Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Had the cherry tomatoes with Mozarella (cheese was definitely a bit goeey) For the entree had the steak frites (medium well) which was fine. Could have been a bit juicier in my opinion. Had a chocolate eclairs type dessert with vanilla ice cream. Service was attentive and there was a nice ambience throughout the restaurant. First off if you're looking for a nice pkace that serves dinner early search no farther. Typically French places start dinner service around 7pm. Commerce actually didn't close after lunch so you early meal eaters or jet lag victims can come here for a bite. Our service was friendly and they actually have a English version of their The menu is fairly affordable with my 200g Le Formidable filet de boeuf aka steak and frites was 28€. My very first spot I went to in Paris . Will never forget . For someone to tell you the place is absolutely beautiful. It has about three floors a ceiling that retracts in the summertime so you can have a open fresh air, beautiful live plants all over the place. The customer service and hospitality was phenomenal. the rumors that people say that the France French people are rude as a lie as long as you're nice to them and always greet them with bonjour you'll have a great experience. Classic French restaurant atmosphere. Three stories high. Except for the automatic handing over of the English language menus, which we didn't need, the service was impeccable. The waiter was just the right amount of attentive. The food was delicious. I had the sea Bass which was grilled to perfection, and the potatoes were heavenly. While the atmosphere was outstanding, our dinner for three was ok at the reknown cafe. One wonders why so-called high-end restaurants feel the need to toy with traditional dishes, such as tartare and shrimp cocktail, instead of just doing them exceptionally well in their classic form. For example, my shrimp was mushed into tasteless avocado mixed with grapefruit slices, leaving the tastebuds to wonder what was happening. The tartare was thick and sweet, also turning into a mush. Maybe the skate my granddaughter ordered should have stayed in the ocean since it was stringy and somewhat bitter. My French onion soup was acceptable but when I asked for butter to go with the bread, the server plopped two pats on the table in front of me. What high-end restaurant serves butter in such an uncoup way? How about serving pats of butter in a small dish in a civilized way. I have to say I was surprised at the dress allowed in the restaurant, too. All in all, we've had better food, friendlier server faces and an overall dining experience at smaller cafes in Paris. And, yes, I know how to review restaurants because I spent many years at an American newspaper doing just that, including high-end ones. Cafe du Commerce needs to rethink its menu. read more

Our party of 8 came to the Café du Commerce location in the 15e arrondissement of Paris after making a reservation for dinner a few days before the Olympics. Although the restaurant was busy, there was no wait time. Loved everything about it: the food (pavé de rumstek et frites), wine, decor, price, and service! Street parking was easy to find as well. Will be back for sure!! Also, have I mentioned this restaurant is over 100 years old? Not sure why it only appeared in my feed recently but now that it did, I suggest we all catch up by visiting it if you are in the area! That's how much I enjoyed it! read more

This was a find. A friend mentioned Cafe du Commerce after her recent visit to the restaurant. Though pretty familiar with the Parisian dining scene, we decided to give it a try during the busy Olympic tourist surge. I'm certainly happy we did. Situated near the La Motte Picquet Grenelle Metro in a nice neighborhood, the Art Deco style Brasserie is in a commercial but not in a particularly touristy part of the city. Arriving on a Tuesday we were surprised to find the three floor Cafe pretty crowded but the obliging staff brought us to a nice table for two. No huffy hassles as in some places given we did not have a reservation. The Lunch and Dinner menu are extensive, but the way to go is the Lunch Special. Normally we don't take this route but the establishment is geared for efficiency and quality serving a largely business but increasingly noticeable tourist contingent especially from the U.S. West coast. The Lunch Menu for under 20 Euros is a deal; a choice of an Entree and then an amazing selection of Deserts along with Coffee. A glass of wine is extra but not pricy. On our first trip my wife decided upon Salmon with Aubergine while I had a steak with frites and special house sauce. We liked the place so much we returned a second time last week. Again no problem getting in despite it being rather full. Upon our return we both had the seared Beef tataki accompanied by a glass of Cote du Rhone. For desert she ordered Cafe Gourmand. I had a wondrous desert Profiterole. Good spot on service on both occasions too. Though dating from 1921, the restaurant is adorned with polished woods, marble, mirrors and potted plants, the Cafe du Commerce does not have a stuffy nor dated feel. Rather it exudes an authentic vibe which flows as smoothly as the service. Cafe du Commerce is a classic old school French establishment which still presents good food in an unhurried atmosphere. We came for the Architecture. Cafe du Commerce is housed in a spectacular space. We've seen it many times on France 24's French Connections Plus. Unfortunately, Flo Villeminot's bubbly charm did not transfer to the staff of the restaurant. Brusk and lacking of anything to be confused with hospitality, this local's "churn and burn" was nothing special. Considering it's location, and it's middle of the road food, there really is no reason to go there except for it's beautiful space. I'm sorry to say, it was a waste of time. read more

