The best restaurant in Paris bar none. Truly wonderful atmosphere with a typically French feel. Off the beaten track which ensures you do not get ripped off and the food and service are brilliant. The food is typically French ranging from Grande Salades to Steak Tar Tar. The Art Deco building covers three floors and the waiting staff have no problem keep up with the number of patrons. Until recently there was no English menu but that has changed (which probably means more tourists know about it now - damn!). On a sunny day the whole roof lifts back so that yyou get a full view of the sky above and a terrific breeze. It's a truly romantic and magical restaurant. We have never been disappointed with the service or the food and we have been back several times (that can not be said for many restaurants any where). read more

This place is a cut above must typical Parisian brasseries, primarily so due to the gorgeous interior. 3 stories with an open atrium and loads of plats in the middle makes it feel airy. Classy joint. They offer some sliced sausicon as an 'amuse buche'. Good wine list at not unreasonable prices, and THE place to get a Kir Royale. Food is solid upscale brasserie fare - you'll be happy with most anything you choose. I've eaten here multiple times over the years, and most recently took clients (fellow Americans) there. Everyone enjoyed their meal very much; I had the Pied du Porc - it was really tasty and prepared perfectly, but a labor-intensive eating experience for not a lot of actual meat, so I recommend something else. Make a reservation, and ask for a balcony table in the 1e (2nd floor). read more

The thing is, in Paris, on a Monday night, most restaurants are closed. My friends were staying near Commerce and I did a pretty comprehensive search, I thought, on TripAdvisor, and I was having troubles coming up with options. Out of the 13,000 restaurant listings in Paris, Cafe Cosmos at #5708 was looking like it might be the best we could do... But showing up, on a rainy night, the menu looked rather uninspiring. Burgers. Salads. We had a drink at a regular bistro on Rue de Commerce instead, and then we spotted Le Cafe Du Commerce out of the corner of our eyes. It looked pretty nice from the outside... And was even nicer on the inside (I should have taken photos). A beautiful open art deco space from 1921: very charming indeed. And somehow I'd missed it in my internet research. It's ranked #2463! The service was very French, the menu was very French and extensive (and the French version offered much more than the English version). I think A. was happy with his little ramekin was aubergine and goat's cheese. W. said that beetroot carpaccio was just as excuse for the delicious chevre cheese on top. I myself couldn't resist trying the breaded bone marrow and toast, a fantastically odd dish. I don't think it needed the breading, which was a bit crude, but the bone marrow was tasty and strange and gelatinous and I'm glad I tried it. For our mains, W. had a mini pot roast, in its own pot, A. a classic steak with roquefort dressing and I couldn't resist trying scorpion fish, because really, who wouldn't want to order something that looks like a scorpion fish. Google it! If I'm back sometime, I'll try the 12-hour pig's trotter... All washed down with a bottle of dry white wine, we were far too full for dessert... Frankly, with Paris rainy and slick with rain, shiny and cozy, and in some of the finest company I could imagine, the food didn't really matter much at all, so the fact that we found an authentic French bistro with a menu slightly out of the ordinary on a Monday night was all we needed. Traditional brasserie café in Paris, not far from La Tour Eiffel but quite removed from the fake touristy feel of that area. We went for a simple lunch of steak frites and raspberry/blueberry sorbet (menu a 15 Euros) with a little Bordeaux red in a carafe. The meal was completely satisfying and well presented. When you enter the café, it's like going into a theatre, through a lobby and vestibule and then into three stories of serving space. The space used to be a fabric store, and then in 1921 became a hangout for local auto-workers. It has remained busy and popular among locals and, yes, tourists. It's a great value for the quality although it is busy and hardly intimate. read more

I didn't know anything about this place before meeting a friend for lunch. It's your typical busy and hopping lunch place but they have (as many places in Paris do) an excellent and inexpensive lunch special. Enjoyed a great meal tucked away in a corner with a close friend. It's not "in my neighborhood" but it's been around since 1921 so you know it's doing something right. Worth checking out if you're nearby for a great and inexpensive lunch. read more

