    Brunch special menu
    Matt H.

Popped in for brunch one day and really enjoyed the spot. They have a mix of breakfast and lunch items, with a very different menu for dinner, and I have not gone for that. I had a pastrami sandwich, and it was great, with the right amount of spice and more importantly (for me), nice chunks of fat in the pastrami. This is not supposed to be a lean corned beef. I need to get back and try more options, as well and hit it up for dinner, but it made a very good first impression.

We were lucky enough to try their loco moco before it officially hit the menu. Our server told us they were serving it, and honestly, everything we tried was actually really good! The menu is definitely on the pricier side, which is probably the only reason I'd take off a star. But the minimalist aesthetic and cozy vibe make the place so nice, especially since it's located at the French Historic Park. Worth checking out if you're in Santa Ana!

Le Hut Dinette is a restaurant that's owned by Michelin-recognized Heritage BBQ from San Juan Capistrano. They take delicious grilled proteins and chef them up into really interesting entrees. Several dishes take BBQ and they add influence from Filipino and Californian flavors. Started off with blue corn sourdough that was baked next door at 6100 Bread and served with tallow and lemon butter. It was chewy, creamy, with hits of lemon. We then had a grilled mushroom arroz caldo, which is a Filipino-style rice porridge that gets tons of flavor from garlic and fried shallots. What takes it to another level is that they have perfectly charcoal grilled maitake mushrooms that gives a smokiness to the porridge that's amazing. As you eat, you get pops of acidity from pickled fresno chiles and the grilled mushrooms are brushed with an addictive ancho glaze. This is an amazing, balanced dish. Our main course was a Kurobata pork belly chop that was pan roasted and grilled over charcoal and topped with a subtle strawberry-guajillo BBQ sauce and a refreshing coleslaw with a dressing that reminded me of sweet vinegar with chili that's often served with rich, fatty Filipino pork dishes. I'll definitely come back for brunch and dinner. Fusion restaurants are often gimmicky, but Le Hut Dinette skillfully balanced flavors without cutting corners. You could taste delicious sauces, perfectly grilled meats, and brightness and acidity to round things out. Some of the dishes represent Filipino flavors and these were very well thought out. Their mushroom arroz caldo, for example, was probably the best lugaw (Filipino term for rice porridge) that I've ever had. I look forward to coming back soon!

I came across a YouTube video about Le Hut Dinette a couple weeks ago, and finding out that it was the sister restaurant of Heritage Barbecue, it was a must try since I loved Heritage at the times I went. So, I came here on a Saturday night with a reservation for 5 people and it was an interesting experience to say the least! I really liked the retro diner vibes and the place looked pretty sleek. However, when it came to ordering (which I was eyeing the beef ribs for 2), and the first thing our server told us was that it was sold out. For peak dinner hours, to run out already on a popular dish at 7:30 is disappointing to say the least. So, I had to audible to the tri tip roast, which was good at least, but it was not like the beef ribs that I have tried from Heritage Barbeque a while back. It was also weird that they also ran out of chicken too, which one of the couples at the that table wanted, so they had to switch to the pork belly. Luckily, the dishes we ordered were all good...but it just felt weird to me that they ran out of some food already and it wasn't even near closing. That's like me going to In N Out wanting a double double, only for them to be like "sorry, you are going to have to opt for only a hamburger" instead. I would like to give Le Hut Dinette another chance since I have tried Heritage in the past and the barbecue is bomb, but I honestly did not expect them to have inventory issues at prime dinner hours. The server apologized for the issues due to their early afternoon rush and for how busy they were, but that still didn't really make up for the unavailability of the beef ribs. Perhaps I'm salty because I legit drove an hour down from LA to the OC for a product that I didn't even get to try (with a reservation!) So the final verdict, food was good and the service was nice, but not being able to order the beef ribs and some other dishes unfortunately made what could have been a 5 star experience into something of a 3-3.5 star experience.

Delicious food and such a gorgeous atmosphere. We've been here for brunch and dinner now! We prefer dinner over brunch but it's the perfect mix of cute diner and hip wine bar. Whether you're looking for an elevated bite or celebrating an occasion this is the PERFECT spot!! Love their $1 mugs of coffee too. AND they use bread from 6100 bread, tortillas from Burritos Las Palmas, and meats from Heritage Barbecue! You're in good hands here

Great vibe in this diner. I've been wanting to try it for a while. We got lucky without a reservation. And the two servers were great. The food was rich and delish. Do not come on a diet.