Upon arrival for our reservation the receptionist was unwelcoming, stoic and unfriendly. It took her a while to locate our reservations and with our assistance she found it. We requested to be seated on the second level at which she seemed annoyed, complied with our request, pointed out choices by pointing to the floor plan, then quickly gave us a ticket before we chose a place. We headed to the second floor provided a staff out ticket and were seated accordingly. Noticed that the receptionist escorted a handful of other customers to their table, hmmmm . Our waiter was pleasant, assisted with our understanding of the menu and took our meal order. Our meal was served, 1st course was missing one order which we received after informing a second waiter that we had not received it. All 3 courses were unassuming and just okay (nothing to rave, write home about). The 2nd course took a long time as we observed other diners, 3 who arrived after us, received their 1st, 2nd and on one diner their 3rd course before we received our 2nd course. Not sure why as our order was not out of the ordinary. The ambience was pleasant with 2 levels of very nice plantings surrounding the rectangular parameter of the 2nd & 3rd levels for dining. Absolutely lovely. The location itself is beautiful and photo-worthy. The photos on here are good, but barely do it justice - this place is just darn pretty. Service is also great - it's a lot faster than it is in other places. The food is also really nice. I tried various cocktails, the escargot, and the duck - all of them were really tasty, and definitely worth ordering. I found all dishes reasonably priced for what they were, and I left extremely full and happy. If you find yourself in the area, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

If you are American do not bother coming here! We were so excited to try the steak and fries but we left with a sour taste in our mouths. I walked in and asked if they had a table for a party of 4, the hostess stated the wait would be 30 min and I said that was fine. A party ahead of me and behind me did not have to wait and they were seated immediately, I assumed they had reservations. I was told that I could wait outside which we did. I am not exaggerating when I say that at least 50 people walked in with little to no wait time. Not one party was ushered outside to wait. The hostess was aware that we were outside and she went outside looking for someone and saw us waiting. After an hour I walked in and I noticed nobody was waiting for a table meaning we were the only party waiting. I asked how much longer it would be the hostess walked away from me and the manager asked for my name I pointed to my name of their paper and noticed the parties ahead of me were crossed out and seated and the parties after me were crossed out and seated. The manager was rude and dismissive. We were seated an hour later. I cannot comprehend how they were able to seat multiple parties of at least 8 but not a party of 4. There is no way that all of the 50+ individuals that walked in all had reservations. We were the only party that was American. This place is not worth the horrible service never in my life have I experienced this behavior. I never write reviews but this was definitely necessary! read more

The food, the service, and the ambiance all deserve a five-star rating. Our French in laws met us here for dinner, and we all had a good time getting together, and the staff did not rush us out of the place! They kindly provided us with menus that had English translation. And our waiter was very attentive. For us Americans, he provided us with a canister of ice cubes for our water! Each of the dishes served, whether it was starter, entree, or dessert, was visually interesting. Our host chose a white wine from the Loire Valley. Our waiter was both efficient and friendly. The restaurant has three floors of diners around a central atrium. The overall visual effect this was superb. So many things in Paris are not air conditioned. And it was interesting to see that when you looked up, the glass rooftop was open, and it created a wind tunnel effect. This restaurant was a very pleasant experience and if I were to visit Paris again I would plan to return. read more

