Had a dinner reservation for 4 tonight but last minute children decided tapas style. Restaurant was able to seat wife and I when we arrived. Ordered wine with foie gras and grilled pepper appetizers. Both appetizers were very good. Two entree's were duck breast and flank steak with potato au gratin. Generous portions and cooked to perfection. I ate the whole steak but the duck breast was too much for the wife. I think the children missed out on this one read more

While roaming the streets of Paris, we decided it was lunch time. Now that I love Yelp it's hard for me to just go into some random place with out doing a quick Yelp check. A few people had recommended Cafe De Flore, but a quick look showed that it was not promising. We checked nearby and this little spot came up. This is a very small, quaint restaurant with authentic country food - think Julia Child. My salmon was place on an amazing creamy spinach that I couldn't help but devour. The beef bourguignon was rich and satisfying. Both of these dishes made me want to take a nap!! All the other diners were French and it was obvious that this is a family run restaurant. I can't get involved with a drawn out and lengthy review of this restaurant because I am literally speechless. If you are in Paris, and if you are within 25km of St. Germain, you must eat here. Make reservations and don't be late, because it is small and always packed. My suggestion is to order one of everything on the menu, but if that is not an option I will guide you toward the Chateaubriand, the beef bourguignon, and the sea bass and scallops. You will weep with joy as each tender, delicious morsel of food adorns your unsuspecting taste buds and sends them into an orgasmic frenzy of culinary rapture. If you re in Paris and you have any interest in food, eat here. If you don't, you're an idiot and you're disgracing your foodie gene pool. read more

Id' done my research prior to leaving for Paris and had a list of solidlly reviewed places. And what happened? They failed me. And so we reverted to a very simple strategy. If it smells good, we eat there. After getting lost on our way to another restaurant, Will R. directed us toward this little side street and after stopping at a couple of places, once I saw they had a Boeuf Bourguignon on their menu, I quickly ushered us inside Le Bistrot D'Henri. Julien, the owner and son of Henri, asked us whether we had reservations. We didn't and the tiny restaurant was completely packed. Another couple arrived less than 30 seconds ago and somehow, we managed to grab the very last table for 2. Surprisingly, we ended up sitting next to a lone American who had been frequenting Bistrot Henri for years now and actually was making a stop in Paris from his way to Chicago from Zurich just for dinner here. On our other side was a French couple who seemed to be regulars. The American had ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon and when it arrived, I knew Will would order that. Listening in on the French couple's order, I was amazed to find both ordering the Chateaubriand, one of the order asking for it being cooked "Bleu", something I'd heard of but had never seen in real life. Of course, I had to order the Chateaubriand, given those accolades. To trust a restaurant to be able to cook a steak "bleu/blue" means that you completetly trust both the chef and their suppliers. The well known and referred to definition for "bleu" is that a good vetenerian should still be able to save it, aka, cooked on the outside but so lightly that when cut into, it literally is so dark red, it would be blue if not for the contact with oxygen (the reason why blood veins appear blue). I had mine medium rare and it was so good that if it wasn't for the fact that I wanted to try Will's Boeuf Bourguignon, I wouldn't have offered him any. Even the potato gratin that came on the side along with the light sauce on the plate were perfect. This was our best meal in all of Paris and just like everyone else who has set foot into this restaurant, we were won over completely. Mains range from EUR19-23 level with appetizers around EUR9-13. Our bottle of Vacqueyras set us back another EUR23 and for the best meal in Paris, the tab was actually quite decent. While located in the St Germain Des Pres area (touristy), the food is anything but the best home cooked you'll find anywhere. Across the way and around the block are plenty of bars for later and we only wish we'd found this place our first night. Making a reservation is probably best. read more

