I never been and was unfamiliar with the flavors and the lady was so sweet and let me try a flavor. I stayed to just getting the wings for now but there were lots of other food items I plan to go back and try. I did have to wait a while for the wings because they make them fresh so I wasn't complaining. By the time I got home, put groceries away, the wings still had a good crunch and flavorful. The galbi sauce is sweet, kinda reminds me of sweet and chili without the chili. The restaurant looked like they had a crowd before I walked in but the host was keeping it clean while I was looking for through the menu. As a certified Korean fried chicken lover, I had to check out bb.q Chicken -- and the crunch did not disappoint. The chicken was fried to absolute perfection: crispy, light, and everything you want when you bite into KFC (the Korean kind, of course). I tried the Honey Garlic flavor this round, and while it was tasty, the flavor didn't hit as hard as I hoped. I was waiting for that big, bold, explosive bite, and instead got more of a gentle sweetness. Good... just not "wow." That said, the technique here is on point, and the menu has plenty of other flavors calling my name. Bright, open and clean. We were the only customers on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30. Service was great. We were seated right away. Drink orders were taken and brought quickly. Then food order was placed and delivered in a timely manner. We ordered the golden fried chicken, white rice, pickled radish, and a side of the Gangnam sauce. The chicken was fried to perfection. My husband and I lived in Korea for a few years and ate Korean friend chicken at least once a week. This was the best Korean fried chicken we have had since moving to Jacksonville. Comparing this bb.q location to the one back home in Tampa, it's quite different. The breading isn't the same, though the crunch was still there. I ordered the original hot spicy and while it was good, it didn't have the same spice kick I'm used to. The service was friendly, but our order was incorrect. We requested boneless chicken for one order and received bone-in wings instead. It didn't feel worth the extra wait and hassle to have it corrected. The French fries were disappointing. At our usual location, the fries are incredibly crunchy and addictive, but here they were very plain. Decatur more to takeout rather than customers coming in sitting down and having something to eat my experience was they put me in the mind of a McDonald's or a Burger King but not a serious restaurant the menu was very sparse. I kept trying to figure out what flavor I was getting and by the end I think it was almost an apple cider taste. My wings came out and they were big, meaty and covered in a sticky sweet sauce. I love KFC aka Korean Fried Chicken! So I was so excited when I BBQ chicken opened here in Jacksonville! Place was not busy when we came in so we were seated right away. We ordered the Soy Garlic wings, the Secret sauce half chicken, steamed rice and pickled radish. Our orders were served fast and hot! Now for the taste! To say I was disappointed was an understatement :( I had high expectations but the flavors came out flat. The batter was too thick and the sauces were not as good as a KFC would taste like and we have tried so many places that served them, and I would say BBQ Chicken's version is at the bottom of the pack.The picked radish was good though. This Korean fried chicken franchise has made its way to Jax! For a weekend lunch we ordered four flavors of wings, regular fries, sweet potato fries, cheesling fries, and cole slaw. Our online order was ready right at the estimated time and the order was correct. Everyone's favorite was honey garlic. That one seemed to have the most flavor of the ones that we tried. This was followed by the Caribbean jerk. The gangjeong didn't have the heat that we were looking for and the galbi wings had a strange taste. They didn't remind us of the traditional galbi flavor. The regular and sweet potato fries were good but soggy. A few minutes in the air fryer at home worked wonders! We wanted to taste the cheesling fries and the seasoning was interesting. I can't say it was anything that any of us would gravitate towards again. The wings were well coated in sauce and the fries were well done. Everything just needed to be a little crispier. It was my first time trying here. It is in a shopping plaza in front of Tinseltown movie theater. Inside, it's clean and spacious. There are TVs with Kpop videos playing. The service is great. There's TV's playing K-Pop music videos, makes for a nice ambience. Currently, Korean Fried Chicken is not popular here in Jacksonville. That's why I'm so excited about the whole thing. Orlando's Colonialtown has about 4 to 5 places that serves KFC but it's quite a travel just to get a craving(s) fulfilled. So what's so good about Korean Fried Chicken you may ask. Korean fried chicken recipes typically call for a lighter batter vs that of the Western version. It's a method of madness of frying the chicken twice and the outcome you get is a crispier chicken especially the skin. You'd know from the taste and texture. Is it worth a try? You betcha. Despite the drive, I have been here twice already the last two days within the last five days if that tells you anything. Their menu is pretty simple. But the best part is, BB.Q Chicken offers so many other flavors both in boneless choice or traditional bone-in wings. I've tried several of the flavors already. My goal is to try out the rest of the other flavors on their menu as well as try their Kimchi Fried Rice, which wasn't available at the time I have gone there. So far so good, I have been impressed. My coworker really wanted me to try this place so I did. At home I ordered the small Galbi (sweet, savory and smoky) bone-in wings with an extra side of pickled radishes and my partner ordered a small Secret Sauce (sweet, tangy, spicy) boneless wings for delivery. All those positive