Went in for a tooth extraction. The procedure itself went well and everyone was nice at first, but things changed when it was time to discuss payment for additional work. They recommended several procedures that totaled $4,700, many of which could have been covered by insurance. It felt like they were trying to get me to pay out of pocket instead of properly working with my insurance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also waited a month so my insurance could approve a root canal, but the office never sent the prior authorization. I had to call my insurance myself and ask them to request it from the dental office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This experience was very frustrating. It felt like they were more focused on getting as much money as possible rather than helping patients. I've since gone to *Cristine Zapanta Chavez DDS*, and I highly recommend them. They are kind, gentle, and they wait for insurance authorization before doing root canals. With them, my wisdom teeth removal, root canals, and fillings were all covered by insurance, and I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket. They also try to save teeth and avoid unnecessary root canals when possible. If you want to save yourself time, stress, and money, I recommend checking them out instead. I came in as a first time patient. I just wanted a teeth cleaning but the dentist required me to pay $600 for a laser before doing the teeth cleaning. I told them I could not pay that much and if I could just get a regular teeth cleaning. They refused. Never heard of this type of practice. My experience was just awful--one mistake after another. 1. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The appointment was scheduled online for June 9th at 5 pm. The office text referenced an appointment for May 9th (yes! one month ago!) at 4 pm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 2. While they were taking X-rays, the tech pulled the cable with her leg, yanking the device I had in my mouth out of my teeth, hitting the area under my tongue, causing severe pain. 3. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I told her that I had recently undergone a complete exam and was unsure if the insurance would cover it, she said that they had already checked and it would be covered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 4. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the doctor finally came, he took a look at the X-rays for no more than 3 minutes. He asked a couple of questions and then turned his back on me while I was answering.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He checked my mouth ONLY in the area where I had the pain, which lasted another 2 minutes, and could not figure out the problem, so he suggested a CT scan and walked away. 5. The office manager then came in and informed me that the CT scan cost would be $800, and the insurance did not cover it. I told her that I only needed the CT scan for one area of the mouth, and she said that regardless of whether it's just one area of the whole mouth, the cost will be $800. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was not aware of the billing code for the CT scan she was going to charge. Then she tried to explain why I needed the CT scan for the whole mouth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At this point, I started to get the impression she was making up all that information. 6. When I told her that I was not going to pay $800 for a full-mouth CT scan, she said it was my decision and asked me to go to the front office so she could collect the $50 I owed them. I was told that the insurance would cover the exam, which for diagnostics is 100%, so why did I owe $50? [[HIGHLIGHT]]She explained that I have "frequency and limitations", which is why I did not want to get all the X-rays they took.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked her to bill me, and she told me that they cannot do that, that they were doing me a favor by billing the insurance first.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 0_0 Well, Lawndale Dental Group, your staff will no longer do me any favors ever again!
