I literally just needed to find a restaurant somewhere around Ann Arbor to fit 8 of us on graduation weekend. I searched for a long time until I finally stumbled about Le George. Northville is such a beautiful town. We were so happy to dine here, and our large party table was ready when we arrived! Highlights from the menu: grape leaf rolls and kafta brochettes. Everything else was good but not outstanding. I've seen some complaints about the calamari and I just want to say that it's not the normal fried calamari that restaurants usually served, but it's not bad! The owner was there and he was very nice. Again, I'm generally biased towards small business owners who are kind and provide good service. Not sure when I'll ever be back in town, but if you're looking for a restaurant to eat at in Northville, I'd recommend Le George! read more

My sister-in-law reminds me of how fortunate I am to be surrounded by great Middle Eastern cuisine. And I am. You can tell from the sheer number of reviews that I've written that I am partial to it. So I was anticipating both the meal and more importantly, the company of a good friend and mentor. Le George sits in our tiny downtown, amidst some good dining options (Table 5, Toria, Lucy and the Wolf). Both indoor and outdoor dining choices are available; I would have chosen outdoors but it was brutally hot to even contemplate. The restaurant offers a number of apps, including hummus, falafel, grape leaves, and spinach pie. I had the latter and was glad to try a different recipe. The spinach was boldly flavored with lemon and nutmeg and wrapped in a puffy crust, not the usual phyllo dough. I had wanted the whitefish but it wasn't available that evening. Instead, I went with the chicken tawuk and my friend had the shrimp gallaba. Chicken and beef shawarma, brochettes, and lamb chops are also available. The chicken tawuk consisted of 4 chunks of grilled chicken, seasoned rice, and a few veggies. Compared to other restaurants, the portion sizes are significantly smaller here. My chicken was inconsistently cooked (which is weird). Half the chicken cubes were perfectly tender and moist. The others were drier - though not inedible. We went to Northville on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. All of the other restaurants had waits of 45 minutes to an hour except this one. We should have known there was a reason. First, judging by the menu, they don't seem to know what kind of cuisine it wants to be; there is a lot of middle Eastern food on the menu, but their Sunday special was French, and other dishes seemed to be Italian. My sister and I both asked for iced tea, but they did have any! Seriously, how hard is it to put a tea bag in water? So, we just got water. They apparently only had the dinner menu available (they didn't give us actual menus; we had to scan the QR codes with our phones), so we were expecting full meals. When our food came, that's all it was -- no salad, no vegetables, no bread. My sister ordered chicken shawarma ($16) that was supposed to have come with rice, but the waiter didn't tell us that they had run out so they substituted some anemic-looking fries instead. The chicken was a little pile of chicken. She asked the waiter for vegetables since there was no rice & she didn't want the fries, and he did bring some, but it looked like a frozen mix. There was also some kind of garlic dip, but it was not the delicious garlic dip that most places have, this has a sharp bite to it. She asked for bread (twice), and she got a few triangles of pita bread -- in a baggie! I ordered a chicken and artichoke dish ($18). Gordon Ramsay would have been disgusted. The large, flat chicken breasts had been pounded pretty flat. The chicken was dry (although I don't actually mind dry chicken, so I didn't send it back) and had a kind of bitter flavor, and what I assume was mashed potatoes was served with it. Completely flavorless. And the whole thing was swimming in what I think was butter, but it was also flavorless. The server was not particularly attentive and didn't refill our water glasses at all. What a lovely surprise on a chilly December night. Enjoyed a wonderful girls night out last night. Main street has been closed and all the restaurants have tents and heaters set up outside. It was 26 degrees but the drinks and heaters kept us warm. The staff is doing an amazing job under such tough circumstances. We loved the calamari and grass fed burgers. I think the fries were perfection, they come with an amazing tangy mustard sauce. We also enjoyed some lemon drop shots with a delicious cheese dessert (pictured below). I was drawn in by the window menu--which included some delicious sounding burgers. When I was seated, they handed me the "limited" menu which had no burgers in it. So I ordered the sautéed calamari. For the price, I was surprised by such a tiny portion of tiny rings and bodies. The sauce was was too strong and overpowered any flavor the calamari had. It was too lemony or too hot (spicy) or something. When I asked the waiter what was in it he said he didn't know but would ask. He came back and said the cook would not say because "it's a secret". What! I wasn't asking for the recipe or a single secret ingredient. The waiter was nice but