I was having a moment last week after consecutive days of leading returning staff orientation and professional development for our therapists before the start of the school year. I toyed with ideas of the most non nutritious food to order because I felt I deserved it. Something comforting. I decided on a Philly cheesesteak and fries. This was my first time ordering from Pappa Geno's, but I have considered it before. I was going to order from Miller's Cafe because I like theirs, but I get much more from Pappa Geno's. I like that their cheesesteaks are traditional footlong size on a soft hoagie. The Pappa Geno's steak and cheese was filled with thinly sliced steak, melted cheese and mayo. I added mushrooms to mine. They wrap it up in foil paper to keep it nice and warm. If you're really hungry, you can eat the whole thing. If not, you can eat half of it and save the other half for later. The meat was seasoned and on the moist side compared to others. I've been to both rival cheesesteak places (Geno's and Pat's) in Philly, and I thought this was a nice alternative for Houston to have. I think I still prefer the thinly sliced steak flavor from Miller's Cafe. The side of fries are crispy with almost a breading on the exterior. Same fries as Piper's Cantina, if you've ever been. I'm not that into breaded fries like these, but it was good and was a large portion. The sandwich itself is on the pricier side but a decent portion. I'd like to try their other Philly cheesesteak options or add hot oil peppers like the Wicked Philly. Pappa Geno's is a great option if you want a more authentic Philly cheesesteak fix. read more

Went through the drive thru in Jersey Village. The only way to receive service is drive thru as there is no inside dinning option. Sandwiches are pretty good. The issue is they ask for a tip from DRIVE THRU in addition to a 3% fee for using a credit card. From drive thru?? I don't recall other fast food chains asking for a tip from their drive thru. $16 dollars for a 9 inch sandwich. They also have burgers and fries, plus cheese sticks. The place has counter service and plenty of seating. The inside has an old school, diner feel with barstools and tables. The philly cheesesteaks were yummy, cheese wiz was good. We've had actual cheesesteaks from Philly, and these sandwiches were close to that level. My only gripe is the bread.
