First time I have visited 4 rivers smokehouse. I ordered the brisket and burnt-ends. Excellent taste and I will be back!

Best BBQ in Jacksonville. Period. In my 6 week trip to Jax, I sought out some BBQ joints. Now, I'm no connoisseur, I am not from an elite BBQ region and I know that Jacksonville is not a BBQ go to area. But that said, I tried a few places in the region and 4 Rivers is the only spot I'd repeat visit. Service is friendly and prompt, and they were helpful with putting me on their best items. The brisket was moist, tender and flavorful. The ribs? To die for. Best I've had in Florida. The burnt ends are a combination of brisket and pork, which compliments one another nicely. I loved the beans! The corn was the only thing I found lacking, tasted too much like canned corn for my taste. Their nice seating area is big and welcoming and they have numerous sauces for you. I ordered 4 Rivers for catering for the first time yesterday. The driver brought the food on time and in a hot box. He unloaded the trays and set them up for me. The food smelled amazing. People kept poking their heads in the room saying they could smell it when they got off the elevator. All of the food looked good. I made my own little food name cards to go in front so people knew what they were looking at. I do prefer when caterers provide those name cards. I will say that 4R did write what each thing was on the top of the lids, so I knew what it was prior to opening them. We got: salad, cornbread, pulled pork, Texas sausage, beef brisket, vegan burnt ends, mac and cheese, baked beans, and banana dream pudding. Salad looked good and came with all the toppings and 2 dressings. The cornbread looked and tasted amazing. 10/10 Everyone loved the pulled pork. By far the favorite. The Texas sausage smelled amazing. The beef brisket wasn't how I expected. The top layer looked fine, but the layers underneath were sitting in grease and looked to have a ton of fat on them. I've never had beef brisket before, so I'm unsure if that's normal. But to me, it didn't look good. The vegan burnt ends were so good. I actually questioned if it was actually meat (I don't eat pork anymore). I even had someone try it and only told them it was burnt ends and they didn't notice it wasn't meat. 10/10 Mac and cheese was good. Baked beans looked and smelled amazing. The banana dream pudding was 10/10 on appearance. Literally perfection; however, I tried it thinking it was regular banana pudding with extra toppings on it, but I was wrong. It almost had a lemony taste to it. I, personally, did not care for it and only had one bite. I went back and looked and it doesn't mention lemon, but it did not taste like regular banana pudding. There's something else in there, just not sure what it is. Overall, I would definitely order 4 Rivers again. They had excellent delivery, food had excellent presentation, and most of it was really good. read more

I love this spot! The past 2 times I been here I have had it to go so I didnt get to eat in the restaurant yet but their food is absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The process and inside flows well and comfortable. I liked getting the fatty brisket, its so melt in your mouth and smoky. The pulled pork is so flavorful. The Texas sausage is yummy. Love 4 Rivers! I especially love the law enforcement and military friendly environment and atmosphere! The pork and beef brisket is excellent and the sides are always outstanding! Late lunch on this location as it really is accessible off I-95 and parking is plenty. Ordered the Cowboy Combo - 2 Signature Angus Briskets and 1 Pulled Pork. Mac n' Cheese and Sweet Beans for the sides and they were all delicious to no surprise. Tried something new for dessert- the Chocolate Bomb! It was very creamy and yummy. I worked in the culinary industry for 16 years, and a bbq restaurant for two of those. I've never seen a bbq restaurant cut brisket over 1/4 of an inch. This was an inch plus. With the name "moist cut" it was fairly dry. So was the sausage. Gathering the chicken ordered came from the back from a sham. I assume the sausage and brisket have been sitting to serve under a lamp or in a hot well. The Mac and cheese sauce was broken due to heat. In addition it was apparent the staffs biggest concern was closing. Which is not an issue till the quality of the shift suffers. Food looking low quality, and the appearance of closing over service shows. My kids grill cheeses were not full melted. I honestly don't feel the need to express these issues on my first visit into a restaurant due to it is apparent this standard is something the whole team carries. And I don't have to come back due to my opinions. BUT, as we were leaving and my son needed to use the restroom. The bathrooms were left unattended, fully scrubbed which customers were there, and the soap suds left to go down the drain. No wet floor sign, and the cleaning caddy out with needed implements and cleaning products just out and sitting. Again emphasizing the want to leave. read more