didn't check back on me until I was well finished with the calamari. The only saving grace (hence 2 stars instead of one) is that the owner (?) was very polite and attentive of me and all the guests. Oh, and the bottle of beer came out with a chilled glass. The bill came and my Atwater bottled beer was $6 !!! WTH???!!! Guess that's why beer prices aren't shown on the typed up and printed beer list. I highly doubt I will be back. They've closed of Main St in downtown Northville. It's a little Aspen like in winter. Le George is quaint and charming. The best seats in the house are the two window tables. Makes for excellent people watching and makes you feel like maybe you are somewhere else. Somewhere bigger. As other reviewers have mentioned the food came out real slow. What's the rush really? That being said while the jumbo shrimp weren't jumbo the presentation and flavor combinations were 5 stars. The portion size isn't. At $21 and given the wait which was long a little bread and garlic sauce or a small side salad with your meal would tide people over and shorten the feel of the wait. Haven't been to Northville in years - what a shame. It was lovely! Main street is closed to cars so there was a ton of foot traffic on one of the first mild days of March. After dinner, we spent some time in an art gallery across the street from Le George and then wandered up and down the street. Lebanese is my favorite cuisine, and Le George executed it beautifully. Some of my favorite grape leaves ever. Absolutely perfect baba ghanoush (though you have to like the smoked flavor - they clearly didn't microwave the eggplants). The baba ghanoush went perfectly with the grape leaves. The homemade falafel came out perfectly crisp - the spices were as good as anything I've had, and the texture might possibly have been the best yet. We dropped the kids off with family and went for an early dinner. Turns out they hadn't updated OpenTable, so our reservation was prior to their posted opening time. Since the serving staff hadn't arrived, George himself waited on us. He made us feel right at home and seemed truly happy to see us enjoying ourselves. He suggested we take one of the two window tables, and he was right - great people watching. On the subject of the building, the bathroom was very nice. Most importantly, the flourless chocolate cake (named with the much less appetizing "gluten free" label on the menu) was perfect. Exactly what it should be. A thick mousse-like cake with a layer of ganache, this is the standard by which other chocolate cakes should be judged. Chocolate lava cakes can be good, but they've got nothing on this. The Lebanese coffee I ordered was not exactly to my taste, but it wasn't the frighteningly thick gruel of some Turkish coffees I have choked down. My wife liked the Lebanese beer that George recommended. Entrees! The chicken ghallaba wasn't as saucy or overpoweringly spiced as we are used to, so this preparation actually allowed the flavors of the vegetables to come through. Very good. The lamb shank was tender and flavorful without being gamey. I personally prefer a greater than 1:1 ratio of vegetables to meat, so I actually finished all the tasty vegetables that came with it, and took a big chunk of meat home. Glad we had an early dinner since by the time we had finished and walked around downtown, there was a line of people waiting outside for a table. read more

This was my 3rd time at Le George's, It's been a few years since my last visit. (too long) We dined outdoors last night and surprisingly it was pleasant and very comfortable with the heaters. We were so pleased about that, especially considering it's December! I recommend it. The street setting was festive and cheerful with all the pretty lights and store fronts lit up. A friend, her one-year-old son, and I were walking downtown Northville, looking for a good spot to have dinner. We learned a little too late that it was homecoming, so our options were pretty limited. Fortunately, we came across Le George! I'm so glad that we did! Before I get to the food, I have to note how phenomenal and welcoming the staff was. The server was attentive and helpful, but even more outstanding, they were so kind to the baby! Not everywhere is as understanding, but we felt right at home at Le George. The kindness was notable. The food was also excellent! We started with the garlic mousse & the hummus. They came with two types of pita, one warm, one not. I'm personally a fan of the circular warm pita and would have liked a little more of that, but the variety is always nice! For an entree, my friend and I shared the Meshwi for two. It came with an assortment of rice, veggies, and of course the meat! Beef, chicken, and kafta were all tender and well seasoned. We had plenty to bring home as leftovers as the portions are extremely generous! The kitchen is open and the restaurant is intimate and small, so it does tend to get a little smoky inside. It wasn't bothersome at all during the meal, but I definitely left smelling like delicious Mediterranean food! If you are going to an event afterwards, this could be an issue. We git our new glass if wine with HALF the amount. Our first entree was served a full 35 minutes before our second entree - and when