Made a conscious effort to drive to Santa Ana to dine at Le Hut Dinette, based on good reviews. Our timing was wrong, resulting in a limited American breakfast that was decent but pricey; not distinct or delicious enough to justify the long drive. Le Hut Dinette has a informative website which I tried to plan to, but it gave outdated information and is not being maintained: it gives incorrect open hours tied to brunch, lunch, and dinner. The hours on Yelp and Google are correct: 8am - 3 pm daily. Also the advice for parking is true: need to find street parking and at 8 am, it wasn't particularly easy, especially with the road construction happening. What we later learned from our server (because it is not listed on the menu or website) is that the only things served between 8 - 10 are things titled 'Breakfast Things' on the normal and daily special menu. The other items are served after 10 am till close. And the dinner menu listed on the website (which contained the items that I really wanted to try (arroz caldo, chicken inasal, beef rib)) are no longer offered at all. So we chose from the limited breakfast menu (since it was the only choice). French Toast ($13) - the key word in the menu description is custard. Later looking up custard french toast, learnt that the inside is supposed to taste like bread pudding or creme brule filling, so it matched. The large one piece tasted good, but after two bites, couldn't eat anymore: just too rich for any of us. Bacon and Egg Sandwich ($21). It was well prepared, but wasn't to my wife's taste, with thick slices of chewy (almost pork belly like) bacon, and tart green tomatoes. I ended up eating most of it, and it was OK: really good ingredients prepared well, but just not something I would normally order. Came with tallowed fried potatoes, basically boiled mini potatoes, smashed and fried in tallow on a grill. These were top notch. Pitmaster Slam ($37) - two thick slices of smoked brisket, two eggs, and the same great tallowed fried potatoes. The brisket is top quality carefully smoked, and would have been great if served after preparation, but tasted exactly what it was: reheated from the previous day fast, instead of very slowly which would have remelted all the beef butter nicely through the meat. It did come with some amazing toast: toasted blue corn sourdough from the next door 61 Hundred bakery. Service was OK but slow, friendly as I asked more questions after our meal, just to try to make myself feel a bit better for coming all the way out here. The dishes took a while to be prepared (30+ minute), so after a while, my wife and Mom went to the bakery next door to get bread while we waited. Like a diner, only drip coffee was offered (though a bargain at $1). No hot tea, only iced tea ($3). The dishes were all served together immediately, hot, which I appreciated. Nothing was done incorrectly, but nothing really stood out either (except for the two food items mentioned). It's a confusing dichotomy...looking at the website, it appears as a fine dining establishment, taking reservations through OpenTable ; requesting a credit card to hold the reservation; prices on the higher side; items no longer available because they are considered 'seasonal'. But the food, dining area, service is definitely that of a LA diner (though the speed of food prep wasn't).

Food and service are more than amazing! Chris is the best! We will definitely come back from San Diego!

Chief wine on the wine list!

Some of my friends have been wanting to take me to Le Hutt Dinette for quite some time, and we finally had the opportunity to snag a reservation. We were slightly disappointed to see that they only serve lunch on Thursdays and not dinner, but it is good to know since we will be back to try the dinner menu on another day. We ordered a little bit of everything because we could not help ourselves and wanted to sample as much as possible. We got the coleslaw, blue corn toast, Caesar salad, smashburger, California burrito, and fried chicken sandwich. Everything was absolutely delicious. Not a fry was left behind! We did end up taking the rest of the California burrito home because it was huge, which is definitely not a complaint. We finished off the meal by sharing the chocolate bibingka with oven roasted strawberries, which was incredible. Another fun thing to note: Le Hutt carries a wine from Native Hands, a winemaker local to Southern California. It was very cool to see it on the menu. I love the vibe of the place, and the service came with a smile. We will definitely be back for dinner at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Diner food, friendly staff, and amazing food! What more could I possibly ask for?! We didnt have a reservation but we were able to sit at the counter and were promptly attended to. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and my husband ordered the pastrami sandwich. Both were delicious and the bread so soft! We would love to come back for breakfast sometime.

