This is definitely a HIDDEN gem. Located in 1 Maritime Plaza, I would recommend using the ground level building entrance on Clay between Battery & Davis. From there proceed past the escalators into a hallway. From there you can locate wayfinding signage that will lead you to the cafe! I ordered the chicken salad club which came with bacon and avocado, offered through MealPal, and was satisfied with size and quality. Service was quick and there were no lines at 11:30. Definitely a solid, fairly priced sammy/salad joint in the FiDi.

I remember how much I liked it. It is a tiny hole in the wall, easily found by smelling the wonderful aromas. If I worked downtown, this would definitely be my go to spot. I ordered 2 meals, each had 2 pieces of chicken, rice, beans and I think cabbage. Wonderfully flavored and enough to share. It felt healthy to me, none of this unnecessary goop. Let the ingredients and spices shine. Since hubby and I shared a meal, we have one left. YAY. The owner/chef is so friendly definitely recognizing his regulars. Highly recommend.

The entrees are deeply flavorful and full of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables including carrots and cabbage. I'll definitely return to choose entrees from their extensive carousel of items; one of us is definitely getting the chicken & rice! Super friendly service, welcoming atmosphere as if you're family. Sadly out in front of this coffee shop we got a $273 ticket because our wheels returned the wrong way. I actually didn't think that this street had that much of an incline, but safety first! What a happy note, my boyfriend won $20 scratch off here and his sister got $15 of another series of scratch off tickets! Lol as we congratulated each other on our weddings, other people came in. Their signage outside was what drew me in, the drinks looked vibrant and delicious. Upon entering the store I was greeted by who I assume is the owner of the establishment. I ordered an iced ube matcha latte and a hot mocha. Unfortunately both drinks were severely underwhelming. Just by looking at the matcha color, you could tell there was barely any matcha powder. Still i wanted to give it a chance so I took a sip. All I tasted was the oat milk, i couldnt taste any sweetness, matcha, nor ube. The mocha was a similar story, it was really watery and didn't taste remotely like mocha. Maybe I ordered the wrong drinks but it was a very unpleasant experience. Plus there were two beta fish in these small vases being used as decoration.. they looked pretty lifeless :/

Instead of just pointing us in the right direction, the person working gave us attitude about it. We apologized and explained that we thought we were supposed to stand where we were, and he responded with something along the lines of, "Well, the cashier is here, so you should be standing here." Just a weirdly hostile interaction over a very normal mistake. Then I ordered my coffee and asked for vanilla. He told me they didn't have any, so I said no problem and asked if they had another sweetener. His response was, "No, we don't. I don't do that here." I said, "Oh, okay, interesting," and he responded, "Yeah, that's why there are other coffee shops. You don't have to come here if you don't want to." I also asked for 2% milk, and again got a very curt "I don't do 2% milk," instead of just telling me what they did have. I happily switched to oat milk -- none of my requests were a big deal to me, and I wasn't upset that they didn't have what I originally asked for. It was entirely the attitude. Not sure why every interaction needed to come with so much sass, especially when we were being perfectly polite. Coffee was fine, but the service made the whole experience uncomfortable. Definitely won't be back, and if you're expecting friendly or welcoming service, I'd go somewhere else.

My wife and I tried V Cafe for the first time yesterday. She ordered the Unagi Bowl, which she liked very much. I ordered the Japanese Fried Chicken appetizer. While it's not exactly the same as karaage, it was close enough for me. Just as importantly, in a neighborhood where more and more restaurants are serving heavily salted wings, this dish won't push my sodium intake up to "headache" level. It was a little too gloopy, and towards the end I didn't feel like continuing. If I were to reorder, I would not have the avocado or the spinach in the burrito, and I would have potatoes and eggs instead. Other people in the group had bagel sandwiches which were really gloopy as well (half the avocado squirted out of one), multiple napkins were ineffective at keeping it under control. They ended up using a fork. For all that, it was a little overpriced for a to-go bagel sandwich and the ingredients were not quite what was ordered via kiosk. The poke bowl needed more sauce for flavor; it barely covered the top layer of rice. Order at a touchpad. There is a seat for one inside, but it's pretty cramped. There are two tables outside, with room for two people each. It's also near St. Mary's Square, which is a very pleasant park for to-go outdoor dining.

About 30 minutes after finishing the ice cream, I actually came back for a double matcha latte with 25% sugar. You can taste the premium matcha flavor beautifully alongside the milk without it being overly sweet. The shop is very small, with no tables or chairs, but they do have counter seating. There was only one employee working when I visited, but she was incredibly friendly and super fast! P.S. I just wish they would add a trash can nearby--it would make the experience even more convenient.

I broke off a piece of the baguette when I got home, and this was by far one of the best baguettes I've found in the city so far. I wasn't sure what to order, so I ordered the first 2 items I saw: the seasonal twice-baked croissant and some brioche curry/turmeric-based pastry? (I couldn't find it on the site lol) The seasonal twice-baked croissant was amazing! It was a blueberry croissant filled with blueberries and blueberry jam within. They didn't hold back on the filling. There was an almond crumble on top of the croissant, which added so much more taste and flavor to the pastry itself. Like I was truly in awe. The second pastry I ordered, which I didn't take a photo of, was the brioche curry/turmeric-based pastry. I didn't read when I ordered it, so I ate it completely surprised by the taste. I love a savory pastry, which was a perfect addition for my lunch. The flavors were good, but the turmeric flavor was a little overpowering and not really my favorite. For the 2 I ordered, I'd say it was pretty good overall. For all the other things I wasn't able to order, I appreciated this bakery's variety of spreads and flavors offered. I'll absolutely be back for more to try!
