I can only say that having served in Vietnam (Army), this is some of the finest Vietnamese food I've tasted outside of Vietnam. I'm not from the Midwest, and have eaten Vietnamese all over the US. The owner is always is pleasant and greets his guests as if they're family. If you're in a hurry, Xin Loi (sorry about that). When my daugher, who lives in another state visits here, we ALWAYS have dinner at Le Makong. Even my wife who isn't that big on Asian food enjoys dining here. Three of us stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We got right in and ordered a bottle of wine from their good wine list. We sipped on that and got in our food orders. We started with the Beef Rolls. Fantastic! Tasty, tender, and a great starter. It did take about 30 minutes to get our appetizer, and then another 30+ minutes to get our food delivered. For dinner, I got the Hot and Spicy Beef. It was very good, and had a good kick of spice, but still great flavor. Another in our group got the Ambassador Beef. It was also very good (not spicy), with fresh flavors. The other diner got Vung Tau Cashew Shrimp; also very tasty, with a blast of fresh flavors. While we weren't in a hurry, service was very slow, and we even tracked down the owner to pay our bill at the end of the night and we were about the last ones there. Definitely reccomend the food, but maybe carry out is a better option, or maybe we just hit them on an uneven night for service. read more

Disappointing experience for the price. The price point for the entrées are $20-$28 but the value of the amount of food (and flavors) that were given is more like $15-$18. For example, I ordered the hot & spicy chicken which came with a one bowl of rice and about a medium size bowl of topping. the spring rolls for $6 was only two very thin fried eggrolls. Also there's an additional convenience fee of 4% because I used my debit card. The food flavors are average at best. Quantity is low for what you had to pay for it. Vietnamese flavors are missing fish sauce and more developed spicy flavors. The atmosphere is clean. The service is OK not talkative. not super friendly yet responsive. No one needed to come fill water so after bringing the food there really wasn't much attention on our table of six. they were able to give us individual checks which we appreciated. It's a white tablecloth dining experience so you're expecting a little bit of a higher class the food, service and overall dining experience which is not prevalent the evening we came. Parking is going to be on the street or around the corner of the parking lot however I don't think it'd be too difficult in downtown Moline unless there's a big conference going on. I'd rather have pizza at Tony's down the road. Note my rating system: 1 Star: I wouldn't recommend 2 Stars: Didn't hit my standards 3 Stars: Average (nothing special) 4 Stars: Above Average. Food was good, we ordered Beef Pho they only have one selection of Pho. It was still delicious. The Kimchi egg fried rice only have few kimchi was still delicious despite small amount of kimchi. Restaurant was clean and definitely had an upscale mood / vibe. Monday night had maybe 4 tables for the hour we were there which is exactly what I wanted. Per the menu they have been open since 1985. Chicken Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon were delicious. Egg Rolls were crispy and you could actually taste the meat. The Crab Rangoon also had bigger pieces of crab, which I rarely see when ordering. Chicken Wonton soup was a little salty in my opinion and I typically like salty foods. Chicken Fried Rice and Hot and Spicy Beef were good. Not pictured is the Saigon Beef that was ordered to go. What a surprise to find an elegant to Vietnamese restaurant next-door to my hotel. I'm here for three nights, thank you and after tonight I'll definitely try this place again and try other fare. This is not your traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Restaurants been here for 35 years and have structured their menu to American clientele. The pho ga had a much richer, less subtle broth and it had wontons added. Not only was it not traditional, it was absolutely an unexpected delectable version of a classic chicken soup. The menu reads more like a Vietnamese/Chinese fusion. I can't wait to try more dishes over the next couple days. This part of the state is well known for great beef and a couple local diners tell me the beef here is as good as any steakhouse around. Excellent service, tasty unusual cuisine, excellent beer and wine list, I'll be back. Back Thursday night and tried the special recommended spicy chicken and vegetable stir fry. Perfectly prepared and tasty. Onions well cooked, Al dente broccoli complemented the moist sliced chicken breast. Sauce was sweet and spicy. read more