Ok... We knew we were in trouble when we walked in... Full of fat American tourists eating soft food prepared for tourists with dentures. But, not wanted to offend, we continued with the culinary experiment. The duck breast was obviously from a horse based on the size of the portion and the toughness of the meat (girlfriend's dish). I ordered the fish sausage. Admittedly I have know idea what it should've tasted like, but I am guessing not spongy tasteless fish infused paste. Fairly gross... Texture was hard to get past. In short a tourist trap. Go elsewhere or drink enough wine to be able to palette the food. Worse than the tourist cafes near the museums. read more

Came here due to good reviews and it was just okayyyy. We started with escargot and I feel anytime I eat escargot I don't care about the snails itself, im more interested in the garlicky oily sauce. Nomzzz it was delicious and i dipped all the bread in it haha. I also had bone marrow for the first time. did not like, and would not get again. My opinion on this isn't worth much since it was my first time but it was pretty tasteless, the texture was disgusting, and I felt like i was eating soft lumpy fat bits. My main I had the onglet that came with a side of CRAZY CHEESY scalloped potatoes and a little crusty on top from being burnt (FAV). The beef was pretty good, not the most memorable part just because i loved the potatoes and they LOADED caramelized onions on top of the steak which were fan-tasticcc. Overall, would not come here again if I had the choice, but an average french bistrot dinner. ps one of the waiters was fantastic. I came here alone for my last dinner on my trip to Pairs, and it didn't disappoint! I came on a Friday night around 7:20 (they open at 7), and it was still mostly empty. It filled up quite a bit over the next hour, but I think there was still a table or two open when I left. I communicated in French as well as I could, and everyone working there was very friendly and polite (that was my experience in most of Paris). A lot of the people around me seemed foreign, but not all American - there was a good mix. I was in the mood for steak, so I got the chateaubriand, cooked "saignant" (somewhere around medium rare to rare), along with a glass of the house red. The wine was good for a house wine, and a pretty big pour. The steak was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and covered in a wonderful cream sauce, served with what seemed to be scalloped potatoes. I got a big basket of bread and ate almost the whole thing, sopping up the sauce and juice. I'm a bit sad I was on my own and didn't have someone with me that I could talk into ordering the beef bourguignon... Next time! read more

It is so easy to find a good place to eat in Paris. As long as you don't go to a tourist trap or those street lined cafe, you're in good shape. One area which has no shortage of local, intimate restaurants is Saint Germain. And despite the abundance of great restaurants here, we stumbled upon a special gem among gems. The restaurant is a small establishment with intimate decor and an ambience suitable for most moods. Service was amazingly friendly, and second only to the quality of the meal. We ordered the lobster bisque, and the crab and avocado salad for starters. The crab and avocado salad was particularly memorable. For mains, the sea bass and scallops with pesto, and the veal cooked in white cream sauce with carrots and mushrooms. Both these items were divine, particularly the veal. In fact, I can't remember the last one I had meat this tender. Amazing!!!! Highly recommend this place. Make sure you have a reservation because it was packed. The only reason we got a table without a reservation was because we got there early for dinner. Like 6 ish. read more

Very nice. Blanquette de veau was very satisfying (for a bloke with an awful hangover), avocado-crab cocktail salad thingy delicious too. Loud American women bit of a downer but hey they meant well. Service good, house wine too. All in all very authentic. Go eat there, people! read more

It's hard to please me because I like to cook. Although obviously catering to the tourist crowd (see bad review on Yelp), I found this place reasonably priced with good quality and 100% better than the street cafes that rely on wandering crowds (the previous day I had a dry chicken dinner with gravy that must have been made with Knorr soup mix). We went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening within minutes of opening and first to be seated. By the time we left it was packed. Service was excellent. The waiter (owner?) was helpful, easygoing and funny. Chicory salad was delicious for two. I had scallops, mashed potatoes and trout...well prepared and good portion. I would say I got the best dish although everyone was satisfied (ravioli, lamb stew and fettuccine with scallops). read more

