We arrived to LDI at 6:15 and stood in a line behind about fifteen people. Every seven or eight minutes, we crept ever so slightly forward, when one group's order seemed to be met. After speculating with line-mates about the executive functioning skills of the staff, we eventually arrived at the counter at 6:50, when we submitted our order. And for our patience, we were rewarded not with food, but with ... a buzzer. "Your order will be ready in 45 minutes." We were free to go somewhere else for a little while (and the surrounding area is gorgeous), but not before the hard close of the place, which might be 7:30, in which case we would have paid for this food we never got. So, let's review. It's a take-out place with maybe six things on the menu. It took nearly 40 minutes of standing around to simply record "two veggie burgers, two lobster rolls." And then another 45 minutes to prepare? Ninety minutes to get food at a take-out place? I get that you want to put the lobster roll on a freshly toasted bun, but that's about all the "cooking" involved here. Why would it take this long? It was good food and there are much worse places to wait, but sauced with the inane production time, it was hard to avoid the bitter taste. If you're into giving 1.5 hours for something you could make as well at home in a fraction of the time, for a fraction of the price, you should definitely go here! read more

After five days and as many lobster rolls in the area, LDI's was unquestionably the best. It's perhaps a bit smaller and more expensive than others but the lobster is SO perfectly cooked, minimally dressed w melted butter, and in a standout buttery roll to boot. We also loved the cod cakes and the haddock chowder. The setting right on the water at the base of the stunning LDI bridge (lots of seating w umbrellas for shade) is the icing on the cake! read more

Mixed feeling about this place. The food was cooked well and the service didn't take too long, but the best part is the view and seating area! The lobster was market price but we have since learned there are much cheaper places in the area to get lobster. The coleslaw on the other hand was a waste of time and energy on their part - cabbage with maybe a touch of mayo, not even enough to bind it and absolutely no flavor. The blackened haddock sandwich special on the other hand was much better. The bun was enough to support all of the ingredients they put on the sandwich, but really it didn't need all of that. The fish alone carried the show and a thinner bun with less toppings would have been well worth the $17 as it was so flavorful and a great portion. They do have a store to by their merchandise, ice cream and drinks available as well. A very nice spot to sit and eat outside read more

Can't say it was worth the money or hype. Beautiful place to eat. Staff is friendly and fast. The food was just Ok. We heard the lobster roll was amazing so we bought one of those, a veggie burger, a regular burger, upgraded the bag of chips to fries, and one soda. $73 total. The burgers fries and soda were about $38 so the mah lobster roll was about $30. The going price for lobster was $6.95 lb. There isn't a pound of lobster on the roll and over all it wasn't great. Nor were the burgers. For the prices I would skip it. read more

My family is in the area looking at housing as I may be relocating for work. We come to MDI every year and were here 8 weeks ago. Now we are staying Downeast Just across the bridge from LDI. After house hunting, on our way back to the Oakland House Inn (another 5 star review), we decided to head across the bridge to Deer Isle for a late lunch. The setting is stunning! Beautiful grounds, nicely spaced out picnic tables, lots of shade, and incredible views. Far better views than any of the lobster pounds on MDI. The food- one word for a typical NE shack by the water- excellent! Best lobster roll I've had in the area, and I've tried many. Loaded with perfectly cooked lobster, a little mayo, and a bit if drizzled butter, all on a butter grilled bun- heaven! The ahi Tina sandwich with wasabi aioli was rare, spicy, and scrumptious with a perfectly toasted brioche bun. My kid's burger was medium, grilled well, and devoured in mere moments. To top it off, the sweet potato fries were crispy and nicely salted, along with horseradish spiced coleslaw made for great sides. I believe you can BYOB, so plan accordingly. We will, when we return tomorrow for an encore. It's a bit pricier than the other places of a similar ilk, but we felt it was worth it. We've been to a LOT of food places in Maine with a view over the years but let me tell you what bub, this place tops them all. The view of the bridge here is just jaw dropping. Moreover, I'm not even a fan of lobster rolls (don't tell the state or they'll revoke my maine residency) but WOW I thought theirs was amazing!! My partner let me steal a bite of her lobster roll and it was just stuffed to the brim with fresh lobster! She got hers with drawn butter (because mayo is for people with questionable palates for food) and I'm sold. This place has me second guessing 39 years of avoiding lobby rolls. Maybe they aren't over rated after all! I got the chowder and it was thick and creamy with just the right ratio of clams and potatoes. read more

We ate here twice during our week in Maine. The haddock sandwich was incredible. We came back for the lobster dinner the following night. Best restaurant we tried on Deer Isle. Hands down. This place was an absolute disappointment. We were staying locally at a nearby B&B and thought we would give this place a try because with Covid, dining as a family of 8 is tough and the choices were few. We drove over to this place and saw many picnic tables, placed far apart, but it was too cold to sit out and eat. We placed our order for take out, and should have had the cashier read it back to us. In the end, when we returned home, we were missing a kid's meal and the burger we ordered was missing the bacon we paid $2 more for. The lobster rolls were good, the chowder was also good, but the burgers were not cooked as ordered...med-well was very rare. The crab cakes were the size of golf balls, very dry, and tasteless. We had 3 orders of mussels, and one order was very undercooked. Over all, the food was not very good, and far too expensive for what was served. We called to see if we could get a credit on our cc for the kid's meal, and discovered we weren't charged for it, but we WERE able to get a credit for the messed up burger. Still, we wouldn't recommend this place, nor will we return there. read more

A great little seafood shack on a meadow at the foot of the Deer Isle Bridge. The hot dogs and lobster roll we tried were both excellent, and I believe they are BYOB so long as you behave yourself, which makes the wide-open outdoor setting (just picnic benches and trees by the ocean-- nothing more!) even more fun. Just be warned that the prices are higher than you would expect from such a modest-looking establishment. read more

Lobster roll was $25. It was ok. No better than others I ve had in my travels through Maine. It is about $5 more expensive than every other place that also served fries. LDI served the smallest bag of chips ever. Cole slaw was bland with a faint taste of the plastic bag it was purchased in. Avoid. Too many others that do it much better. read more

I very rarely order a lobster roll in a restaurant or roadside stand because I'm usually disappointed--I live in Maine so I have access to the freshest lobster in the world, and I know how to cook them, and I make my own lobster rolls that are, to me, nearly perfection. But I made a spontaneous exception and we stopped t LDI Lobster when we were visiting my wife's sister on Deer Isle on Saturday. I ordered a lobster roll and sweet potato fries and we sat at a table overlooking the iconic suspension bridge that connects the island to the mainland. Sailboats were passing back and forth in the brisk breeze. My lobster roll basket was delivered by a cheerful server and it looked wonderful. The roll was nicely toasted and buttered, and the lobster was in big chunks and looked only lightly dressed. Also included were a small cup of coleslaw and a pickle slice. The lobster roll was truly exceptional. The only reason I've only given 4 stars is that the sweet potato fries seemed a little overcooked and they were not as hot as I would prefer. But the lobster roll was succulent and quite spectacular. The meat was tender and salty, with the unique flavor of lobster coming through perfectly. I will be checking to see how much longer they'll be open this season, because I would definitely like to return before they close down. The total cost for my meal was just over $40, including tip and taxes. This is a lot, of course, but for me it was well worth it and I am so glad I stopped. read more
