Tasty Banh Mi that is both big in size and flavor! We ordered the grilled pork banh mi and grilled chicken and split between the two of us. Both pork and chicken were grilled to juicy perfection. Protein portion was generous in both sandwiches and veges were crisp and fresh, adding a nice balance to the meat. Sandwiches were easily 12 inches and an excellent bargain at $10. We could have easily split one. The bread had the crunch you expect from a banh mi but the overall texture was too chewy for our liking, which was the only thing that kept it from a 5 star rating. We brought home the Saigon Special for our daughter and she loved it while also commenting that bread was a bit too tough to chew. Service was super friendly, with plenty of seating indoors. I was pleasantly surprised with this Vietnamese sandwich shop. I stopped by one afternoon on the weekday and it was dead (no customers) but I was quickly greeted by the cashier. I ordered a pork belly banh mi and a traditional banh mi. Despite it being slow, it did take a long time for them to make the banh mi which I have to dock 0.5 point for. It looked like the cook was taking his sweet time assembling our sandwiches. When I took it home to eat, the traditional banh mi had soaked through the wrapper which was a good sign for me that it was juicy (perhaps a little too juicy). Upon first bite, I could taste the pate which is one of my fav parts of a traditional banh mi. They were generous with the pate which I really like! The meat was also a good portion size. The only thing I'd like more of was cucumber and cilantro. The size/length of the sandwich was quite big compared to other banh mi places so it was definitely worth the price! The pork belly banh mi was really good too! The pork belly was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I do however prefer the traditional banh mi because it has more flavor. You can't go wrong with either choice. The only con about the sandwich was the bread. It was hard and tough, a little hard to bite and chew without it cutting up my gums. I will say most banh mi bread is like this however I prefer a softer fluffier bread inside and crispy just on the outside. The bread quality could be better so docking another 0.5 point. Finally, she called her boss to come in (Thought it would take no more than 10 minutes). First off I had a nice Saigon special sandwich. It was superb especially the very vibrant hoghead cheese that's on it. I also decided to try the orange chicken. It was also superb. I think they make their own orange sauce, which was quite delicious. I had the beef rib Pho the first time I came in and it was outstanding! My husband and I ordered 2 sandwiches (#1 Saigon Special & #2 Grilled bbq pork) and chow mein all to go. They were quick to make our order. Portions were large. The chow mein was delicious it had so much flavor though my husband said he saw it was frozen... not sure how they made it but it tasted pretty good. I also enjoyed my bbq pork though I felt there was a bit too much mayo and the meat was alittle salty for my taste. But I thought the sandwich was huge and great for the price compared to competitors. The bread was hard but since we took it home we threw it in the toaster oven and it wasn't too bad after. My husband thought his sandwich was just okay. The restaurant was really warm idk if it was just really hot or their ac wasn't working but they did have a huge fan on so that helped cooled us down from the triple digit weather. My husband ordered the #1 Banh Mi, the "Saigon Special," which is the restaurant's most popular and traditional Banh Mi option. I love banh mi and have been ordering different places around town and in So Cal/Anaheim so I have a good idea what a good banh mi tastes like. Service: This review is based on a to go order. I didn't get to experience in it's entirety but the person who assisted me was kind. 4 of 5 stars Food: Ordered the #2 Grilled Pork to pick up but upon getting back to the office, I was given the #1 Saigon Special. No biggie as I usually order similar banh mis that mirror the Saigon Special. The meat was not fresh at all, drier than usual, not evem spread can mask the meat. The bagette was also hard, at least a day old or so. After a few bites, I had to start picking away the rough parts of the sandwhich so I can at least eat the rest of it. On top of getting my order wrong, this is easily bottom 3 banh mis I've ever had. 2 of 5 stars Overall: This place is clean and welcoming. But in regards to my order, maybe they were busy thus messing up my order or the ingredients were just off that day, who knows. If you like a thicker and rich consistency! Very sweet! As for the bahn mi, we got the Saigon special and crispy pork. Saigon: there was something about the patte and mayo combo, it was really good. It had a very meaty flavor but the combination of the mayo provided some sweetness to it. It's very well balanced, assuming that they make the patte themselves... it's probably one of my favorites. In comparison to other Vietnamese places, this patte has a more meaty, livery flavor, if that is something to your liking. Crispy pork: Pork on its own it's really good. More on the salty side but I'm sure that was the purpose of it since it was the only thing that stood out. No patte, no mayo. Just crispy pork, pork belly, chicharons, and veggies. I probably wouldn't order this again. I think the proportions from meat to veggies/bread/other factors were not proportionate? Not much meat really. But the concept of crispy pork belly sandwich is nice! The taste kind of reminds me of a pork charsu!! The bread ratio I think was the highlight of it all. Wasn't too hard to the point it would scrap and make the roof of your mouth bleed. It was soft but still that the crunch factor to it. Pickled veggies are very mild, not that pickled. The location can get very busy, especially parking/traffic. I would recommend parking in the long rows and NOT in front of the store. The jalapeño definitely added a kick so I had to take some off. Heehee. The orange chicken was ok, but the citrus flavor didn't suit my preference so I won't be trying that again. Needed lunch at work and found this place on Yelp. I liked that it was local and I'm always ready to try new banh mi. Unfortunately, they have a lot working against them. I don't support 3rd party delivery apps since they are bad for the delivery driver, the customer, and the restaurant, so I always order directly from the restaurant. This place doesn't even have a phone number to call in an order for pick up, let alone a website to place an order or prepay. It was 17 minutes from the time I placed my order at the register to when I got back in my car, which isn't bad at all, but you add the drive to and from, and I would have been late getting back to work if I had been on my normal 30 minute lunch break. As it was, I spent most of my break procuring the food and then had to eat it in between customers once I got back. The staff is definitely fast and friendly, and you get good value for your money in portion size. The sandwich was just ok though. The bread was incredibly chewy and overpowering. It was also the largest portion of all the ingredients as well. However, the sandwich is huge and will be lunch tomorrow as well. The taro tea was great, super sweet so more of a dessert than a drink, but I really appreciate that they don't charge extra for boba, or to let you substitute rainbow jelly, which I did. The price is reasonable for the size of the banh mi. It's HUGE, probably one of the biggest banh mi in fresno. The quality is average. I was surprised they don't have the traditional cold cut banh mi. Very happy they offered a veggie option and it is average. The tofu was wet, so they could have cooked/fried it longer. I don't recall any jalapeños or it being spicy. Bummer. The bread is soft initially but gets tough. My bf calls it a jawbreaker. Lol.. It was very hot inside the restaurant too. I've been seeing this place hyped up on FB for a little while now so I finally made it out to try it. The restaurant is pretty small but clean and new. The worker was nice and quick to tend to me when I walked in. I decided to order the Saigon special and the crispy pork belly. The first thing I noticed was that they were huge! It's the size of my whole forearm basically. On the flip side, the bread was a little too hard for me on both sandwiches. I like a crunchy bread but this was tiring to get through. The Saigon special was a little lackluster. I don't know if there was pate in there but I didn't taste much. Same with the pickled veggies. It was very mild tasting, could've been pickled longer maybe. The mayo carried the sandwich flavor wise. The crispy pork belly was pretty good although there wasn't much of the crispy pork belly pieces. The skin was only on a few which was kind of disappointing.
