We met up here with my husband's family and his cousin who was graduating this past weekend. My husband ordered the classic breakfast and I ordered a specialty omelet, the Fats Domino. The potatoes were nice and crispy, as was the bacon. The omelet was STUFFED with bacon, and a little bit of sausage and potato. The biscuit was okay.

Stopped by Johnny's Angel and went straight for my forever favorite, the Fats Domino omelet. Packed with sausage, potato, bacon and melty cheese, it's hearty, comforting and absolutely loaded with flavor. Paired with creamy cheesy grits and classic white toast, this plate hits every nostalgic breakfast note. Service was friendly and quick, and the retro diner vibes never miss. Chrome, color and old-school charm everywhere you look. It really does feel like stepping into a time machine to when breakfast spots were the heart of the neighborhood. If you're craving a true diner breakfast done right, Johnny's Angel needs to be on your Jacksonville list. Have you been yet or is this going on your must-try list

We were immediately impressed when we went in; lots of dark wood and a long bar with shelves and shelves of spirits. There were mostly bourbons and whiskeys. They even had a rolling ladder so bartenders could reach top-shelf bottles. We had about a 10 minute wait for a table on a Saturday for lunch. The time went by quickly and we were seated at a small wooden table. Our server, Erin, approached us quickly and took our drink orders. I ordered a Blue Moon and my husband had the WC Old-Fashioned. It was made with Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon and he said it was quite good. ($13). For food; I had the Rooster Royale which was a fried chicken sandwich with pickles and hot honey BBQ sauce. It was $16.50, and one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! Even the bun was delicious! I'd planned on only eating half; but I ended up eating it all because it was so good. I also had the homemade chips which were yummy too. My husband had the Reuben which was $19. He said it was really tasty and full of meat. He commented that it didn't get "mushy" or fall apart. He had the crispy potatoes as his side and he raved about those too. We really enjoyed our meal at Whiskey Cake and would definitely return. The only drawback I can think of is that they don't seem to have very many healthy lo-cal options.

First I have to commend Christina, who was our server. A table of eight, she managed us with such grace, professionalism, and outstanding service! With a constant smile on her face, she asked us open questions and was very attentive. Not once did I have to ask for an iced tea refill because she was staying on top of it! The menu, though short with options did have a creative variety. We all tried the cinnamon roll, which I have to say was beyond, and I do mean beyond outstanding. In fact, it was the best cinnamon roll I have ever had with the toasted pecans and the sauce. WOW!! I ended up with the pancakes and eggs, and the eggs were cooked perfectly! The pancakes were were thick and had good flavor. It was a little overcooked for what I prefer, but overall, it was very good. Looking at the other options of what friends were having the food looked amazing. I am not a bacon eater, but one of our table mates had a bacon dish that she said was phenomenal. I will definitely be back

The signage can't be seen from the road. We walked in and the place looked deserted which almost made me turn around but I committed to following my first mind. Our server didn't speak English very well but it was well enough to understand and when she spoke Spanish it was slow enough for me to understand so we were good. The ambiance kept making me think of Coco for some reason but it was a vibe. I love that they aren't the typical Mexican restaurant with chimichangas and speedy Gonzales and all that mess on their menu. They sell what they'd serve their families, served on beautiful ceramic dishes and you can taste the love in the food. I ordered the horchata, my drink of choice. It was delicious. I only know 2 other businesses in town who make it right. My son has a Mexican Coke and water. The salsa was fresh and perfect. I loved how thin the chips were. For dinner, I ordered the enchiladas de mole and all I can say if you like/love mole, you should try them. My son ordered the birria tacos. This was his first time trying birria and he enjoyed them. Their tortillas are homemade, tender and delicious; which makes this restaurant top tier in my book. As a lover of Al Pastor, I couldn't leave without placing an order of pastor tacos to go. By the time our food came out, others started coming in for dinner. I guess we just got there a little early. Before we left, there was a good amount of patrons there and more pulling up. I was stuffed by the time I made it home but I tried a piece of one when I got home and that's lunch for me today. lol. They are delicious. I ate my leftover enchiladas for breakfast this morning. The only thing I didn't like how the menus didn't have prices but the prices are reasonable. We'll definitely return. I can't wait to try something else.