we asked our witchy waitress she acted like it was our fault. She kept making excuses about a big party but the place was literally only half full. The waitress was so bad that we might not come back but the food was fantastic. My friend and I went here for a Sunday brunch. The restaurant is located ideally in the heart of Northville downtown. The restaurant was short staffed. Sunday brunch did not offer great menu options. I tried a vegetarian burger which took forever to get to the table. When it finally arrived, I couldn't decide if I liked it or didn't. The drinks were good. The waiter was very courteous and was profusely apologizing for the gap in service. What made my day was the Turkish coffee. Very flavorful and served with love. They brought 5 wedges of pita bread, which was tough (from being microwaved?) for our party of five. Hardly enough for the baba ghanoush and garlic spread appetizers. In an area surrounded by other cities in which one can get truly fabulous and cheap authentic type Middle Eastern cuisine, I am not quite sure the logic behind this place. I'm used to huge portions of zestily seasoned reasonably priced deliciousness. Here I got small portions of blanded down at jacked up rates. Oh yeah, wait, this is *French inspired* Middle Eastern. Just a tip, the only things French here are small portions, the prices, the attitude, and the pretentious sounding menu. What you are paying for I think is the chic, hipster luring atmosphere. The garlic sauce in here works as does the bread, well what bread they will give you. Do not expect a brimming basket but rather to be on rations, tiny pitas and basically one apiece at a time. You can ask for more but you will wait for it quite awhile after getting a haughty look for the request. What do you mean you need more pita??? The hummus was good but ummmm useless when you have to beg for bread. It was hugely overpriced for the small portion and nothing special, I mean it was good but not anything you cannot get as good or better elsewhere. Also in my opinion when you pay for an app that obviously needs bread to eat it with you should not get attitude for asking for that bread. We tried two different soups, oh pardon me, *Le Potage*. I was not terribly impressed with the pureed red lentil, it just needed more punch, it was very subtle flavor wise. When texture is this bland you need something to make it zip I think or it just feels like a baby food experience. I did however enjoy the white gazpacho here, a cold cucumber and yogurt creation. I think it would be especially good on a hot day and it was also pleasant because it was surprisingly different really. It was the only thing I ate here that made me think, hmmm interesting. The kafta *brochette* I ordered was dry and fairly flavorless. The lamb chops were tough and again lacking something. The accompaniments were nothing to write home about unless you covered them in garlic sauce. Just nothing special at all. I really was disappointed. Where were the spices? Have they heard about marinading? Is this the French part? Service was not stellar, a bit of attitude and just not terribly warm or friendly. Refills of any kind were like pulling teeth, seriously. When I spend this really bothers me. This is not some quick pick up schwarma joint, they are selling themselves as upscale. Could have just been our particular server though. I don't think the best service in the world could have saved our visit at any rate. I guess at the end of the day if this were truly a fusion of French and Middle Eastern and it were offering up clever twists on classics in either direction I would be more interested. I was thinking it would be something special, something new and all I got for the most part was terribly uncreative servings of things I can find happier versions of within a half hour distance. TLDR: The service was so awful that the restaurant never even brought out all the entrees we ordered in an hour and a half, and we finally had to just leave. The owner of Le George then tried to charge us for food we never got and then got angry and confrontational when I politely asked they be removed from the bill. Also, some of their staff does not wear masks. ... I want to preface my review by saying I am incredibly patient and understanding that restaurant service in the age of COVID is going to have serious hiccups. With that said, the owner and staff of Le George should be ashamed of themselves for how they treated me and my family last night. The most unforgivable part is they tried to scam us and bill us for food we never received. We came in on a busy Saturday night and the hostess seemed confused when we asked if we could be seated....that should have been a red flag. We were sat and waited almost 10 minutes before a waitress took our order. Our drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time, but then our hummus order was dropped off by the hostess with no bread. I wasn't able to ask for it because she literally ran away. We were so confused....are we supposed to eat it with spoons??? Another 10 minutes passes and our server is nowhere to be found. I finally flag down the hostess and she brings out some stale pitas in a plastic bag....not what I expect for a $7 order of hummus. Meanwhile, we