I can't believe I ate the whole thing. This morning we stopped at the Lazy Oak, a rather large restaurant tucked away in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. There is a large parking lot located on 1 side of the restaurant offering ample parking. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We were met by the hostess upon entering and decided to dine inside. I saw 3 different dining rooms inside and a bar. So lots of seating. Our server, Alyssa was very nice and had a lot of patience with us. Thank you for that. She eventually took our order once we were ready and the food came out shortly later. I ordered a classic omelet with hashbrowns. The omelet consisted of 8 eggs. Wow!!! It was fluffy and tasted light. It took me about 30 minutes to consume all of it. Btw, Alyssa seemed impressed that I had. They may want to consider adding small table fans designed to keep flies away, as we were constantly dealing with flies while trying to eat. It was a sunny day with a light breeze, so the issue was still noticeable. I ordered the Berry Sherbet Mimosa, ( nothing special) For an appetizer, we had the beignets. They reminded me more of empanadas than traditional beignets. The green sauce was delicious, though-I would definitely recommend asking for extra sauce. The nicest part of the experience, besides our waitress, was that they recognize and honor veterans, which I really appreciated. We ordered the bacon appetizer, and the plate was completely cleaned off. It was so good. We both ordered biscuit sandwiches, and the biscuits were huge, just like you can see in the picture. They were so big that we both ended up taking the tops off and just eating the rest with the bottom biscuit, egg, and everything else. Even with that, the food was still really good. This place was recommended to us while visiting the area, and it ended up being our least favorite meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had our dog with us and asked to sit outside with her. They seated us in an area that wasn't as nice and was in the sun. We assumed this was because people with dogs might be seated separately, but we ended up seeing dogs elsewhere on the patio, too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A waitress came and started taking our drink order when another girl came up and yelled at her saying it was "her table." It was rather uncomfortable for us as the guests. The second girl who came ended up being our waitress for the rest of our time, and she did a poor job. She was friendly enough but rarely checked on us. She had our meals come out at separate times. She never offered our dog any water. All around bad service. Of course we got stuck paying the bill on the handheld device with her watching us put in the tip, which I hate. What we ordered was also disappointing. Our vanilla lattes tasted somewhat medicinal. We all had this same thought separately. Like a hospital protein shake. We tried the beignets and some shrimp and grits. The beignets were too doughy, and our shrimp and grits lacked flavor. We covered it with some hot sauce (which we had to get ourselves from another table) to help it. The shrimp in it were cooked well, but the crawfish were tough. Wouldn't order either dish again. Employees are cheerful and helpful. They are part of the reason why Lazy Oak is a beloved local restaurant. Besides huge breakfast portions the food is prepared with carefully cooked for each diner. The appetizers of the candied bacon and beignets were a miss. The giant plate the bacon was on was completely slathered in maple syrup and the beignets were undercooked. Went for Father's Day breakfast, waitress said I could order ala carte because I wasn't allowed to order the smaller kids breakfast which was fine no big deal. I asked for a side of whole wheat toast and she said they had multi grain, 1 scrambled egg and a side of bacon. The toast was legitimately miniature white bread that was burnt black on one side and so saturated with butter you could squeeze liquid from it, it was inedible. Tiniest amount of egg possible. The cap of my breakfast was the $4.00 I was charged for 2 pieces of bacon. I chose this restaurant to meet up with friends for Saturday brunch. Once seated we were greeted by our server and drink and appetizer orders were taken. Our server was nice, but seemed a little stressed. She had our large table as well as other smaller tables to attend to. It took sometime for drink orders to come out, and the kicker was that we found out there was no syrup only awhile after our food delivered to the table. Those of us that ordered meals with waffles asked for syrup and ate a portion of our food while waiting for the syrup to come out. We waited for a good while to only later be told they were out of syrup. You cannot have so many menu items that include waffles and not have syrup, then not tell your customers so that they can order something different and not waste time waiting on something they can't fully enjoy. Most of the group ordered waffles. It would have been nice to know this prior to ordering, or the manager could have easily ran to the store or sent a team member to go. We noticed other customers were given waffles and not told they were out of syrup as well. Although it was a nice atmosphere none of us are interested in returning to the restaurant. read more

