Went in for a tooth extraction. The procedure itself went well and everyone was nice at first, but things changed when it was time to discuss payment for additional work. They recommended several procedures that totaled $4,700, many of which could have been covered by insurance. It felt like they were trying to get me to pay out of pocket instead of properly working with my insurance. I also waited a month so my insurance could approve a root canal, but the office never sent the prior authorization. I had to call my insurance myself and ask them to request it from the dental office. This experience was very frustrating. It felt like they were more focused on getting as much money as possible rather than helping patients. I've since gone to *Cristine Zapanta Chavez DDS*, and I highly recommend them. They are kind, gentle, and they wait for insurance authorization before doing root canals. With them, my wisdom teeth removal, root canals, and fillings were all covered by insurance, and I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket. They also try to save teeth and avoid unnecessary root canals when possible. If you want to save yourself time, stress, and money, I recommend checking them out instead. Ever since there has been new staff and management at Lawndale dental, , it is great! The onlay was done three years ago by a different group but, it came off the night before and the dentist and staff fit me in their schedule the very next day early in the morning to re-cement it. The wait was not long. The entire staff was very accommodating and hospitable, all the way through. They also accommodated me big time with the prices since I am on permanent disability status. I was very happy with the work that this dentist/owner did on me. He was a lifesaver and I thanked him for seeing g me in such short notice! I came in as a first time patient. I just wanted a teeth cleaning but the dentist required me to pay $600 for a laser before doing the teeth cleaning. I told them I could not pay that much and if I could just get a regular teeth cleaning. They refused. Never heard of this type of practice. Went to a different dentist paid out of pocket for a teeth cleaning and they didn't try to up-charge me. Don't go here please. read more

My experience was just awful--one mistake after another. 1. The appointment was scheduled online for June 9th at 5 pm. The office text referenced an appointment for May 9th (yes! one month ago!) at 4 pm. 2. While they were taking X-rays, the tech pulled the cable with her leg, yanking the device I had in my mouth out of my teeth, hitting the area under my tongue, causing severe pain. 3. When I told her that I had recently undergone a complete exam and was unsure if the insurance would cover it, she said that they had already checked and it would be covered. 4. When the doctor finally came, he took a look at the X-rays for no more than 3 minutes. He asked a couple of questions and then turned his back on me while I was answering. He checked my mouth ONLY in the area where I had the pain, which lasted another 2 minutes, and could not figure out the problem, so he suggested a CT scan and walked away. 5. The office manager then came in and informed me that the CT scan cost would be $800, and the insurance did not cover it. I told her that I only needed the CT scan for one area of the mouth, and she said that regardless of whether it's just one area of the whole mouth, the cost will be $800. She was not aware of the billing code for the CT scan she was going to charge. Then she tried to explain why I needed the CT scan for the whole mouth. At this point, I started to get the impression she was making up all that information. 6. When I told her that I was not going to pay $800 for a full-mouth CT scan, she said it was my decision and asked me to go to the front office so she could collect the $50 I owed them. I was told that the insurance would cover the exam, which for diagnostics is 100%, so why did I owe $50? She explained that I have "frequency and limitations", which is why I did not want to get all the X-rays they took. I asked her to bill me, and she told me that they cannot do that, that they were doing me a favor by billing the insurance first. 0_0 Well, Lawndale Dental Group, your staff will no longer do me any favors ever again! Bottom line: I left the office with more pain in my mouth than when I got there. Do I recommend this place? No! read more

STAY AWAY!!! Zero Starts! I had tooth pain and went there to see what was happening. They took x-rays, then they sat me down with some "Dentist" who started telling how the took needed to be pulled and I needed an insert, then he said that I needed root canals for two other...I was very suspicious, but I told them to give me an estimate for the cost...and of course it was thousands of dollars, and they claimed that they could not contact my insurance because they were closed, but that I could do cash...and of course, it was all BULLSHIT! I went back to a dentist that I used to go several years ago, she gave me a very honest and straight forward evaluation...all I needed was one root canal (for the took the other place claimed needed to be pulled out). Needing root canal and crowns for the other two was a disgusting lie of course. This all happened about a year ago...these ppl kept on calling me to try to get me to come in for the treatment. I was in so much pain when I arrived to my appointment. When I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted with a pleasant smile by the receptionist and Clarissa. Once I checked in, I was sent to the x-ray room for x-rays. After that, I was taken to another room for more x-rays. After that, I was greeted by Dr. Barooty who is amazing. Walking through the door for the first time at my appointment. It's a parent that everybody in this office cares. During my visits, I noticed several concerning practices led by Veronica that raised serious ethical and professional red flags. Pricing appeared inconsistent -- different customers were quoted different amounts for the same services, and there was a noticeable tendency to overcharge. When I asked for clarification, I received vague explanations and was given receipts that did not look official or itemized properly, which made the transactions feel questionable. I also observed and personally experienced judgmental treatment toward patients who have Medi-Cal or other government insurance. Those patients often seemed pressured to pay out-of-pocket or make additional payments on the spot. The approach felt more like a sales tactic than genuine patient care. Another major concern was how Veronica encouraged (and sometimes pressured) patients to leave positive Yelp reviews immediately after their visit -- even offering to write the review herself on the patient's phone in exchange for entry into a "raffle." This practice creates misleading feedback and does not accurately reflect real patient experiences. Overall, while the front desk staff and dentist deserve recognition for their excellent service, I strongly urge patients to be cautious about pricing, payment practices, and review requests. Transparency and ethical management are crucial in healthcare, and unfortunately, Veronica's behavior does not reflect that. And many will say that an apology could be given, but an apology is not necessary. I went in for a root canal. The entire process, from being referred to having the procedure, was very quick. The root canal itself took less than an hour, without compromising care or attention to detail. Dr. Barooty, with the CTC scans, was able to answer my questions with visual that really helped my understanding the situation. Dr.B and his team created an excellent experience from start to finish, and yes the cleanliness is up to par. I desperately needed a crown replaced, so they did the exam and requested approval from insurance, which took more than a month to receive, and they botched the request the first time. Once eventually received they told me they would not treat me because they don't like Medi-Cal patients. Complete incompetence. I might lose the tooth now. Steer clear of these folks.