still haven't seen our salads that we ordered to start. Another 10 minutes goes by and a server with NO MASK comes out with 2 of our 3 entrees and leaves. She didn't bring my entree and didn't explain why. Now we get to the completely absurd part of the review. I sat and watched my wife and son eat their entrees over the next 20 minutes while my entree never came out. I couldn't ask where it was because we never saw a server the entire time. When I finally did flag down our server she says she'll go check on it. No apology or explanation. Again, I understand that restaurants are short staffed, but there was absolutely no effort made whatsoever to solve my very basic issue of not receiving my entree. She then goes on to serve other people, bring their orders and completely ignores us! My wife and son had finished their meals by this time and I am furious. I flag down the owner and he tells me they are checking on my entree. Again, no explanation or apology. I inform the owner that I won't be paying for my entree given the ridiculous wait time and the fact that my wife and son had finished their meals already. He then rudely YELLS at me "WELL I DON'T HAVE TO BRING IT OUT!" I was stunned and demanded my check. I honestly considered just getting up and leaving given the aggressive and confrontational behavior of the owner. The owner brought my check and there were several items on the bill we had never ordered or received. So you can now add attempted fraud to the list of things we experienced at Le George. I ask the owner to take the items off and he grabs the check in a huff. I pay my bill and leave. The most unbelievable restaurant experience I have ever had. Oh yeah, the food we did receive was very bland. Below average for mid eastern and terrible for the prices they charge. Le George is my "gold standard" for chicken shawarma sandwiches. I started eating there almost 8 years ago, and now that I've moved away, it's always on my list when I come back to Michigan. George is incredibly kind and always checks in when I'm there - he's always wonderful to speak to. My general menu favorites are the shawarma, pastry cigarettes, ghallaba, and Beirut nights. The moscato wine is my favorite too - it's perfect to enjoy sitting outside during the summer! I actually had my high school graduation party catered by him, and it was absolutely WONDERFUL. I still think about how delicious everything was! One thing I miss is his honey-garlic sauce that he used to serve with his pita bread - I could eat that forever! read more

Gluten Free Review: love this spot so much! They do not have a designated gluten free menu, but the staff is very knowledgeable on what you can and can't order. The owner is also extremely nice and accommodating. I always order the koosa (stuffed squash) with rice, it's one of my go-to's. The meal is a little bit pricier than other Mediterranean spots around metro Detroit, but you will not be disappointed with portions or taste. Le George is an upscale Lebanese restaurant. I was a bit confused by the French sounding name as the menu is primarily Middle Eastern. All of the basics Middle Eastern items are there, just a more refined version. The restaurant offers both interior and exterior seating. The interior is fairly small, but comfortably low light and nicely decorated. The service was excellent. Our server brought pita and whipped garlic to the table (we also ordered hummus separately). I thought that their pita, a small version, was average. I did like the complimentary garlic. All of the food we ordered was very good. The chicken was much better than average, well cooked and flavorful. The dressing on the fattoush salad was also made in house. The owner, George, came over to check on us to make sure we were enjoying our meals. He was very friendly and sweet. The personalized service was appreciated by our group. read more

I hadn't been back to Le George since moving to Los Angeles 6 years ago and they STILL have the best fatoosh dressing and makanek I've EVER had!!! We were able to dine outside on a chilly night but they have many heat lamps that helped us stay warm while dining. We also had the chicken artichoke dish which was delicious. I'm still kicking myself for forgetting to order some pita with their garlic spread, as that used to be one of my favorites as well. I will definitely come back before I leave town again. read more

Misleading and miscategorized as being "French". Badly fused French/Mediterranean fare with silly French names. It was also absurdly over-priced for the quality/freshness of the food served. We had a very pleasant outdoor seating experience for a group of 6. Service (by none other than "Cher" ) was excellent. She was super attentive and a real pro. Food was very very good although the lamb shanks 4 of us had was super flavorful, it was just warm.. Oh well... Just glad that the establishment is doing well as they were SUPER BUSY. Food is good but owner is consistently "penny wise and pound foolish". We stopped by for a dinner around 540 and noticed a sign that said it was happy hour. We waited at least 10 minutes to be greeted by the waitress and asked about the happy hour. She said she would bring the menu. 5 minutes later she was back and said that the owner said it ended at 6. We replied that would be fine since it was now 556 and we would order drinks right away. Waitress apologized and said she would honor it but the owner would not. This is not the first time this type of thing has happened. We were one of only two tables on a busy Saturday in Northville. Other restaurants were full. You would think that the owner would realize his policies are not helping his business. We left even though we had planned to have dinner and found another more welcoming restaurant. read more

