In fact, service is the entire foundation of this veteran-owned restaurant. Active duty military, vets, and first responders are the focus, which is reflected in the decor: patches, fire helmets, military challenge coins, and flags adorn most of the walls. The food is very reasonably priced and of very high quality. The pulled pork was my favorite: moist bits and shreds of delicious porcine pleasure. The wide selection of sauces at every table are barely needed as this is high quality 'cue, with just the right balance of bark and moist. The jalapeño cheese sausage was another winner, best I've had since Kreuz Market in Lockhart TX. Another winner were the greens, which were so flavorful that vinegar was no longer necessary. Our feast was rounded out by some succulent moist brisket, which was too flavorful to be sauced. In terms of other sides, kudos to the beans and excellent slaw. This was my second time trying Mission BBQ. I ordered takeout and got the half chicken meal with mac and cheese and baked beans. This is probably top 3 best BBQ chicken meals I've ever had! The chicken was SO flavorful and moist, I didn't want to stop eating. I'm normally a dark meat gal as I can't stand the dryness and texture that often comes with breast, but even the breast was succulent and juicy! So tasty, absolutely delicious. The collection of sauces to choose from is a great touch. The baked beans were also fantastic, great flavor with brisket chunks in them, and the mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy and satisfying. This was really a 5/5 meal and the pickup process was easy. I have been dreaming about that chicken; I absolutely will be back. read more

The food is delicious! This is my first time visiting the one in Jacksonville and it's very consistent to the other one I've been to. I tried the ribs this time and while they didn't look super tender, my eyes deceived me! They were tender, and the flavor is fantastic. I love that you have different sauces to select from as well. I have a gluten allergy and the person at the counter taking my order was knowledgeable and the business has a gluten-free menu. Just about everything is available gluten-free by the way. I hardly ever can have french fries and these are top notch. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. I love the military decor. We sat at a high table and the seats are comfy. I usually grab takeout from here every now and then when my boyfriend is craving BBQ. My last visit was on 12/19/24 so this review is a bit overdue but definitely worth sharing. I ordered him the Brisket BBQ Sandwich with fries and got to the restaurant around 6:15 pm for pickup. One of the ladies at the register told me the food was ready but I'd need to wait about 5 minutes since they make the fries fresh at pickup to keep them hot. I appreciated that but what was supposed to be a quick 5-minute wait turned into 20 minutes and not because they were busy. While I was standing there I watched one of the girls take a batch of fries, put them on a plate, then move them into a to-go box, take them back out, put them on another plate and then repeat the process all over again. I assumed the fries were for a dine-in order at first but it quickly became clear that wasn't the case. Meanwhile the other staff were just filling sauce cups, cutting cornbread and cleaning. No one seemed to notice I was still standing at the counter. I was actually on the phone with my boyfriend the entire time and when someone finally acknowledged me I looked at my phone and saw I'd been standing there for 20 minutes. The same girl who kept messing with the fries came up and asked if I was waiting for something. I told her I'd been waiting for the fries and she said, "Oh I didn't know they were for you," then handed me the same fries that had been sitting there for at least 15 minutes. Not hot or fresh at all. At that point I was so frustrated I just took them and left. She did end up asking her manager for a "Free Sandwich" coupon to make up for it which I appreciated. But honestly I'm not sure how I feel about going back. The customer service was pretty disappointing and the coupon only covers the sandwich, not a side, so I'd actually end up spending more money since my boyfriend wouldn't eat the sandwich without fries. read more

On 08/21/25 after driving my daughter to move in day at FSU, my wife and I stopped at our local Town Center location before going home. The food was delicious but what really made it stand out was the staff. While eating, a torrential downpour started. I'm not sure if he was a manager or not but an employee (and I'm sorry I can't remember his name but I'm thinking James) gathered an umbrella and walked my wife out to our car. Went with the family for dinner & had the best customer service ever! My toddlers were acting up and a worker (possibly the manager) came up to us and offered Mac n cheese for the kids. We were looking for a quick lunch that would be tasty and although we actually headed to the Town Center for Mexican we saw Mission BBQ and decided to see if the food was good. My first impression wasn't good because I hate to go through a line to order and then wait to get your food. We both ordered a chopped brisket sandwich. I ordered corn casserole and he got baked beans. After the first bite of the sandwich we looked at each other and said this isn't good. The meat was chewy and hard to eat, the bun was cold and the sauce was poured on but it didn't seemed to have any taste without it. Corn casserole was very disappointing. I would describe it as dough with corn kernels but not a lot of taste. I love their "mission" and I wanted to love their food but I would never go back. I love a good bbq and judging by how many times I've gone out of my way to eat lunch here, this is a good bbq place. I get it, it's a chain and might have its detractors as a result but wow, this place is legit. The brisket (my litmus test for any BBQ joint) is spectacular and available in either a chopped or sliced serving. Both excellent. Smoky and not dried out, tender, easy to enjoy. Yum. And the sides? I recommend the baked beans. This is a veteran owned enterprise and I'm always happy to support businesses like this. You will see a lot of police officers, law enforcement and essential professionals eating here. Every day at noon they drop everything and lead the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance. I am not a fan of BBQ but when the rest of my group suggested we go to Mission BBQ for lunch, I went along. I am soooooo glad I did! I loved it! I ordered a salad and added pork. I also got a side of fries. The salad was huge, almost too huge, I could have just ordered a side salad and it would have been plenty. It was plain, I think it was just lettuce, tomato and cucumber, shredded carrots. The pork...oh it was good! It was a huge helping of pork. Plenty of sauce to choose from on the table. I really am so glad I added the pork. The serving of fries was also so large that I couldn't finish them. They too were great! At noon, The Star Spangled Banner played and everyone in the restaurant stood with their hand on their hearts. The work crew all stopped too while it played. It was truly a nice touching tribute. I was really impressed by Mission BBQ. My partner and my brother decided to meet her around 6pm on a Tuesday night. There was no one else in the restaurant. You order at the counter and they will call your order and go pick it up, which happened really fast. First off their prices for what you get cannot be beat. I got the pulled chicken platter for $8.99 and I got cornbread plus a side (green beans) and a drink. I also got a side salad with Italian dressing. Their portion of the chicken was really generous. Their chicken is some of the best I have ever eaten. It was so soft, melt in your mouth tender, Smokey and you could taste the salt seasoning. Their green beans were ok for me, while tasty their was too much liquid it was sitting in and very soft. Still tasty though. Their Italian dressing for the salad had the right tanginess. Not only did they apologize and offer me an alternative item. He let me sample multiple items, gave me extra food and then another lady came from the back and comp'd my entire order. I was in shock! I used to go there but it was a hit or miss experience. I recently tried it again while at the Town Center southside. The Turkey sandwich was really good though they were out of slaw. Slaw is vinegar based so I would not have ordered it. I would recommend do try it while d as shopping in the area. read more

