My fiancé and I stopped in to try it out, hoping it would be similar to The Cheese Course which was the restaurant in that location before it. However I would say that it is not. We came in for lunch and at first I tried to order a crepe with walnuts and cream sauce and other ingredients but when I asked if I could get it without walnuts (allergy) they said the cream sauces was pre-made... I don't know if they had a plain sauce they could've used, but they didn't offer it as an option. I then considered getting the cheese plate (+$15) but when I asked what kinds of cheese it had, the options were really basic. I ended up getting the Brie and apple panini with a salad and was disappointed. Initially we asked if we could add bacon and spinach to the sandwich and they said no because it is also pre-made!! Not sure why they couldn't just open up the sandwich before putting it on the grill and add a couple things but whatever. The waitress offered to bring us sides of bacon instead and for two sides of bacon (six strips) it was $7.60!!! That plus two sandwiches ended up being almost $35! Extremely, extremely over priced. Perhaps their bakery items and coffee are what you should really go there for, but I don't know because we didn't try them. Wouldn't recommend at least for lunch. read more

I've not encountered a restaurant like this elsewhere in Denver. Bright, modern decor. Authentic fine, yet very accessible, French cuisine. It has a casual and vibrant energy and a very attentive staff that seems very happy to be there. Considering we dined there on only the day after the grand opening, I expect things to only get better. I recommend anyone try it. We'll be returning next for Sunday brunch!!! read more

The service here is wonderful and friendly. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food the two times I have been there. The omelet I ordered was not a French omelet which should be fluffy, tri-folded, and not browned. The second time I was here I ordered a baguette with pate. The pate was spread too thickly and appeared to be liverwurst. The accompanying salad was wilted, rusty, and too messy. A simple salad of butter lettuce would have been better. I tried this new place for breakfast today. I had high hopes, given the positive reviews. Also, the owner and the chef are French. I reluctantly give Le French Cafe this negative but constructive review. I have lived in France twice and visited many times. I ordered the buckwheat crepe as I am gluten-free. First, they sent the regular white flour crepe. When the buckwheat crepe showed up, it was suspiciously dark in color. It was so disappointing. Extremely thin and nearly burnt, it was tasteless. I have had buckwheat crepes (Galettes Bretonnes) so many times at the Bastille neighborhood market in Paris where I lived, and have a passion for them. I sent it back and settled for eggs and bacon, which were good. The salad with the crepe was unlike any salade verte you would get in France. Much more like a side salad at the Outback. They used little bits of romaine lettuce, thick slices of cucumber, grape tomatoes and a canned artichoke heart. The dressing was thick and sweet, not the lovely light vinaigrette ubiquitous in France, served on dark, leafy greens. The potatoes used for inside the crepe and, I noticed, for a side dish were tasteless, greasy deep fried potato squares that look like they came out of a bag. The owner and I spoke French and she and her cousin waiter were friendly and apologetic. I ordered cafe au lait, which I always get in France. It came in a tall, skinny mug and was mostly milk. I could not taste the coffee. The owner gave me a second one, and it was no better. I finally got just a cup of coffee, which was excellent. I owned a cooking school for nearly 20 years, and was so looking forward to a little taste of France in Boulder. I hope they can improve. read more

Place sucks, I worked at a French bakery for many years that was seriously authentic. Food was overpriced for what you get. When you get a salad you get the inside of romaine hearts. Mediocre. After spending some time in France I have eaten similar dishes at a higher quality for a lower price. I see a lot of these chic restaurants (especially French ones) that charge high prices for very unimpressive food. I had a savory quiche that was mostly empty of the vegetables and cheese I expected to find, though the dough was a nice texture. The potatoes that came with it were terrible, cold French fries. My partner had what was supposed to be a half baguette, but was rather small, and a croissant that she thought was actually good. The coffee was a bit watered down. Overall the presentation was much nicer than the food. I would have also liked more food for the price. I will probably not go there again. read more

I am not sure why this place is a 4 and a half stars. I traveled to different states and countries, tried different crepes. This one was the worse for me. Crepes are too thick like pancakes. Even the filling. We ordered their "Olivia" strawberry crepe and were expecting fresh strawberries. They served it with a strawberry jam instead of the fresh ones which is very disappointing. Everything we had for brunch was excellent. The hardest thing was deciding between all the delicious choices. The kids, who are generally not fans of French food, demanded we go back to try more menu items. Food & People are fantastic! Chocolate Croissants and Almond Croissants are the irresistible. The staff is super nice and as cliche as it sounds they really go above and beyond for to make sure you're happy. The only critique I have is the first time we went in, we were kind of confused on how it worked - like if we order at the register or if we seat ourselves or wait to be seated (it is the last one, if you're wondering). The tall counters and minimal design cues on how it works was kind of intimidating at first. Maybe a sign or something would help that. Not sure but at least you can stare at the beautiful treats in the bakery while you wait. read more