My Papa is 87. He got $24-ish Scallops; huge unnecessary plate; 3 small scallops and a small dish of mashed potatoes. I was sad for him because this man only has so many years of scallop dinners left. We actually all got the MP, and ate it all. However, it was either authentic Lebanese mashed potatoes, or they need work. My father who is the king of mashed potatoes in our family whispered to me that they tasted boxed. I contended that they weren't salty enough to be boxed. Regardless, thumbs down to my memory of them. I got lamb shank and am also largely a vegetarian. It seemed like the thing to get there, and i was right. It was braised perfectly and so tender I just ate it off the bone Dad got Shawarma; unenthused. And the quantity of fries he got was a joke; I think there was 12 French fries. Stepmom and sis got stuffed veggie combos; delicious and where the value is Hummus/Baba/Tabouli app delicious, but a little overpriced for the quantity. Bottle of like 4% Almaza beer was like $6.50 but worth it to drink a beer made on the other side of earth. Service was spotty at times, but incredibly knowledgeable and friendly as hell. I had flashback from my time in Paris and Italy as I entered Le George. French Music was playing in the background and the smell of freshly baked bread was divine! The place was spotless clean. The food menu offers the right selection of Mediterranean dishes and the drink menu offers very good options of red and white wines. We ordered beef/lamb shawarma, chicken shawarma, kafta, and also tried the fattoush salad and kebbe balls. While waiting for our food we had a basket of freshly baked mini pitta bites which reminded me of dough-balls that are offered in Italy! Omg! My diet broke down front of those tiny little devils! I dipped them in the freshly made hummus and the fresh garlic cream. I would go back again just for those! The main course was generous and delicious, all spices were balanced, and all ingredients tasted fresh and of High quality. The kebbe balls were cooked to perfection. I choose the Argentinian Malbec to go with the food and it was the perfect match. Besides the outstanding food and service, what makes Le George so special is that George himself is there to greet and take care of all his customers. A little late writing this, but I came here for NYE with my fiancé and O M G was it sooo delicious! Obviously, due to Covid-19 nothing is functioning as normal so we sat outside, but right next to a heater. Our waitress was a little on the slow side, but due to volume of customers and a shortage of staff, but again all because of Covid. My fiancé ordered the burger. It was very good, but slightly over cooked. The crispy onions on top made the burger and the french fries were unexpectedly so good! I on the other hand ordered the lemon chicken and wowowow. It comes with three chicken cutlets, artichokes, laid on a bed of rice with this creamy lemon sauce. I HIGHLY recommend this dish. It's a huge portion, well priced and absolutely delish! We waited 30 minutes to be seated outside on the wait list which is fine. We waited another 20 minutes for a waitress to come to our table and then told us she can't take or food order yet because the kitchen is backed up. About 10-15 minute later we placed our food order. There was 3 of us at this very small table and only me and my sister were eating and we ordered burger and fries to Share. 20 minutes later , a gentlemen came to our table who I assume to be the owner and told us we have to get up because "we did not order enough food" and we had to go inside. It was so humiliating, it looked like we did something wrong. Then, the waitress came up to our table and asked us if we still wanted the burger basically kicking us out. We immediately left. This is one of the best mediterranian restuarants I have been to. The service is really fast, everyone is so friendly and professional. I am huge falafel fan and I was impressed that they have baked falafels. I chose, baked ones (they also have fried) of course, and they were amazing. It came with tahini sauce, salad and pickles. For lunch special they also had soup (lentil soup) that comes with falafel dish (4 falafels). Have to say - the soup was not that good, I am huge Ollies lentil soup fan and making lentil soups at home, and this one was not the best (I make much better, adding lemon and making sure its not too much blended). I think they used potato in it, not sure, but it tasted sort of floury to me. They also have italian nights, when they have italian chefs, cooking italian dishes. Another thing, their drinks are really expensive. However, I will go back again. They have amazing chicken shawarma dish that is soo tasty. read more