Walked in just now to order a BBQ sandwich with 2 sides and a drink . I was told it was about $20. I laughed and said no I am just here for lunch. I was told that it is an full 6 ounces of meat. Wow a whole 6 ounces LOL. Saw the side portions were little ice cream scoop size sides, 3 bites max, Huh? I told them thank you and walked out. Um way too pricy for a BBQ lunch. Needs to be around $13-$14 with 8 ounces of BBQ and sides that fill a small bowl. No table service. $20 for a lunch you stand in line to order cafeteria style. Huh? I know town center rents are ridiculous but come on mission. Sell the useless mission military trucks and lower prices will ya? Better yet move to a less expensive location and lower prices. Seriously this was 4 bites of food. How a place like this stays in business selling this awful food is a mystery to me. The comparison between this place and bearded pig is laughable. I have been craving for bbq specifically Mission bbq LOL . Mission bbq has different location and We went to the one located at the town center. Plenty of parking and easy to locate. Went here around 11:30 on a Friday, They weren't busy yet when we were there but once we start eating the lunch crowd starts coming. I love how Mission bbq has shown their support to the US Military and it all of its branches, Also i love that they do the pledge of allegiance every 12pm. I always order the regular sausage and their string beans..... ooohhh just thinking about it makes me want some!! their string beans is cooked with bacon and the taste is so good! the sausage has always been perfect to me! corn bread here is great too! I inhaled everything I ordered to fast, the only disappointment was the banana pudding. I've been to several Mission BBQ restaurants and honestly thought I had given a review. It is definitely a 5 star BBQ joint. It's a self service type restaurant. You place your order, grab a drink and find a table. When your name is called you pick up your order. Our meals came out quickly and were hot and delicious. I had pulled chicken and a side of green beans and my husband had ribs, green beans and coleslaw. Both meals came with a slice of cornbread. All the BBQ sauces are excellent...there are 16 different types so I feel like they offer a sauce for all types of people. I like the NC vinegar sauce and the Georgiaah Mustard! sauce best. My husband likes a sauce that is spicy! He used the Florida Gator Bite with some added hot sauce. We both had unsweetened tea and you could tell it was freshly brewed! The military ambiance is probably my favorite part about mission BBQ restaurants. Every where you look you see all the various branches of our military being honored. I've been to Mission BBQ multiple times and have never been disappointed. I went again this weekend and got a special surprise. They have Alabama White BBQ sauce. I think you have to ask for it because I've never seen it before and there was a bottle on the table we selected - and the only table I saw that had it. I have not been able to find any other place in town that offers white sauce. I had the pulled chicken, with mac & cheese side. They include cornbread with the dish. I love their mac & cheese because it has a nice crust on it and they top it off with bread crumbs. The cornbread is also very good - a little bit sweet. My friend made me share it with him since his sandwich did not come with cornbread. My friend has the brisket sandwich with baked beans. The was lots of brisket so we ended up bringing about 1/2 the sandwich home. They also gave us a free dessert (sweet potato pie) for enrolling in their club. It was worth it. The crust was amazing. This is my second-best restaurant behind Texas roadhouse. Anyway, I decided to purchase some food from this particular restaurant. The service was exceptional, of course, no problems there. However, a gentleman who was wearing a disgusting "Do-Rag" that worked there apparently was assigned to refill the condiments containers. I observed him placing one rubber glove on one hand but none on the other. He then proceeded to touch the condiment containers with both hands. I informed another cashier what he was doing, however on the way out the door he continued this unsanitary action. I found this very disturbing, especially for an establishment in the food service industry. read more
