FYI: the former owners of this restaurant have sold and moved on. The new owners seem to have kept the same menu but the food is subpar. The wait for Laurie's used to be ridicules, now it seems only one or two tables are occupied. The food was either cold or burnt, I'm pretty sure the kids Mac and cheese was Kraft microwave. We used to eat here once or twice a week and my family agreed it's over. It's sad. It looks the same (actually it's a lot cleaner now) but it's got that feel that it'll close soon. It's like slowly losing a friend. Maybe it'll turn around. Who knows? I heard Monument Cafe is better after years of inconsistent food, but I haven't eaten there in years. read more

We use to eat here all the time when Laurie owned the restaurant. Use to between 12:00 & 2:00 you couldn't find a table, but today we got there at 1:00 and hardly anybody was there. The new owner which is from Austin can't hold a candle to Laurie and her husband. He said that he kept the name and bought Laurie's recipes, with that said he might have bought them, but he sure can't prepare them as she did. Laurie was always greeting people with her beautiful smile and always had extra straws in her cute aprons. The Quiche was runny and cold and the ButterFinger pie was disgusting. Man.. what can I say. This place is delicious! The service is awesome, and the quiche is on point! Is the little details that will be have you coming back. My first visit here yielded some surprises. I notice that most of the reviews here are from last year, and the most recent from much earlier this year. Things Change. I had the chicken salad, which was more a micro-chopped-pecan salad with chicken, and tasted way too "earthy" rather than like chicken salad ought to taste. I love good chicken salad so that disappointed me. The quiche was exellent and so was the fruit cup. What really bothered me was the service, and here is why: my server was cheerful and all that, (which turned out to be more or less setting the stage for the coup d'etat), but when I received my check, it was the green check from her pad, not a printed check, and it did NOT have the tax included. When I asked for a normal receipt with the food and tax printed on it, she told me that my 8.99 platter and glass of water was "10.27 with tax". Ah, but that would be the price of a 9.49 meal with tax, not an 8.99 meal with tax. Where, I wondered, was that extra 54 cents going to go? She asked me if I wanted a receipt after she rang it up, but I knew that I would not be getting the kind of receipt that I was asking for, and so I said no. Then she proceeded to hover over me, practically invading my personal space, as I was getting my cash out to give to her. I felt Rushed and Hustled. I can do arithmetic in my head so i Knew that I was being hustled out of 54 cents so I lowered her tip by that amount. In all the years that I have been dining out throughout the USA, I have NEVER been given a server's pad check with no tax figured on it. Restaurants always print out their receipts which include what you had plus the tax and total, pre-tip. Bottom Line is that I will NEVER go back. I can get excellent quiche and fruit salad elsewhere, as well as desserts, and I will take my business and my money to those places, as I get a Real Receipt, and the Servers do not hover and rush me. read more

I just walked by this place and decided to pop in one afternoon, and I'm so glad I did. Although there are very limited vegetarian options, what they do offer for lacto-ovo vegetarians is amazing. Additionally, the service is very friendly and prompt. I typically go for the egg salad, side salad, fruit, and a desert. I usually have water with my meals but the lemonade is worth it! read more

Really enjoyed my experience here! After reading these reviews, I was eager to try it out. My friend and fellow mom joined me for lunch and we had 2 small children and a baby amongst us. Portions were large and very well priced with more then enough to share with our respective sons. Dessert was also huge (and delicious) and allowed for sharing. Oh my goodness! Laurie's Too is the quaintest jem of Georgetown. A girlfriend took me for lunch to experience the wonderful food we'd be having at her wedding. From the first look at the menu, I was afraid I'd never be able to decide. Alas, I settled on the ham and 3 onion quiche paired with the broccoli-cheese soup. One word...YUM! I've been dreaming about that damn quiche every day since, wondering if I can even come close to making it that fabulous. And the corn muffin? Oh my. It was all simply yummy. I have enjoyed Laurie's frozen casseroles since 1996. They are meant to be served with some side dishes and if so the serving sizes are perfect. Recently, I visited with two co-workers at lunch during the week. It was busy and took a bit to get waited on. However, was it ever worth the wait. Everyone in my group (including one man) thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The most difficult decision is deciding what you are actually going to order. As you look around the room, there are only tempting meals and smiling faces that are contented. The noise level is a little loud, but it is a terrific find in Georgetown! Can't wait to go again soon! Or at a minimum, cook something from one of her cookbooks. Try it next time you are in town! read more

This is the second time that I ordered my food to go and the portions and food were disappointing. I thought that I'd give them another chance and now I won't be going back, sadly. Today I ordered the Special of the Day, Lasagna. It came with a cesar salad and roll. When I picked up the bag to take it to my car, I thought that this was really lite. I opened it up and the lasagna portion was extremely poor. The lasagna consisted of 2 noodle layers (one being the bottom) with a thin layer of cheese in the middle and a meat sauce on top. The salad was wilted (just like my previous salad that I ordered) and looked like 1/3 of a cup and the dressing was tasteless and seemed more like oil (just like my previous order). I paid a little over $10.00 and am disappointed once again in what I was given. read more