reviews and hype were true ! I live ~30 min away and the chicken still had a crunch and it was not battered up like other fried chickens . As expected of a proper korean fried chicken joint, they were packed up in a well ventilated paper box. No nonsense with any styrofoam or closed off container. The right way to do things. Plus we only had to drive about 10 minutes home so things were still crispy crunchy ! Service is good ya know for just ordering to go at the counter. No complaints there. They were nice ! We knew exactly what we wanted to order. A small little place most likely won't dine in maybe with friends to share a drink. FLAVORS !!!!! Exactly what i was dreaming of. Ambience is okay, service is okay.. but the FOOD is INCREDIBLE!! The wings are so tender and big and juicy!! They are perfectly crispy and stayed so fresh and crunchy on the 15 minute drive home!! I absolutely love the sauce for the spicy galbi; it is sweet and savory and spicy and oh so satisfying; exactly what I wanted! My girlfriend got the cheesling and they were also great; cheesy with a complex savory flavor! They do not skimp on sauce and dry rub here!! I know some people are saying that the service is slow, but in my opinion the food is well worth the wait, and wings do usually take a little bit so I can't complain! Update: We came back and super glad we did. The inside was clean, bright, and there's a bar area with stools. Not alot of seating inside but we found a table during lunch time on a random Sunday. Our waitress Ivy was nice, friendly, and fast with her service. The staff that day was friendly. We had the following: Spicy chicken wings - 7/10 - I loved the spice on this! It was perfectly spicy, crunchy, and paired so well with the radish and side of rice. Keep in mind that there is a difference between the original spicy and spicy. The original spicy doesn't have a wet sauce on it nor is it coated. Soy garlic wings - 8/10 - this one was very flavorful and it was like a POW of flavor explosion. You can taste the soy and garlic flavors very distinctively. As soon as I took a bite, my eyes got wide because of all the flavors happening in my mouth. It was salty, crunchy, and garlicky and we both enjoyed this flavor very much. More than the spicy one. I usually go to bonchon or domu for their KFC but bbq, hands down, the best Korean fried chicken that I've had so far in Jax. The chicken wings (you can get boneless, wings, half chicken, or even a whole chicken) were fried to perfection and every bite, was crunchy and crispy. I loved the batter that they used on them! The wings came with a side of white, pickled radish and the acidity definitely helps cut down the grease and heaviness of the wings. I do wish that they would serve kid sizes because each order comes with 8 wings and they were big!! Not that I'm complaining haha but I wasn't hungry that day and wished they served wings in a 4 pack or something. I would suggest getting a side of rice or something to go with your wings. After eating the third wing, I grew kind of a little tired of the monotonous flavor and wanted to something to go along with it. Talk about doing one thing and doing it well...The skin is crunchy, but practically melts on your tongue. Kind of like a Pop Rock, but without all that annoying effervescence. The wing meat was piping hot and tender. I got the Galbi wings: the aforementioned perfect wings tossed in the classic sweet and smoky Korean sauce and finished with green onions and sesame seeds. I came here while visiting town for work, and I really wanted to love this place. Leann was amazing, with exceptional service. The food came out piping hot, which was a plus, and it was actually cooked to order. However, the wings are so giant I almost felt I was eating turkey wings. I almost choked twice while eating one time from a piece of broken bone in the chicken, and the second time there was a piece of wire material in my food like it came from a scrubbing pad. When I brought it to their attention, they just simply said oh I'm sorry about that. Needless to say, I just stopped eating and didn't even take it to go. I finally tried bb.q today for lunch. I got the Spicy Galbi flavor wings small (bone-in 8 wings) and an order of the Beef Bulgogi over rice and I had a sweet tea for my beverage. I regret getting the Beef Bulgogi a little, because I forgot to ask to leave out the broccoli. It wasn't large pieces, but chopped up, so it required a lot of maneuvering around them. Over all, I think I should have gotten the kimchi fried rice instead of that. I think comparing theirs to Bonchon's Beef Bulgogi fried rice, Bonchon wins. They're both around $14.00. The service was fine as business picked up as it got closer to noon while I was eating. They were attentive and checked on me a couple of times. The wings were not very spicy to me, but they were crispy and the flavor was good. The environment was laid back and was fine. Not too loud. My main complaint is just the usual high prices of wings these days. I really doubt anyone paying attention believes "supply chain issues" are a valid excuse anymore. They went up during c0vid and haven't come back down, so that just means businesses are keeping the prices high intentionally. I would like to try getting a whole bird one day to share. One thing I've noticed about these Korean Chicken chains is that in Korea, they'd offer gloves to wear, but over here they don't. If they and Bonchon could lower their prices, I'd go more often. So I didn't try the chicken which seems to be more so what they're known for (hence the name) but I tried their Ddeok-Bokki and their Rose Ddeok-Bokki and it was absolutely delicious! The Rose one had a sweetness to it while the other one had a really nice Smokey and spicy flavor. The rice cakes were incredibly tender and big! The tofu skin (which I'm usually not a fan of) soaked up all the spices and was really good. I placed my order for pick up and got a text that it was ready which was great.