This is the first time I've ever been in Paris, so I'm not the best judge of restaurants on this continent, but I am from San Francisco, which helps... a little bit. I came here looking to try their tartar of raw beef, or Tartare, as I felt like trying something daring. My friend thought I was crazy, but it was actually really good. It had what you would imagine of the texture of raw beef, but you could only taste all the spices and herbs that "cook" the dish. I really enjoyed the blend of the flavors and it made my first authentic french dish very memorable. The service is what you would expect from europe, and the waiter spoke enough english to ask if i wanted the tartare cooked or raw, the way it's supposed to be. I thought it was very nice of him to double check if I knew that it was raw before serving such a dish to an american. The atmosphere was casual and I really liked how there were three floors, and both top floors could overlook the balcony to the main floor. The restaurant was also easily accessible with just a block down from one of the underground tram stops...and they close pretty late. Next time, it's escargot for me. read more

Café du Commerce is the quintessential neighborhood bistro, packed with locals for the lunch specila of Plat, Dessert & Café for 15,50 € ($18). If you only want the plat, it's less than 13€ ($15) for lunch! Most people eating next to me ordered the steak and fries for their main course and the dessert & coffee special, but after hearing the table of businessmen next to me complain that their steak and fries were cold even after sending back their order, I opted for one of the daily specials, the lamb stuffed with chèvre (goat cheese), roquette (arugula), served with lentils and garlic cream for 19,50 € ($23). It came in a beautiful little cocotte, and was delightfully rich and hearty. The garlic cream wasn't even necessary, but it was great to sop up with the bread. For less than 4 €, I had a nice glass of Bordeaux. It was good enough that I decided to come back a bit later than the lunch rush so that the kitchen and staff would be less harried and try the steak and fries. read more

Wow! We love Le Cafe du Commerce! My Parisienne friend brought us here for dinner this week. This is her absolutely favorite place and I can see why! I understand it is one of the oldest bistros in Paris and is also one of its busiest (at all hours and any day). A reservation is highly recommended. Upon entering, one immediately notices the three story atrium. When the weather is nice, the ceiling opens up so that it becomes more a central courtyard. Definitely try and get a table along the balconies on the upper floors. The menu items were extensive. Be on the lookout for items on the French menu with the "house" symbol, which means it is a a house specialty. There is also a Franco-Anglo menu so no worries if you cannot read French. We each had a different starter, and tried some of each other's. My friend had the pate (loved it) while my partner got the goat cheese trio. I got the salmon mousse (sounds worse than it tastes)! Loved each of them. For dinner, I got the rump steak, medium, with frites. It was excellent! My friend only eats steak at Cafe du Commerce, and so I thought I would get the same as she. My partner got the duck, which he said fell off the bone. It looked good! It came with gratinee dauphinois (his fave). We polished off our meal with a couple of desserts. I got the chocolate mousse--it was nice and dense and chocolatey! Service was impeccable. The table next to us had a birthday guest. And so the waiters brought out a slice of cake with a firework (definitely not a candle) and sang "happy birthday". We would definitely be back next time we visit Paris. This place is in a quiet neighborhood of Paris, and is frequented mostly by locals. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Le Cafe du Commerce in March of this year during my trip to Paris. My friend had wanted to try it ever since moving to France and I was down for a special dining experience during this trip. Suffice to say this restaurant exceeded my expectations and wowed me with it's decor. The main entrance is located down a corridor off of the main street. When you walk in you instantaneously realize that it's a multi-level restaurant with a classic French feel. French posters surrounding tables draped with white tablecloth elevate the experience and definitely helps to emit an upscale atmosphere. We were immediately seated on the second floor with a view looking down onto the main floor. Our server came up to us right away and took our drink orders. When it came to our food, my friend and I both ordered the Steak-Frites. This is definitely the best version of the dish I'VE EVER HAD. A must-have if you end up visiting. The unfortunate part, though, was that I ordered six escargots. Three of the shells were empty. I pointed this out to the waiter, who brought back three escargots. All good. But when we got the bill, I saw we were charged for nine escargots. I told the person at the front desk and he corrected the bill, but he was brusque about it. I order La pièce de boeuf, frites maison, sauce du jour. The meal includes your choice of dessert of apple pie or ice cream and coffee or tea. The steak was good but not extraodinary, and it was a bit on the chewy side. The steak was served with a sauce of the day. French fries were good, as they were nice and crisp. After the main course meal, I ate the dessert of apple pie. Outer layer was very crisp, sweet and there are a thin layer of chopped up apples. The apple pie itself is very thin and it's different from what you eat in North America. Nearing the end, I was served coffee. It was a very small cup which came with a cookie. Coffee was strong, slightly bitter, but rich. I enjoyed it even though I'm not a big fan of coffee. Much better than Starbucks. The meal also comes with French bread. The bread wasn't exactly the best French bread I've had, but it was free. It was on the hard and on the chewy side. Service was great. Waiter was very friendly and he spoke English and French. All in all, I really enjoyed this French restaurant. My sister introduced me to this restaurant because mostly locals, and not tourist eat at this restaurant. read more

