What I thought was a whole chicken, turned out to be some sort of chicken the hispanic community buys for soups or stews. I baked it and threw it out it was so nasty. I called the corporate office and was told it was not a roasting chicken. How was I to know. Their chicken wings still have feathers on them here and there, again Nasty! They buy their chickens from a farm somewhere in Georgia I believe but the safety of shipping chickens is very important. Once I bought what they said was Mayport shrimp, previously frozen. After opening the package the odor was too strong, which tells me the shrimp is not edible and can be dangerous. If you demand quality, Publix is still the best choice. The staff is totally oblivious. They cannot answer any questions, they will also tell you the same story.."we are expecting a truck anytime now, sorry we ran out" Same line over and over. Guess they are trained to lie to their customers to keep them coming back. I bought eggs, several had two yolks, sorry but that's weird to me. Threw them out as well. The crowds are out of control, they do not care if they block the very small isles, if they push and grab, they are mostly foreign customers as I have noticed the meat, vegetables and fruits are more geared to their culture. That's fine but train your staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. I also find the parking lot littered with trash at times, especially in the grassy areas. Not a class act for sure!

It also came with 3 sides. Since I'm a rewards member, they let me have an extra 2 pounds of Marinated chicken. All that fed my family dinner cheaper than taking them all out to eat. $59, I find their meat to have a more of a flavourful profile than grocery stores.. They offer great service and so many specialty flavours in their marinates.

They are conveniently located down the road from NAS Jax on Roosevelt, which is prime location for a business specializing in all things meaty. First off, I love the layout of their salesfloor, everything is situated so that there's ample room to meander and scope out the goods and offerings. They have it ALL, and I mean everything you can think of. The variety of meats is something to behold, and it's easy to see that quality comes first. Tasty kabobs, steaks, briskets, wings, sausages, sides, you name it, they've got you covered. There's also a vast array of sauces, seasonings, local beers, Florida chips and snacks to put on a party fit for any grill enthusiast. I grabbed 2 containers of "Smash Taters" (take-n-bakes are buy 1, get 1 on Tues and Wed), a half-pound of the Korean Bulgogi Steak Tips, and a Bacon Cheddar Burger Patty to cook up for dinner tonight. Southern Steer Butcher will no doubt find success here in Jacksonville, and if you haven't stopped in to see them yet, then you definitely should. The management and sales staff that I met welcomed me with open arms and were more than helpful, so a big kudos goes out to all of them! Till next time, my fellow Yeeps, support your local eats and businesses, and as always...SYOY!

We tried another butcher, but the smell was so overwhelming that we left. We found Carroll's through a google search. The store was easy to find on Pearl street. The parking lot is small, but we were able to find parking no problem. The inside was clean with a better smell than the last store we went to. My mom was able to find the boiling meat she wanted, and we got some nice cuts of bacon and drumsticks/wings for a great price. I was really happy with the prices, and the meat looked very fresh. The service was also top notch. The cashier was very nice and even gave us some ideas on preparing the meats we selected. I like this place a lot and would happily come back to get some more cuts of meat.

The parking lot is small but sufficient, and the interior looks and smells like serious butchering happens. If you aren't greeted with an enthusiastic hello and smile, then wipe that frown off your face. Everyone has to eat and they have a well-rounded selection of cuts. Their freezer specials are solid bargains. They will do their best to accommodate special requests. They have come through on a number of occasions. They take plastic but not Amex.

We always have great chats and I feel as though we are best friends even though I don't come in as much as I'd love to. It is super cute and clean inside. There are so many great options! Great place to get a welcome home board for a friend or maybe bring an apt to a dinner. We grab cheeses and sometimes meats to have for dinner in the park very often! I lived in France and this store brings me so much joy as I simply can't get back to France often enough. I highly recommend checking them out.

I finally visited for the first (and not the last) time recently for a private tasting event with fellow folks from the Junior League. The two women working -- including Jennifer, the owner -- were easy to talk with and super informative about the four cheeses they served us, which ranged from a Brie to a Comte. I love cheese. I love expensive, funky cheese, and I also love cheap, mild cheese (and everything in between). But I know enough about cheese -- well, I've eaten enough cheese, at least -- to tell these were excellent cheeses provided by someone who really wants locals to enjoy them. The shop itself is lovely, carrying not just cheeses but some meats and plenty of other selections you may want for a charcuterie board (or your own midnight snack)...spreads, honeys, crackers, and more. They also have some French butters, ready-to-beat baguettes, and even some homewares like beautiful wooden service items, mini fondue pots, and cheese slicers. This would be an excellent place to stop in for a housewarming gift, even if you're not looking to gift something edible. But also, consider gifting something edible. Who doesn't want good cheese? And I haven't taken advantage of it yet, but I will soon: the shop offers trays and boards ranging from "snack for 2" to "large party" if you give them notice. Also, "snack for 2" might become my new go-to lunch.
