. · The Banh Mi: Fresh bread, great fillings. · The Service: Fast, efficient, and incredibly kind. Pro Tip: Don't forget to grab your own utensils and sauces (the chili crisp is a must for the pho), and help yourself to the free self-serve hot tea. It's the little touches like that which make this place a winner. I am already planning my next trip back to try the Crispy Pork Belly. Highly recommend

Positives: fresh, well made, very flavorful proteins. Cons:…read morePrice I tried Cuon for the first time and enjoyed it. I went for a Vermicelli bowl where you get to pick 2 proteins. I selected Pork Belly (their specialty) and lemongrass chicken. The bowl itself is standard Vietnamese fare, nothing special, creative or exciting in that sense. That said, the ingredients tasted fresh and the proteins were very well seasoned and cooked. The pork belly skin had an awesome crunch and you can clearly taste the lemongrass in the chicken. The included spring roll had nice crunch but little flavor. Unfortunately, outside of Pho, Banh Mi and Noodle Bowls, there's sadly not much else to the menu. No Vietnamese salads, stir frys, etc. Either way, what they do make, they seem to make quite well. So, on to my main issue ie, that for a place thats only open for lunch, the prices are a bit too high. I noted about $16 for a Banh Mi sandwich, no sides. Pho was around $20 and my noodle bowl was about $20 as well. Weirdly, its about the same prices as eating lunch back home in Miami, a FAR more expensive city in general. In fact, I've often had more exciting Vietnamese in Manhattan for lower prices. So while its easy to recommend Cuon on quality, its not a top recommendation for lunch value in the PDX which is why Im docking 1 star.