Walked in an immediately knew I had arrived at the right place for dinner! Although there was only 1 person in the huge restaurant, we stayed and ordered. Before long the diners arrive, filling the inside and outside tables. The Loaded Spud was Delilah! Brisket sandwich, okra, baked beans, and pulled pork sandwiches were devoured. i'm bummed. i really wanted to like this place. i'd heard AMAZING things about the caramelized, juicy, barky burnt ends & wanted to try them badly... i ordered a 2+2 of burnt ends & brisket (i selected "moist", as i always do since i literally can't eat food if it's dry). the brisket was probably pretty good for some people. it had decent flavor... but my order was clearly not "moist" at all (pic below). the burnt ends were a total disappointment. i was so ready for those gooey, crispy, flavorful bites... & i got chunks of lean brisket w/ZERO bark/burnt stuff (they're called "burnt" ends!), almost no fat- so no caramelized collagen "meat candy"... just "ok" brisket that was too dry for me to enjoy (& all that dry food arrived with 2 tiny packets of BBQ sauce). i hope my experience was some kind of mistake & not their normal food... but i won't be ordering the burnt ends off of goldbelly like i'd been considering read more

this place is awful. they are SLOWWWWWW. the food is nasty. there is absolutely no reason as to why a togo order that was placed 30 minutes prior to my arrival isn't ready when i get to the store. and yet i STILL have to wait for the order for an ADDITIONAL 20 minutes. the employees are so beyond slow it's ridiculous. i won't be returning to this place. food was awful. staff is slow. the portions have gone down in size. there is no reason it takes an HOUR for a togo order when the place IS NOT BUSY. read more

This is a review for their chocolate chip cookie only. I have really enjoyed the turkey and veggie sides here like green beans, corn, cornbread, their fried okra is amazing and seasoned perfectly! Highly recommend trying the fried okra. Back to the cookie, my boyfriend got me the chocolate chip Cooke for my bday on a Thursday and didn't eat it until Sunday (my actual birthday) so it wasn't fresh or soft. The cookie had a harder texture than I prefer and was super chocolaty, if you love chocolate you will love this cookie! I really want to try the peanut butter one soon! This particular 4 Rivers Smokehouse is located on Baymeadows Roaf on the southside of Jacksonville, Florida. 4 Rivers Smokehouse has become a pretty recognizable name for barbecue in the Florida and I see that they expended up here to Jacksonville, Florida 4 Rivers Smokehouse started in Orlando in a tiny location and have since grown into a regional chain. That in itself is quite a success story. This particular location of 4 Rivers Smokehouse is a comfortable enough place to grab some barbecue and enjoy that particular meal. Spent some time in JAX this past week and saw this place on YELP. I'm a big BBQ fan and try to find a place every place I go. I was profoundly disappointed in 4 Rivers. I ordered a 3 meat sampler with 2 sides and the 3 side plate. I got the pulled pork, sausage and burnt ends. Pulled pork was pretty good but the burnt ends were dried out and couldn't hardly be chewed. The sausage was good but not great. I got baked beans, collard greens, green beans, corn, Mac and cheese, and corn bread. The only one worth getting again would be the corn bread but I'd not make a special trip! It's still good, but there are a few areas that have slipped in quality -- temporarily, I hope. First off, we get food from here pretty frequently (multiple times per month) and usually as takeout or delivery. Over the past few months, there has been about a 50% chance that at least one item we ordered is missing, and in a couple instances, multiple items have been missing or wrong. I do love that they have a meatless BBQ option in the vegan burnt ends, but they've been pretty dried out and tough the past couple times I've ordered them -- and a lot spicier. For my spouse, the amount of meat in an order seems to vary pretty significantly; one time, he ordered a 2x2 that I could see had less meat combined than the prior week's single order. They've also seemingly downsized the cups they use for to-go sides. Overall, I still like the food but feel like I'm paying more for less reliable quality and less quantity (and while I understand prices are going up, I don't like simultaneously paying more AND getting less). read more

