I can't even believe how amazing the scents they create here are! Seriously, their Santal 33 changed my life, in more ways than one. Ever other fragrance house just smells cheap and boring in comparison these days. Anyway, this location is my preferred location for the simple reason of customer service. At the Venice store I was practically ignored the entire time I was there, apart from a vague hello when I walked in from the bored looking girl behind the counter. The girls who work at West 3rd are perfectly friendly and willing to help, without being overbearing. Not only that but they're incredibly knowledgable! I didn't have a single question they couldn't answer. They made perfect recommendations when I told them what I was looking for and they didn't try to push me into purchasing. Instead they recommended buying samples first, to make sure I liked the scent and to make sure it worked with my body chemistry. I absolutely love this place! Their experience from start to finish is excellent: Staff greets you, they let you sniff away at all their goodies on display, and they're friendly when they answer questions - no pressure what so ever. A lot of places cut back on service, but they certainly add it on here. You will also get personalized labels on your perfume (a cute feature). Coming from a candle lover, can't get any better than the Santal 26. As for the store, it's simple which showcases their products. (Unlike some places where one gets confused with products sitting on top of each other). The aroma in the store is simple, clean and not over powering. Finally, the service was excellent. I love how the scents change so dramatically from the point of first application and a 1/2 hr later. Just wonderful! Lot's of interesting and complex scents that are not in your face and pop'ish, My advice is don't rush, test all the various scents out and let them settle on your skin and experience how dramatically they change as they open up. I hate to sound corny but a lot like opening a bottle of wine and tasting periodically as it decants. Worth checking out even if you don't purchase anything. read more

My experience at Le Labo has always been such a fun journey. I especially have to tip my hat for customer service I received from Remington and Scarlett on different occasions. They were both so sweet and friendly and really took the time to listen to what I liked and help me find smells I never new existed. The experience of watching your personal bottle being made fresh for you is a one of a kind experience. Definitely call ahead and see if you can catch one of these two cuties as I have encountered some sower pusses as well. They really love what they sell and make it a joy to drop a bunch of money just to smell great! read more

I'm in love!! This store is so cute and I love that they make the perfume for you! Especially love that you can customize the label on your bottle! It is pricey, but it's not like you go through a bottle of perfume in a month, so whatever. There weren't a ton of scents that I truly loved. I got the Bergamont 22, and if I were a guy I'd get Oud. It's Estée Lauder. Le Labo is Estée Lauder. I'm not paying $180 for 50 milliliters of Estée Lauder, not no way, no how. It's insulting. I don't care if the Emperor of Japan chopped down those ding-dang sandalwood trees, and the Queen of England stomped the jasmine flowers herself. Estée Lauder is Estée Lauder. In fact, Le Labo's prices have shot up like a rocket since Estée Lauder took over - BOO! /(ò0ó)\ Especially since these scents, while lovely, are often very simplistic - and Le Labo as much as boasts this by listing the number of ingredients in the fragrance names - there's no reason that a bottle that's mostly perfumer's alcohol and 3%-5% chemicals should cost $180. The rose? Almost certainly phenethyl alcohol, not rose concrete. No one uses rose concrete; not only is it ridiculously costly, but phenethyl alcohol just smells more like roses than real rose concrete. No matter what the salespeople tell you, there's no way a bottle of Le Labo costs even 5% of what they're charging, inclusive of labor and packaging. The kind of "It's illogically expensive so it must be awesome!" logic that sustains Le Labo and other such brands just infuriates me. Even after all these years of living in L.A., I'm still nonplussed at how such companies get away with selling the Emperor's New Clothes. read more

THIS PLACE SMELLS INSANELY GOOD. bought a couple discovery kits (5 samples for $30) for friends after receiving one myself at a white elephant. This of course was the one gift everyone kept stealing from each other but I was the lucky one to walk away with it at the end of the night! So, I had to go back and purchase one for every one of my friends that tried to steal the gift at the white elephant party as a surprise. Le Labo custom mixes the scent as you wait so the oils are at its peak freshness (cologne oils DO expire, you know...) They further customize your scent by adding your name on the label and the date it was created. Talk about personalization. This melrose location has their own exclusive scent, MUSC and it. is. heaven. Can really work on males or females. I'm a female but prefer scents like this that aren't overly floral smelling like your grandma. read more

Let's get past the obvious. The smells are amazing. Then I've got some issues: A) I was in there today and a woman came in and said she just bought a bottle the other day, dropped it, and it shattered. She brought in the broken bottle and asked if there was ANYTHING they could do. The short brunette just told her that it was "like buying an iPhone, breaking it, and bringing it back"...and just dismissed her. Le Labo isn't Apple, woman! A 5-10% discount for a customer that just wasted $200 would kill you? How bout a new bottle at the refill price? There are so many better ways to have handled it. Eventually the customer just bought another one -- something I would have never done. B) They raised their prices a few times over the years. A bottle that used to cost $135 now costs $160 for no reason except that we need to pay their rent. C) This is opinion, but the girl that's always there isn't warm or welcoming and a bit too "by the book." The blonde is a nice girl that makes me want to spend time in the store. If you love patchouli, do not buy the patchouli 24. the description notes a smokey, leathery birch scent that takes over... not at all.. it's an offensive baby powder-vanilla parum scent.. the kind that lingers down a hall or on an elevator. smells very old lady. not even a suggestion of patchouli...Just glad I bought samples as all sales are final. read more