We were taken to Le Café du Commerce by some local Parisian friends who wanted to show us some traditional French fare. The restaurant certainly has the classic French feel, from the menu to the waiters, and won't disappoint if you're looking to break away from the tourist scene. The menu consists of a variety of items, of which I tried the steak et frites and the razor clams. Both were delicious! My only complaint would be that I requested my steak to be cooked medium rare and the server assured me that because I am American (which I am not), I would not like my meat could medium rare. Despite his advice I asked for my steak medium rare but still did not receive it when my meal was served. Though still a delicious steak, I would have preferred it to be cooked to my liking, no the waiter's. For dessert, Le Café du Commerce has an impressive list of French-inspired treats, including crème brule and rum cake. I am told that the rum cake is especially good. Overall, Le Café du Commerce was an adequate choice for our first meal in Paris and certainly gave us the French vibe. I came to Café du Commerce twice - once almost half a year ago, and another time very, very recently (less than two weeks ago). The first time I came, I was here with a class; the decor was suitably impressive as one of our class excursions and the food was pretty good. However, we waited almost TWO hours for our set menus, which we had ordered ahead of time. Our teacher kind of blew up at the waiter, who was pretty rude about the whole thing. I remember really liking the prune/fig on my terrine de lapereau, but I barely remember what food I got. So I guess it wasn't that impressionable. The second time I came, I brought some friends here because it happened to be right between UNESCO and the Eiffel Tower. This time, we had really good service; food got served promptly, and the server was pretty nice to my English-speaking friends. Depending on what you get, this could be 4 stars, but it could also be 2 stars :x A friend across from me got a pig body part (not sure what it was) that smelled rather foul (and tasted pretty strong and inedible to me), but she liked it a lot. She's from the South, so she said she's eaten pig in all forms. That would've definitely ruined my experience. I got the magret de canette with a berry sauce, but I felt that the sauce tasted too strongly of red wine. Although I asked for my meat rosé, it was poorly cooked. Although it was VERY cooked on the outside, I was disgusted to find that it was still completely raw on the inside. Although I understand the French love for raw beef, I don't think poultry should ever be raw at all. I finally asked the waiter if it could be cooked a bit more, and he graciously took it back. They even added more fries. +1 for the service :) It was much better this time around, but eventually, I reached another point where the meat was again, still very raw. I guess the duck was not cooked evenly, and I didn't want to ask for it to be cooked again. One of my friends got the pastilla du canard au miel, and it was actually really, really delicious. If you get this, you'll have a 5 star experience (: Excellent food, good service, lovely art-deco surroundings (3 floors!) - what more could you want? It's less than 15€, too. Unfortunately, my magret de canette (which I thought would be worth paying for) was significantly more expensive, and nowhere as good. We got the mi-cuit au chocolat with the fleur d'oranger ice cream. The chocolate cake wasn't very spectacular, but the ice cream was wonderful. :D Overall, I'd recommend Café du commerce if you're careful about what you get. The best restaurant in Paris bar none. Truly wonderful atmosphere with a typically French feel. Off the beaten track which ensures you do not get ripped off and the food and service are brilliant. The food is typically French ranging from Grande Salades to Steak Tar Tar. The Art Deco building covers three floors and the waiting staff have no problem keep up with the number of patrons. Until recently there was no English menu but that has changed (which probably means more tourists know about it now - damn!). On a sunny day the whole roof lifts back so that yyou get a full view of the sky above and a terrific breeze. It's a truly romantic and magical restaurant. We have never been disappointed with the service or the food and we have been back several times (that can not be said for many restaurants any where). read more