When visiting my hometown of Moline this is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. I have been coming here since it opened decades ago and it is so good. Very friendly, attentive service. The ambience is comfortable and cozy. We had a 4 top table near the fireplace which was a perfect setting for a cold winters night . As it was Saturday night, the entire dining room filled up, so it is definitely a popular seating establishment. Our food all excellent. My favorite dish is the ginger chicken. My husband had the salmon. Both were excellent. The shrimp spring rolls (I think that is the name) are the best I have had anywhere! Service tends to be a bit slow. Tony is the owner of this fine dinning Vietnamese restaurant. His wife does all the cooking and his son works waiting on tables. The food is the best in town! My husband and myself have been going there for over 20 years. And they have always served a great tasting dish. It's very quiet so you don't have to have a screaming match just to be heard at your table. They also have a bar to have a few drinks before, during or after your dinner. A large variety of wines to pick from. And if you like hot tea, this is the place to go. They have a lot to choose from as well! Stopped in for lunch with a few coworkers and I was very impressed by the food here! The soup we all received to start the meal was so flavorful and spicy. It had pineapple in it, which I thought was really unique. I had the chicken, veg, cashew lunch box. It came with white rice, salad, and two chicken egg rolls. It was so delicious! Drove up from Galesburg, IL. Made a stop here for lunch on my way to Wisconsin. The restaurant is clean. Arrive at noon. Bathroom is ok. Order beef pho but I got instant flavor pho. My husband and I dined on a late Friday night; we were one of five parties, including a large group celebrating a birthday. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and appropriate decorations, both cultural and modern. Our appetizer was the vegan eggrolls, served with a delicious plum sauce and chopped peanuts. It comes with two eggrolls; you'll want to get a double order! I wish I could read and pronounce Vietnamese, but since I can't, the menu provides convenient numbers next to the dishes. My order was a noodle dish and my husband ordered one of the curries. Both were incredibly flavorful and fresh! My noodle dish contained red, green, and yellow peppers; shallots; fried tofu, baby carrots, shrimp, sprouts, and celery. The dish called for poultry, but I asked that it be omitted (which they did no problem). Service was prompt and courteous. read more

The service was not good at all. The waiter took our order right away, and we didn't get our drinks or food for over an hour. I was in town for work and my hotel is right next to this spot. So happy to find some Vietnamese food when it's raining outside. Had to wait until 4:30 when it opened. Regular Beef pho was $19. A bit steep and it came out pre mixed with bean sprouts with and no side of basil, mint, or cilantro. I got the Pho Tai or rare beef and the meat was pretty tender, but had fat on it. Broth was also very salty. I had to down some water every time I had a sip of the broth. Atmosphere was nice with table clothes. Server was very friendly. Had brunch at their new Crepe Corner today. We were delighted with the quality of food as well as presentation and superb service. I had the Parisian Crepe which included a crepe of spinach, mushrooms, whipped cream cheese, forest ham and eggs. It was outstanding. You have to try this gem of a restaurant in downtown Moline. So we accidentally came upon this place one day because we were craving pho. At first, we were skeptical because we saw the menu and most the orders are around $15 and we were thinking like, this is going to be some overpriced place and the food is going to be mediocre, but that is actually not the case. Food was very tasty. First the broth in the pho was the best I have had. Yes, the tastiest by far. I think that is the only thing that had set their pho apart from any other place. Then we had the beef fried rice and the same thing, the seasoning was just right and we couldn't have enough of it. Some people might ask if it is worth the price, I'd say yes, it actually is. The family of Thơm Pham came to the USA from Việt Nam in 1985. Mr Thom's wife was the cook for years only retiring to have daughter-in-law to take charge of the kitchen. They have been exemplary cooks and deliver the best of a wide range of Vietnamese specialities. The sauces are fixed one by one to follow the recipe to the letter. Son, Tony Pham is the Host with the most and will fill your every dietary need. Foods range in spiciness from not spicy to very warm and "glass of milk" HOT. Items are clearly noted in the menu . I eat Thai food regularly, abroad and in the US, so I feel I can make an honest assessment: this is an excellent restaurant! The staff are primarily Thai. The food is delicious and authentic. The heat is legitimately "authentic Thai," but they do a good job for lightening up on westerners. They don't offer chopsticks -- because they aren't used in Thailand much-- Enjoy! read more

They lose a star for the slow, slow service. There were very few people when I came in, but the wait between courses was very long. A door somewhere in the building makes a very loud, painful screech every time it opens, which definitely takes away from the ambience. The food, however, was delicious. The spring rolls were crunchy and filled with fresh goodness, and the pho was not only tasty but NOT SALTY, which is unusual in the pho world. Turned off by how dark it was from the outside, we finally tried this place because it was in our coupon book. So glad we did. We had the Dinner for two, which included two orders of egg rolls, two generous cups of asparagus and crab soup, hot and spicy chicken, and a shrimp dish. We also ordered a large pot of green tea and a Vietnamese beer. I cannot say enough good about our food. Every bite was incredible. My wife does not like egg rolls, but loved these. They were light and crisp, and full of flavor. The sauce with which they were served was sweet and tangy. We saved the sauce, and then added it to the soup. The soup had big chunks of crab and asparagus that was still crispy. Both main dishes were amazing. The only flaw of the night was that they brought out the wrong chicken dish at first. That just meant we shared the shrimp first, and had the chicken second. We brought a lot of the chicken home. The service was great. The atmosphere was perfect. This was one of the best date-night meals we have had in a long time. So glad they were in the coupon book. We'll certainly be back. We've been to Pasteurs in Moline, which is the other well-known Vietnamese restaurant in town. We had a similar meal at Pasteurs, but I would rank Le Mekong as far superior. Went to this place for a nice date night and it was really good! The food was great and unique! The only thing that was a turn off was the wait. My date and I arrived around 6 and received our food at 7! (We ordered relatively quickly upon arriving) This didn't bother me too much because the food was delicious and it was partly our fault for not checking the time.