Mr. Jack, one of my favorite yelpers and an all-around nice guy, "introduced" me to Ms. Heather when he discoverd we were both kind of perfume-crazy. I like to buy them, she makes them (she's a chemical analyist, and specializes in perfumes). She also runs this fab shop, into which I wandered into all stalky-like on a very hot Saturday after my circuit class (read: I was not smelling my very best). Heather and her business partner Tim made me feel welcome, and Heather gave me the ultra-vip "tour" of their products, going into all sorts of fascinating details about their various scents and even showing me some of the base materials and oils their gorgeous scents are made from. You won't experience sensory overload in this shop: the distressed wood floors and fleur-de-lys stamped tin walls are a soothing backdrop for the simple and elegant bottles of a variety of unusual and truly fine perfumes. Usually when I go perfume-hunting I'll encounter about 50% perfumes I don't like (anything too sweet, or flowery, or cloying, or bubble-gummy). This didn't happen here. The eau de toilettes were so well mixed and in such interesting combinations that I happily sniffed and sniffed and swooned over several (the Rose, the Iris, the Patchouli, and many more). Heather patiently sprayed perfumes on scent strips so I could get a "right out of the bottle" whiff, and then had me sniff the dry-down version (what the scent will smell like after about 20 minutes). I can tell you that this is a good practice, because after about 6 hours, several of them sweltering during a long hike, my Rose arm and my Sandale arm smell fabulous. This isn't always the case with perfumes I purchase. I'd also told Heather right away that I probably wouldn't be buying anything that day, and she was totally fine with it. But besides their wonderfully original and unusual perfumes, here's what makes Le Labo super-cool. Once you've chosen your scent, they'll make it for you in the store, and then type your name (or any name you'd like) right on the label. The labels, by the way, are pared down and chic, very sleek and hip looking. Before I leave for Miami, I just may treat myself to a small bottle of the....yikes, I don't know! I love them all. Really. If you're on Third, stop in and pay Heather and Tim a visit. You'll leave with a snootful of dreamy scents, ready to smell the exhaust fumes from Range Rover Central--err, I mean Third St. read more

Ok, since I didn't actually purchase anything, you know this place is top notch since I feel compelled to give it 5 stars without knowing exactly what I might go home with, but if the customer service and thoroughness of Juan Miguel is any indication, I know complete satisfaction would be in my future. A friend and I were strolling West Third Street last Saturday and being the perfume aficianado that she is, she was practically pulled into Le Labo by the nose! The place is so clean and fresh smelling (not overwhelming like an Abercrombie Fitch store you can smell a mall away), that each sniff of their scents isn't muddled into one gross floral, musky, spicy scent-off. Juan Miguel patiently took us through the process of how we would go about finding a suitable smell and then explained how they mix the scent fresh before sending it off with you. I found my perfect match and when I went to write it down for my own sake, Juan beat me to the punch and jotted down my preferred perf to save on Le Labo's wish list. The best part, when (not if) I do steer someone Le Labo's direction for the holidays, my scent will be neatly packaged with a name-sake label of yours truly! I don't understand when one walks into an establishment to treat a potential customer with such rudeness. i like this location a lot more than the one in Venice, much nicer sales staff. not gonna lie, the prices are def higher than stuff that you'd get at sephora, however the scents are totally unique and it's really enjoyable to watch your perfume being made in front of you. i also love that everything is pretty gender neutral scent wise. also psyched because they have essential oil versions of all the fragrances. this is great if you want something that's more affordable, has less throw, and is pre made. read more

This place is amazing! Like the name suggests, it really is like being in a lab. Heather was very knowledgeable and happy to to talk about the scents with us. She even offered us a hot espresso served in a beaker. The service was fantastic, and I didn't feel intimidated at all, even though I don't usually wear any fragrance or know anything about it. It wasn't really as expensive as it could be, and the cool thing is you get a discount if you come back with your empty bottle (which, by the way, has your name on it!). My office for the past 4 years has been located across the street from Le Labo and I have never noticed it until one day with my friend I smelled this wonderful musky perfume and had to ask her where she got it from. She mentioned Le Labo and after Yelping it what do you know, its in my neighborhood. I immiedietly went in and purchased a small Santal 33, which is made to order. I've never seen that before for a cologne/perfume. They mix it right there in front of you. The lady behind the counter is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. five glowing stars for being very friendly and helpful..Rachel was our SA. I bought Patchouli 24 and have been wearing it every day since (my other fragrances feel neglected) and Mr Q has been wearing his Oud 27 quite a bit too. We bought the smallest sizes available but I have a feeling I'll be reordering a larger bottle next time. Also wonderful was the Iris 39 and some of the room sprays like the Pin 12 and Anis 24. Le Labo fragrances are divine. My mother and I have a pretty vast collection of fragrances, but my absolute favorite are the ones from Le Labo. I first discovered Le Labo at the Park Hyatt in DC, where their toiletries feature the Bergamote-22 scent -- a lovely scent, appropriate for all genders. I have since found other scents that I also enjoy from Le Labo and although their products are quite pricey, they are absolutely worth it. Additionally, I love that their products are made to order and the personalization is a very nice touch. read more

So here I am at home still smelling of Rose 31 and Musc 25 the L.A exclusive and wondering why can't the rest of life smell this wonderful? That being said, i visited the lab Friday 03.06.09 and instantly felt welcomed by Heather, the amazing fragrance expert here. Her greeting was more like I went to visit a friend at work and not shopping for perfume (of which I had been doing all day.) She took the time to explain so much of what goes on in perfumery, she let me sample so many of what I thought were my favorite smells in their pure form. She explained ambergris (I finally got to use that word in conversation!) I went with the intention of rediscovering their collection, but after talking with Heather, I drove home making out a mental list of what order I'm getting the scents i want in.
