They have a tiny patio near the front door where you can grab a blanket if you need and hang out while you eat your ice cream. After careful deliberation, I ordered the Coffee Heath Bar hard serve in a waffle cone (that they make there!!!) and my wife ordered Nana's Ginger in a cup. Both were amazing! If you're looking for ice cream anywhere near Ellsworth, it is worth the drive into town for their sweet treats. Many times, after spending a few hours on the trails at Acadia, I drive straight here. I always get the Fudgin' Curmudgeon in a shake w/ hot fudge. As far as I know, there is no better chocolate shake in the world anywhere. My summer does not begin until I've had this shake at Morton's Moo. My partner always samples a couple of things before deciding, and is always happy with the result. There is plenty of parking across the street. When it is crowded, you may have to wait outside on the porch or on the stairs up to the porch. Once you get inside, the air conditioning is great, and there are plenty of fun decorations including an overhead model train. The servers are always patient and professional. Once you have your ice cream, you can sit inside, or on their porch, or stroll the main street in downtown Ellsworth. Morton's Moo is the perfect post-hike respite. read more

I must say that this was one of the best ice cream places I've ever tried--and let me assure you, I have tried 100s. It's a good sized ice cream shop with several varieties of ice creams and sorbets. They also have baked goods, but we did not try any of those. My husband ordered the peanut butter and chocolate shake and I had the dark chocolate ice cream in a homemade waffle cone. The waffle cone was extra, but it was absolutely incredible. It had a hint of cinnamon and was freshly baked. The consistency of the ice cream was almost like a custard, it was so smooth. My husband and I were hankering for our annual "end of summer" ice cream, and were trying to think of a place in Ellsworth, as we were driving through it on our way home. I had a vague remembrance of a place that offered it in downtown Ellsworth, and we happened to stumble on this gem!! Just a warning if this is a concern for you - it's something I always notice since my husband's mobility is not what we would want it to be. There are stairs involved in getting into this place! I didn't see a ramp of any sort - at least not on the front of the place, and if I missed it, please let me know. My only other complaint about Morton's Moo has nothing to do with the product, and everything to do with what annoys me about SO MANY other restaurants, etc: they do not have a menu available online. There is a picture of one on their FB page, but it was inaccurate. I understand that menus change frequently, but the flavors - or meals, in the case of a restaurant - should ALWAYS be up to date online!! However, it's just what you want an ice cream parlor to be! I can't say enough good things about it! It's located in what seems to be an older - but well cared for house. There's a big veranda, where you can sit and enjoy your treat, and the inside is colorful and inviting; the staff warm and friendly. As with all ice cream places - and I'm most familiar with those that sell Gifford's because Maine - there are unusual names for flavors, about which I quizzed the lovely woman who waited on me, finally settling on butter pecan for my husband, and nutty bovine for me. We each got a small scoop, in a dish, with a sugar cone on top (I can't do without a sugar cone, which I then crushed into the ice cream). It wasn't cheap, and frankly, other places offer a MUCH bigger scoop for the same money. And I generally tend to go for quantity over quality in most things. But NOT THIS!! This was EXCELLENT ice cream - with or without the extras that were a part of it. Nutty bovine is a chocolate/coconut flavored ice cream, with chopped almonds and chocolate chips - essentially, a rich, creamy Almond Joy! I have to say, I'm not that much of an ice cream snob - it's hard to go wrong with ice cream, really. But this stood out as just an exceptional produce at the base of it - the ice cream itself was smooth and creamy and had LOADS of flavor! Needless to say, we will be returning!! Before we were very far into our treat, we were heartily wishing they were open year round!!! Go eat their ice cream!! Life is uncertain - eat dessert first! read more

After making a few turns off the main road, you come up to a two story house with red doors where you enter into a wild color splash interior along with ice cream flavors to invigorate your taste buds. My single scoop ($3) of the homemade Maine blueberry was a true reflection of the natural tart and sweetness. Steve made every customer feel welcomed. There were customers who came in to enjoy desserts while sitting at the counter. My only regret ... not ordering a double scoop! Best of all its a local product, and it doesn't get any more local than Morton's Moo in Ellsworth. It's so homey that it looks like one is entering someone's home through the front porch. Its a quaint little ice creamery with a lot of personality - colorful walls accompanied by a rainbow of ice cream colors and flavors, many of which are seasonal and listed on the dry erase board on the wall. There isn't a ton of room for seating, but there are some high chairs at the counter. In terms of classic flavors like chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry, they're all consistently delicious and creamy. Shoot for another interesting combination like the uber popular Maine blueberry, which is smooth and more tart than I expected. In some circles, this might be considered perfection on a cone. I'd be inclined to agree. Morton's is a family owned establishment and the folks running the joint are as nice as one can be. They're generous with providing samples and are always working on something new. The moo of the Maine cows and the magnificent flavors of Morton's have been a wonderful treat for an out of towner like me. read more