I took my mother to lunch today at Laurie's Tearoom. It was her 86th Birthday and I wanted to treat her to something special. I was very hesitate due to the several negative reviews. I want to encourage anyone who would enjoy a wonderful lunch to try Laurie's Tearoom. The food was excellent not to mention the wait staff were awesome! I couldn't ask for a better eating experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and it appeared that everyone working there worked as a team and really liked each other. Makes for a very comfortable experience. The Tearoom was very clean and the service was excellent. I can't say enough! I well be bringing my sisters here soon so they can enjoy a wonderful lunch! read more

This is my go-to place since I work on the square. I know I can find something healthy here. I wish prices were a little lower but I realize this is a mom and pop shop so whatever. I enjoy their quiche's except for the seafood ones. It certainly tasted like seafood but did not see any kid of seafood in there. And their menu changes every week. A lot of times I don't like their selection of soups for that week (clam chowder..ugh) so I don't go at all. But usually their food is pretty good if you're into quiches, salads, and soups. read more

I don't get it. I found the chicken salad really boring and the Cobb salad dressing pretty much tasteless. The ice tea was super-strong and came with a lime, which is good, but that's not enough to recommend it for me. It's a cute enough place, and I like to support local businesses, but I didn't even think much of the small $1.50 chocolate chip cookie I got for dessert. Laurie's is usually a good place to eat - great recipes, good service, etc. Today was really bad. All the customers we saw waited a long, long time. We were told after about 25 minutes that the food we ordered was not available. We were offered a substitute. Our food was so-so. This is a must try if you are in Georgetown. Laurie's turns out some fantastic food. Their staples are quiches, salads, and sandwiches all of which are delicious. Don't hesitate for a second to take home one of their casseroles. The ones we have tried have been terrific. Call ahead and find out when Laurie is making her Canadian Cheddar Soup - wow! This places constantly packed dinning room is a testimony to its great food. The hamburgers are some of the best in town and the combos are a great way to get to taste all the little extras. The only downside is that you can feel pretty rushed just do to the business of the place, but the owner and all the staff are very friendly and make you feel comfortable despite that. Ordered the combo deal, salad, quiche & a muffin. The salad was about a half cup of cut up apples with a sweet dressing. The quiche was a SMALL slice and about an inch high. Was supposed to have Canadian bacon in it. My 2 pieces of bacon which I could barely see equaled about the size of a half of a raisin! The corn jalapeño muffin had NO jalapeño in it and it was baby size. It was dry & I almost choked on it. The only part of the meal that was a nice size & very good was the Italian cream cake. P.S. We waited and waited for our order to be taken and the people who were seated next to us 10 minutes later were served before us. P.P.S. I phoned to ask when they'd serve the Italian cream cake again and while waiting for any answer, the owner screamed so loud to someone (I assume a waitress; I hope not a customer) that I feared my eardrum was busted. I dont know what is so great about this place except the chicken almond quiche and our waitress. Obviously a frozen patty on the burgers. Taste like Costco to me. Dont let the owners southern hospitality fool you. She yells at staff during service, ive seen her get nasty with customers. No wonder no one smiles here. Prices are too high...almost $8 for a BLT. I know bacon has gone up but I could have made one at home with a pound of bacon on it for less. If you want people to spend that throw some repairs and paint on a few things. Really had to think about this one. If you don't mind a Jekyll and Hyde owner who pours on the charm to diners while snapping at and belittling her very sweet staff, then this is the place for you. They also don't seem to be allowed to take orders, just serve the food--tips, anyone? The food is OK, but I have to disagree with another reviewer--can't make up for an atmosphere that puts knots in your stomach. I love this place! Honestly some of the best food in Georgetown. The only thing that I don't like is their hours, they are a only open for lunch and are closed on Sundays. I work in Austin so the only time I get to sneak in there is when I'm free for lunch on Saturdays. read more

Where is Cherry? How sad and disappointed we were to go up to our monthly lunch at Laurie's and not find her there with her hugs, Bible verses and straws in her apron. The place is usually so busy we have to wait and this time tables were empty. When we asked we were told she did not work there anymore. We will likely never go back. My wife insisted that we try this place, because her friends like it. I'd never go back. I found the food just average, the service was slow, and they got our order wrong (even after we waited a very long time), and I thought it was a bit over priced. As for the "charming" owner, she seemed overbearing to her staff, but that is not the reason for 2 stars. While i agree, employers should be nice to their staff, that is not the purpose of a review- unless the way she is treating them makes you feel extremely uncomfortable. The 2 stars in this review are a reflection of quality of service, food, and value for the money. read more