With friends having raved about the cafe, we had to try it. It is quite stunning with its 3 floor atrium, overflowing with plants and trees. The service was extraordinary, with a maitre'd, waiter, runner and server all attuned to our table. We shared an appetizer of a salmon salad in a edible, paper thin shell reminiscent of an Indian Dosa. My husband got fish and chips that he loved. I got the highly touted Limosin beef Bavette which was, as often happens in Paris, too well done even though I asked for it to be à point. The frites were quite good and my Café Gourmand had 3 tasty sweets. We will try again but I was disappointed in the steak. read more

Walking into Le Cafe du Commerce is like walking through a time warp, in the best way. This is a professionally managed cafe - after multiple visits we appreciated the consistency of the old world service approach. Lovely lovely restaurant in Paris. I came here with my whole family and we had a big table on the top floor. We were treated extremely well - several of our party spoke French so I think that helped a lot. The food was of good standard and reasonably priced for what you get. I liked that they gave you bread and the tastiest rillette as an appetizer. It is off the beaten track in the middle of a shopping street. This my go-to bistro in Paris for delicious cuisine. The traditional dishes - steak frites, escargot, onion soup, profiteroles etc. - are all done exceptionally well. They also have inventive specials and other dishes on the menu - we had a whipped fois gras brûlée with diced green apple as an amuse bouche one visit yuuuum. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with a three story open air courtyard in the middle of the space. Highly recommend a trip to the 15th to check out this gem. We had made a reservation for a New Years eve arrangement 2011. There were full house and the croud was excited to taste the five course menu. Overall the food was high standard. Appetizers, foie gras and fish starters was a good size and the maincourse steak was served perfekt as ordered. My favorite place in Paris. Excellent authentic french food in a nice building with a roof that can be opened to give the feeling that you're dining in a balcony. Wonderful service. I went to this place about 15 years ago. I remember it so well because it was literally the only terrible meal I had in Paris. At the time there were a lot of street ads for it around the Commerce/Grenelle area (major warning sign: no other bistros advertised this relentlessly, or AT ALL) and we had rather scrupulously avoided it until one time we were just so hungry and it was literally in front of us, so we went just to see what the fuss was. Our waitress actually cut my meat for me, like you would for a small child. I was 15 at the time. It was disgusting anyway. As was the soup and even the bread was bad. How do you fuck up bread in France? Seriously, this place was MEMORABLY horrendous. My family still jokes about it to this day. It's incredibly difficult to get a bad meal in Paris, much less one that becomes synonymous with tasteless food and atrocious service to the point that you are compelled to write a negative review after 15 years. There were many, many other bistros/restaurants that we revisited over the course of the time living in Paris and they were all better than this merdehole. read more

This is clearly far and away my favorite restaurant in Paris, probably France or the world. Traditional French food. Open for lunch, then dinner. Service excellent, ten minutes from Eiffel Tour, but in the 15e so it is away from the tourists. Only French people dining here most of the time. Long time locals. Every course magnificence - soup a l'onion is a must. Profiteroles not to be missed. Not expensive either. Just great on every level. Le Café du Commerce is a classic French bistrot - in style and menu, yet has managed to retain a local Parisian feel and largely French clientele. The menu is diverse, offering favorite "go-to" French dishes as well as very traditional ones such as tête de veau and pigs ears! My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed our meal. We split an order of 12 escargots to start and a pichet of the house red. As escargots go, they were standard, but not the best I've had. However, as a main course, I chose a truly excellent steak tartare. You have the choice of ordering already dressed and prepared, or ordering to mix yourself. I chose to go with the house preparation, no capers, and it was an absolute delight. My boyfriend had a delicious lamb dish and was quite pleased. The biggest draw for me, however, is the setting. Le Café du Commerce was originally a ladies department store before switching to a restaurant in the 1920s. The three levels open onto a beautiful courtyard that transports you to another era. I give the food a solid 3.5 stars, but the service and setting make it a unique dining experience. read more