My husband and I came here for dinner Saturday night and had a nice time. The building's architecture is really retro and cool, and the service is great. We started with the blue corn sourdough bread-which we loved (warm, salty and lemony). We tried the potato appetizer and I loved the spicy mayo-type sauce on it. We shared the beef rib for two with charred broccoli and garlic rice, and while it was a good Asian-flavored rib, we had hoped it would be more like the Heritage Texas style BBQ rib, which is more blackened and briny in flavor. Still very good, just different than what we were thinking of. We shared the warm milk bread pudding for dessert and it had a good orange flavor to it. We found parking across the street. Overall, you'll have a nice, unique meal here.

    Chili cheese fries. So good.
    Daniel T.

The chili cheese fries were no joke. High quality chili, well-seasoned fries, garnished perfectly with cheese, pepperocinis and thinly sliced onions. The Santa Maria slam, the breakfast potatoes stole the show. The tri tip with chimichurri very solid. And the eggs cooked over easy. The coleslaw was excellent. Balanced the meat heavy order on our part. The burrito en mojado was three meals in one. We took home most of the barbacoa and had a second brunch. Still had some leftover so made eggs and toasted some 6100 bread and had a third breakfast. Service was fantastic and the vibe is analog diner with a modern day spin.

We stopped by here on my birthday for a nice evening dinner. Got there a little before sunset. There's just something magical about eating outside during a sunset, especially at the Orange Plaza. The restaurant has such a cool look and vibe! We started off with the Hamachi crudo, salmon ceviche, and a bowl of clam "chowdah". The crudo was absolutely delicious, highly recommend. The salmon ceviche was really good but a bit heavy on the sauce for me. The clam chowder had whole clams in the shell throughout. That was fun to pick them out! For entrees we got the lean and mean plate with sea bass. It comes with salad and rice, we substituted the rice for black beans. We also got the skirt steak "bulgogi" which was served on top of mushrooms and bok choy with a sweet soy sauce. They accidentally brought out salmon instead of sea bass, but were very apologetic. They brought out a sea bass on the side and comped the entree to make up for it. Great service right there! The salmon and seabass were both delicious and cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and juicy, full of flavor. As a birthday gift they brought out a thai milk tea blondie sundae which was soooo good! Get it if you like sweets. I wish the owners all the best in their future endeavors, they created a great restaurant that many will miss. We ended up getting two beers since we went anyways but that's when things didn't add up. He kept telling all the other people that started to show up the same thing. These are reasons why it didn't add up 1) empty seats inside but had a line since 3pm and beer was released at 4pm 2) I don't think the people going for younger would just order one beer and not try other RR beers? 3) only one guy working beer counter and having to clean the tables and make sandwiches? 4) 12 oz pours of beer and keg with about 1984 oz would make it 166 beers. No way they sold 166 beers in an hour with one person working the bar and shop empty in an hour. They could have posted on their instagram or socials that they sold out but failed to do so. I'm sure a lot of people all night were disappointed to see that they didn't have it or post anything about it.

Unfortunately, the scone was the biggest disappointment as it was quite dry and I wasn't a fan of the walnuts. The pizza and burger, however, were both solid choices but nothing that stood out. After taking our order, our server never came back to check on us, refill our water glasses, or see if we needed anything else. One thoughtful touch was having sinks located outside the restrooms for anyone who just wanted to wash their hands. That said, the restroom layout felt a bit awkward. The doors were difficult to maneuver, especially with the toilets located immediately inside, and the toilets themselves were noticeably low. Parking can be challenging on weekends, particularly during the breakfast and lunch rush. Most of the nearby street parking is metered and while we only paid about $3.40 for two hours, finding an available spot might take a bit of patience.

The food was excellent. I ate fairly quickly because I already felt kind of weird from feeling like I don't belong and asked someone for my check and box. The gentlemen who did help me was incredibly warm, which I appreciate. I wish I got his name. He made this dinner a bit more pleasant. Then after the dinner was over I left so quickly I forgot my phone and the host that night was also very sweet. Despite that one lady server, the food, male server and female host made it a lot better.