We saw the zagat sticker on the window when walking by and decided to try it for dinner. Did not disappoint. The waiter gave recommendations. We started with the arugula salad with shrooms and shaved Parmesan. Dressed lightly. Yum! We ordered the chateaubriand that was suggested by other yelpers and that was delicious as well. But the highlight was the slow cooked lamb shank that the waiter said that he dreamed of when he was off at school in London. Amazing! Both mains came with delicious layered potatoes on the side. Highly recommended by friends who were visiting Paris the same time that we were, but I don't think we loved it as much as they did. Like many other bistros in Paris, Henri's is close and intimate. We shared our space with another older American couple who were lovely to visit with. Our server was lovely as well. We started with the warm goat cheese, which was fantastic. I had the veal scallopine, husband and son had a chicken dish, daughter had the ravioli with Parmesan sauce. For dessert we did the chocolate mousse and creme brûlée -- very good. Came here for lunch on the recommendation of my sister. It did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My sister wanted to order the foie gras salad and was told by the waiter to order the special salad of the day because "it was better." I don't know if it was better, but it was damn good. Cool, crisp lettuce with green beans tossed with a light but creamy dressing with a large piece of foie gras and some serrano ham. So good. The escargot appetizer was delicious as well. They definitely didn't skim on that parsley butter; there was enough to dip the bread into even after eating the snails. I had the scallops with pesto and pasta. It was good. The pasta was fresh and the pesto had some of that grassy notes that come with fresh herbs but not so much as to be unappetizing. It was a little chunky, not really a smooth sauce but tasted great. My sister had the duck breast with honey and that was probably the best dish we ordered. Perfectly cooked and garnished with a sweet honey sauce, it earned status as "the best duck ever" from my sister (though full disclosure, she said that 3 different times during our trip to France so take that with a grain of salt) We also had the beef bourguignon, which was very rich and almost velvety in texture. Dessert was the only low point, we had the cherry clafouti, going against recommendations. It was alright but compared to the rest of our meal, stood out for all the wrong reasons. Everyone around us spoke English which did make me question the authenticity of the food, but everything was great. We arrived at 7pm on a week day and did not have to wait. Probably the best all around meal we had in France. The escargot was awesome, and we had the house special salad which was unlike any salad I've ever tasted before. For dinner, the ravioli with truffle oil was the single most delicious plate of my entire Europe trip. The whole menu looked amazing, so it was hard to make a choice. This place is the BEST French food you can find in the St.Germain area. Excellent food. My wife had the traditional beef stew and it was delicious! My daughter and I had Lamb Chops and it was delicious. We had appetizers of Roasted Peppers and Escargots. Delicious. You absolutely cannot go wrong here. We got great French Wine to go with our dinner. It was smooth as silk and the restaurant itself is very cozy and intimate. One of our favorite dinning spots in Paris. St. Germaine district is the perfect setting for this little gem of a restaurant. The staff spoke English and were very helpful and pleasant. We sat onside on the street and enjoyed the nice Paris atmosphere and a nice bottle of wine. "Henri" is no long at the restaurant, however his son was our waiter. It was an all around great experience. We arrived a bit early. I believe an 8pm reservation. Good thing we did. The place was packed. They were turning people away. The restaurant is small it only sits maybe 40 people. Eat here, enjoy the pure Parisien vibe. You will be glad you did. read more

Very cute bistro in the heart of the 6th. Lots of English speakers. Had the warm goat cheese Salad(yum!) and the flank steak which was cooked perfectly. My kids shared the pork tenderloin with pasta - loved it! Only downside is that there is NO a/c!!!!! It was so hot that it made my 4 Star dinner a 3. There were not even fans. I also will add b/c of the cramped tables and small space, I did smell the bathroom one or twice. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended, and certainly lived up to the reviews. It's refreshing to walk by a restaurant in Paris where you aren't hustled to come in, and instead relies on its humble and relaxing ambience. I had the scallops with pesto and pasta. Clearly the pasta was home made, combined with very fresh and perfectly cooked scallops- home run there! Mom had seven hour roasted lamb. Had a little Mediterranean flavor and was also tasty.