I always enjoy their bbq !! For the pricing it's a lot better compared to other establishments with the same type of service. My Togo order was fast considering she was the only person working at the time, very appreciative of that. Prior to the pandemic they had a full scale bakery inside and I'm disappointed it hasn't been brought back, they do however keep a few treats in the cooler towards the front. They also offer custom cakes and do catering if needed. They have plenty of seating inside and offer outside seating as well. They also have restrooms available for their customers if needed and plenty of parking. read more

When I walked in I wasn't sure about this place but the barbecue was so flavorful and tender. The portions were well over normal size so much so that I had leftovers. We had the 3 meat combo with pull pork, turkey, pulled chicken and added an extra meat for a small price the brisket. The bake beans was full of flavor with chunks of brisket in it, we also had the fried okra and Mac and cheese. This place definitely gets 2 thumbs up when looking for barbecue. Now the young lady that was at the checkout line could have used more personality because she had no type of smile or welcoming demeanor but the food made up for it. Meals here are generally pretty good. But I recently ordered a carryout meal with fries, and when I opened the bag at home, an overwhelming odd, floral odor and taste permeated them. They were inedible. (That's typically a sign of food fried in rancid oil.) I couldn't make the 5-mile trip back to the restaurant, so I just reported the matter in the private feedback section of the 4Rivers main web page. Shortly after, I received a boilerplate "we're sorry you were disappointed" response, and a request for my home address where they would send me a gift card for my "next visit." There won't be a next visit. Because the card I received is perhaps the greatest compensation insult since Clark Griswold's jelly-of-the-month-club. read more

As a BBQ fanatic I can't believe I haven't been here before. Finally, I had the pleasure of dining at 4 Rivers! I usually opt for brisket but I changed it up and tried the burnt ends which are a pre mix of beef and pork. Seeing I got the platter, I was able to choose 3 sides! I doubled up on mac and cheese and for my third, I choose green beans. The platter comes with your choice of a dinner roll or jalapeño cornbread and, of course, I chose the jalapeño cornbread. The burnt ends were very tender, the BBQ sauce was sweet, but a little bit tangy. The mac and cheese was incredibly creamy and comforting, and these are the best green beans I have ever had... they are rich and juicy! I truly enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread, it was not dry, and you could definitely taste the jalapeño! Note: As the weather is getting warmer, I am always on the lookout for a nice patio so we sat outdoors. Best BBQ ever! Burnt ends are on point! Every time we get food there, it is well prepared and super tasty.

Always enjoy this bbq restaurant. I usually order the turkey sandwich with slaw on top but I tried the macaroni bowl topped with chicken and slaw but no extra toppings. It was surprisingly great and enjoyed all the calories that came with it. I always order from to go menu on the phone and pickup and eat in the restaurant. The app is hard to navigate and have left many times frustrated. I do recommend the food and barbecue. read more

Was so VERY disappointed. We sat in our booth and my entree was served. Almost 5 minutes later my son's entree was brought. By this time my food and his sides are cold. Then there were the gnats. Yes gnats! Thick. We moved booths (which we had to carry our own food, silverware, etc.). Again gnats. I then told the server that I was not going to pay for this dinner. Wow! This place knocked it out of the park! They close at 8 pm, I placed my order at 7:20 and was able to pick up for a very special celebratory meal with all the fixings. The brisket had choices of lean or not, I chose lean and it melted in the mouth with tenderness and flavorings. The baked beans also had beef and savory melds. We were craving bbq and in short - it hit the spot. Everyone was happy lol. Meat was flavorful, tender, fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, Smokey.. all the good things bbq meat can offer. The sides did not disappoint either. I was trying to limit my carbs but dang that Mac & cheese was so good! lol. Even my son's fries were seasoned and fried to perfection. I think you get a really good deal with their meat combos if you wanna try a little bit of everything. Only downside is that you don't get to choose ribs or anything with "bone". Still worth it though! Fast service. Clean. Would definitely return. read more