Went here for dinner on a short layover from San Francisco. The service was excellent. I had the rump steak medium well with frites and it was a little rare but they had no problem cooking it longer for me. I had an arugula salad with goat cheese for a starter and it was so fresh and creamy. Creme' Brûlée's for desert. Everything was phenomenal. No complaints. Our server Enzo was amazing. Clean, high quality establishment, and management were walking around checking everything was OK. A bump between two waiters spilled some wine on my friend, but we just let it go and were given free champagne at the end of the meal by the management. Visited this restaurant in April this year and were very disappointed. The waiter who took our order only seemed to be interested in the regular French customers although his English was good. It is a gorgeous looking restaurant and we sat upstairs surrounded by plants. It has a lovely air about it. Our food was not good - I had lamb with lentils and it had a most peculiar taste. I didn't complain but could only eat a few mouthfuls. We could see the kitchen door from where we sat and it was staggering to see how hard the waiters had to work carrying huge trays above their heads up the stairs. read more

This very nice historical "brasserie" is located in a lively neighbourhood. It offers a large selection of traditionnal French food, including a fine kid menu that looks suitable for children 3-10. The dishes I sampled were very good - smoked salmon and duck leg in orange dressing. Desserts were also good - I just looove "Paris-Brest"! I think prices are quite reasonnable for this kind of place. The only glitch was with the service. I made reservations at 12pm to make sure we could start eating shortly there after as my 3-year-old needs to eat around that time. The place was pretty much empty when we got there. Yet, the waiter's priority was to remove the extra chair at our table that he "desparately" needed somewhere else. That looked pretty weird when most of the tables on our floor were open at that point - it did get really busy later on, but still. Our meals finally got to the table around 12:40. That was a long time to keep a 3-year-old waiting. There were also big gaps between dishes, and to finally get our check. It was fine overall because we came to enjoy the place and spend some time chatting with friends, but things could have been moving along a little more swiftly, especially at the beginning. Absolutely outstanding! The evening was the perfect mixture of impeccable food and amazing service. From the moment we walked in, we felt warmly welcomed and personally cared for. If you do not know much (or any) French, the wait staff is happy to help you in English. A French/English menu is available to help you peruse the numerous classic and contemporary French dishes. In typical French fashion, we had our meal in multiple courses and it spanned nearly 3 glorious hours. Each course was fantastic. For appetizers, the rabbit and salmon were divine. For our main courses, we had lamb and young pork, which were also absolutely perfect. Finally, we had delicious crème brûlée. We do not often go to fancier restaurants, so take our praise with a grain of salt, but Le Cafe du Commerce soared above all expectations and we could not have been happier with our experience in this lovey, delicious, and welcoming restaurant. read more

We just celebrated one of my very good friends' birthday at this restaurant and to make it short they made her and our experience awful. The service was terrible, they were very rude as if they expected us to be thankful that they were serving us. And when we discretely asked the waiter to perform their signature extravagant birthday celebration for our friend he agreed and never followed though. They gave her a tiny financier with a plastic candle and dropped it on the table and walked off. The worst part about this experience was the mater'd. When we asked for an explanation for the poor birthday performance (after we had previously discussed that it was her birthday) he looked down at us and said "I don't know, thank you for coming" and I continued to ask for an explanation in a very calm and respectful manner and his response was a snide "thank you for coming". I've been in Paris 8 months now and this was the worst experience I've had here. I work in the restaurant industry and I will never eat at this restaurant again. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ON MY BDAY!!!!!I feel like we was taken advantage of because we was from america and we were black! My BF & I came here on my bday and we both ordered the salmon. I was not aware that it was smoked salmon, so I asked if I can have someone else. The waitress said let me ask I guess he goes to the manager tell him what happened and the manager starts Screaming at him!!! The manager comes over and said we cant exchange the food you get what you ordered! I start crying because at this point Im shocked never have I been treated like this at a place of business! I ask the waitress if he can talk to the manager one more time at this point I cant even talk. The manager comes over I explain to him how he is making me feel. He never says sorry after 10 mins of talking he says you can exchange your food. At this point I don't even want to be at a place like this and I was terrified they would do something to my food!