We found this gem by chance in Ocean Springs. So glad we did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great ambiance, coffee, and food![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the candied bacon and it was great! Found this place on yelp and knew I had to try it. I went to the website and checked the menu and saw pictures of a dish with a whole soft shell crab on top with shrimp and crawfish. Yum! I noticed my soft shell crab was missing on top but I started digging into the huge pile of eggs looking for it and start eating. Never saw any crab so asked the waitress and she replied was it not on top? I said no. She left and a few moments later the same gentleman who delivered our food came back and said they sold out of soft shell crab and they gave me extra shrimp. I replied nicely that I was looking forward to the soft shell crab and he also replied nicely, yeah but that's why we gave you extra shrimp. No offer to change my order, a discount, maybe a dessert or anything. Why would you change up my order without informing me before hand? Definitely not how business should be handled. Don't waste your time! This place is very inconsistent with service and food quality. In town for a wedding and this was by far our worst meal experience of the entire trip. First off they advertise Bloody Mary 's on their menu and when we ordered them we were told they DO NOT have a liquor license so no Bloody Mary's. WHY is it on the menu??? We were with a large group of 8 people. We had to ask multiple times for silverware even after our food was served. We were finally given plastic silverware packets and told they didn't have any clean silverware. Seriously? The food lacked flavor and my husband's waffle was literally doughy and undercooked that he had to send it back. They ran out of potatoes and we had to wait for them to make more. No offer to discount our meal with all the mishaps that went wrong. Very overpriced for low quality food and service. Would Not recommend! read more

The candied bacon was under cooked and was just limp bacon in a plate of syrup. The food overall just wasn't up to our expectations. I ordered the shrimp grits and they were ok. This was our first visit to the restaurant, and we noticed that parking was quite crowded, likely because we arrived during brunch hours. Fortunately, we only had to wait about five minutes to be seated, and our waitress was quick to greet us. We ordered an appetizer and our main dishes, but they came out at the same time, which wasn't ideal. I thought the food was good, but my partner didn't enjoy it as much. I really liked the boudin balls since it was my first time trying them, but my partner found them too soggy inside. The shrimp and crawfish grits were tasty, but the crawfish was a bit overcooked and chewy. My husband ordered an omelet with crab, but he didn't like it. This is definitely worth a stop. We sat outside under the patio which was nice and quaint. The food came quick and was tasty. My wife really enjoyed hers. Unfortunately mine was bland and really needed some salt. After hitting it with a bit of salt and a touch of Tony Chacheres it was really good. I also wish it was all cooked a little more, the bacon was a bit underdone and the waffles were very light. Maybe that's personal preference so I don't want to be hard on them. I visited here last month on a trip to the Gulf Coast. Ocean Springs is a charming town. This gem of a place is nestled in the community of Ocean Springs. I'm very fortunate to have found this place. This restaurant is in an old home. When walking inside, it has a nice old home or historic feel to it. What a wonderful way of welcoming me back to The South! I picked a great place to have my first meal back in The South. I ordered an unsweet iced tea along with shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were delish!!! It's one of my favorite meals and they nailed it here. I'm not a big fan of white bread, however, the toast they served me was outstanding! It was great to mop up the delicious sauce with their toast. Yum! I nearly passed on dessert but was very curious to try their beignets. I ordered beignets and told myself that I would only eat a few. After eating one of them, that was a broken self-promise! They were some of the best beignets I ever had. I highly recommend ordering a side of buttermilk and powder sugar dipping sauce. It really enhances the flavor of the beignets! Loved my waitress. She was warm and had a sweet Southern Belle personality. Again, this was a perfect first meal back in The South! I would love to return here when in the Gulf-coast of MS again! Sunday brunch after early service! We arrived at 10:15. Lots of seating! We were waited on right away. Frozen peach Bellini!!! I'm going to leave that right there!! Delish!
