I have now followed Jane from 3 salons and I continue to LOVE the way she cuts my hair. Aside from being great at what she does, Jane is very practical and thinks about what will work best for you. I once wanted Jane to dye my hair red and she talked me out of it because it would not look good on me. The next three times I still wanted to dye my hair red, and she still kept talking me out of it. Finally, I insisted. Absolutely insisted. Jane did it. Did she complain when I wanted to change my hair back to the color that actually looked good instead of the red I wanted that she knew better and strongly advised me not to do? No, she did not. She fixed it and never said another word about it. This is just one of many examples over the years of Jane saving me from the bad decisions I want to make or fixing them after I refused to let her save me from myself. My most recent debacle was only indirectly my fault - my hair is coming out in huge, disgusting clumps after having a baby. (Yes, this is a horrible side effect of having a baby no one tells you about.) Jane was able to make my hair look so cute that I actually got compliments on it at work today. You can't even see the two disgusting bald spots. I also love the online appointment feature. Its 9 pm, I just now remembered I need to make a hair appointment. Will I remember to call in the morning? No! I will not! And I won't remember again until 9 pm the following night, when it is also too late to call. Now I can just go online and make an appointment. I've recommended her to many people I know, and she now has all my girlfriends as clients! She is incredibly gifted in cutting my thick, hard to manage hair; and, a master at coloring. Her customer service is amazing - Last week I was crunched for time, so she recruited an extra stylist to blowdry my hair at the same time as her, so that I could leave quickly, with a blow dry! Crystal Vasquez has been working her magic on my hair in Raleigh, NC for many years. When she told me she was moving to Chicago I was so excited for her, but very sad for me. Not to toot my own horn, but my hair looks FANTASTIC! :) Everyone was really welcoming and friendly! Deanna is beautiful and was a lovely to talk to! I always feel kind of shy at first, so I really appreciated that she made conversation with me. I went in with hair almost all the way to my butt and left with a bouncy fresh style that sways SO nicely when I walk. I went in open to her recommendations. First, she actually did the cut I'd initially asked for, but when I asked for her honest opinion, she made really great suggestions on how it could be nicer and more stylish. Visited the salon for the first time yesterday for a haircut with Krista. I was really impressed - and my hair looks fabulous! I've been going to the same stylist for 8 years. And she's great - very nice and very competent. However, I decided to try another salon for a couple of reasons. First, my stylist moved to a different salon that wasn't very convenient in terms of location and frankly, it was kind of a crappy salon. It always seemed empty and the salon itself was drab and shabby. Second, as much as I liked my stylist, I always felt like my haircuts looked exactly the same every time I went, regardless of the look I was going for. I could show her 10 different pictures of cuts/styles I liked and I swear I walked out every time with the same haircut I've had for years. Now, that wasn't all bad because I liked my cut and I thought it usually looked pretty good - I guess I just felt like I was in a rut. So I nervously made the decision to cheat on her. Enter Lavender Park. I have driven and/or walked by the salon many times since it's opened. It always looked bright, cheery, and busy. I researched it and found the salon received extremely positive reviews. So I decided to give it a shot and I went with Krista (based on positive reviews that she specifically had received). I'm pleased as punch about my decision and I'll tell you why. First, they have an online reservation system. I love that. It's so convenient to be able to make online reservations where you can check your schedule in that moment versus going back and forth on the phone with a receptionist. Second, the salon is so clean and calming. It's painted a soft white with wood accents - and has a lovely little coffee/drink bar. You feel relaxed as soon as you walk in. Third, and most importantly, I really liked Krista and what she did with my hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted to do - and low and behold, my hair actually looked like the picture when I left! She understood what I was going for and she even took the time to demonstrate for me how to curl my hair to get that loose wave/bohemian look. It may not sound like that big of a deal, but I definitely appreciated feeling like she listened to what I wanted and ran with it! I no longer feel like I'm in a hair rut! I have been going to Katie for over 5 years across 3 different salons. She does an excellent job for men's haircuts. They probably do great work for women's cuts too. She actually talks about what you want and if you are unsure talks you through a few things and between the two of you you come up with a fantastic haircut. She is also very nice and personable. I can't believe I haven't yet posted a review of Lavender Park, but I wanted to chime in here after getting yet another terrific haircut and great customer service from Jane. I have lots of really difficult to manage fine and curly hair that, over time, has changed its pattern on only certain sections of my head, so that in some spots it's quite curly, while in others it's nearly straight. To make matters worse, it seems to respond strangely to color, so that sometimes it sucks up highlighting treatments and looks much brighter in some spots than others. Over the past few years, Jane has done a terrific job, not only in cutting my hair, but in graciously doing touch ups or tweaks to the treatments I've gotten (keratin, highlights) when my hair responds in unexpected ways. Not only that, she's super quick to respond to e-mail questions, both about the services I've received (if I have questions about maintenance) or even about the products that she's used when I've come in for haircuts. Finding a good stylist is always difficult, but finding someone who can handle hard to manage curly hair seems nearly impossible, so I'm really grateful that I found Jane after a pretty long search in Chicago. read more

I have been going to Katie for two years or more, for both cut and blonde highlights. I found them after searching for salons with Davines products. I am pretty exacting about how I want my highlights done (super fine and natural looking), and I can never figure out how to describe the layers I envision for my hair. But Katie is so chill and professional, she quickly and patiently figured it/me out. Within two or three visits we had it down to a science. The prices are reasonable for Chicago, and the quality of the service actually matches it. After relocating to Chicago from Miami about nine years ago, I could not believe how expensive salons are here, and how often the quality of service did not match the price. I would get so anxious trying a new salon and wondering how much money I would waste for a lackluster haircut or really crappy highlight. Not so with Lavender Park. I am always happy after my visits, and now I only get anxious about ever having to replace Katie if she moves or retires. (She's young and a co-owner, so this is not a rational fear.) :) read more

Based off of the recommendations of other yelp reviews and the person who answered the phone when I called to book my appointment, I went with Crystal. I followed Deanne here from a men's salon. Thought I would miss some of the little touches that come with the cut. I don't miss them as much as I would Miss Deanna's work! I am not someone who wants to get their hair done every 6 weeks, so my stylist Jenna P introduced me to balayage and I love it. It makes my hair look fresh and pretty and it grows out so well. All of the stylists here seem to love what they are doing and are knowledgeable. They really have a passion for hair and for pleasing their customers. Jenna P makes me feel very comfortable when consulting and she gives me great advice on techniques and product so I can do my hair at home quickly, but still look great and not damage my hair. I really do not understand the rave reviews. The facility is small and dimly lit - not suitable. I went twice in prime time - a Saturday - and the place was pretty much empty. The fist visit was okay, okay enough to go back there in a pinch but certainly nothing to rave about. And the push for outrageously overpriced imported Italian conditioner was annoying, especially. Then on my second visit, the service was just plain bad. My consultation was, well, there wasn't one, except that Alondra very quickly asked "did we do foil or balayage last time?" (In other words, "I put in no prep work.") The only other question she asked me the whole time was "so you want some root showing". (In other words, "so you have to come back sooner.") I clearly told her no, but plenty of root showed through anyway. She rushed through the treatment to the point where substantial parts of my hair just weren't treated. It looked like I did it at home. I usually get the color subtle enough that I can go about four months before I need it done again. This time I booked a new appointment with someone new in less than six weeks. What a waste of time and money. I only gave it a second star because the color didn't come out neon. read more
