I had a show at The Great Star theater. I was hungry and had only 15 min before showtime. This was the closest to quick grab and eat. Fortunate for me even though it was past their 7 pm closing time, they still took my order and allow to eat there.. I got the tuna 9 grain bread. It was delicious and nicely toasted. I've been going to Good Luck Cafe for 10 years, and it's always a solid choice. They use fresh ingredients and their dutch crunch is really good. They're inexpensive too. This sandwich was incredible! Maybe one of the best I've ever had and it was pretty basic. The fresh bread really took it up a notch. I have been eating at Good luck cafe on and off for 2 decades! I believe same owner, the same lady was behind the counter today. I went in today to order a honey ham sandwich and a tropical fruit tea. Just as I remember it, the best honey ham sandwich that I had tried anywhere!! I remember back in the old school days, it was cash only (not sure about now, I bought cash again), they made sandwiches, a few breakfast items and tons of snacks and ramen. They are still serving the all the above PLUS they have expanded their breakfast menu and coconut puddings. AND they have expanded into the bubble tea business with bobas, milk teas and smoothies. Need to update their prices. The menu board says $8.50 for pastrami sandwich but the total with tax was $13.73. Not that I got mad, not at all. It was a good sandwich after all and I have lots of money, But still update your menu please. This is a mom and pop shop (used to literally be the Mom and pop) but I think they changed a little over the years. I used to come here when sandwiches were $6. They're slightly more now but what isn't these days. Turkey, chicken salad, veggie, BLT, they're all great here. Make sure you get the Dutch crunch and you're set. There's a few tables to sit inside but I hardly ever did. Veggies are always fresh and bread is on point. Only bad thing I have ti day is the eel sandwich is a little out there. I may try again someday but something about eel/unagi with the typical sandwich toppings (mayo/mustard) wasn't doing it for me. Check this Spot out and you won't be disappointed. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed Good Luck Cafe! I came here often as a child after Chinese school across the street. It seems like the owners have changed since I last came but it's just as good as I remember years ago. This cafe makes simple, delicious sandwiches. No fancy sauces or unique combinations. My go to is smoked salmon sandwich on Dutch crutch. You can add cheese and avocado for extra to your sandwiches. You have quite a number of bread to choose from: soft roll, white bread, sourdough etc. They make bagel sandwiches for breakfast. Closes around 2-3pm. Have various snacks on the side and beverages in the fridge as well. If this place was open later or parking was easier, I would definitely be coming here more frequently. Love supporting local business when I can. Great for quick breakfast or lunch if you're in the area. Tip: Call in your order so you don't have to wait and if you're driving you can double park and run in quickly. read more

I really couldn't understand how such a basic looking deli managed to score such a high Yelp rating. But then I tried it! It's a great value for tasty sandwiches at a very reasonable price. Ruben w/ Swiss on Soft Roll: This was a really great sandwich. The soft roll bread, when toasted, was almost like a pretzel roll with its chewy glossy outer layer and softness underneath. The generous dose of thousand islands dressing was great. The pastrami wasn't anything fancy like those carvery places that make it fresh in house, but it was still good quality deli meat. Combination w/ Provolone on Dutch Crunch: Seemed like salami, turkey and ham for a meat bomb of a sandwich. Has the typical toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles. Though in my opinion, not enough pickles. The tangy brown mustard helped balance everything out. And, of course, the crunchy chewy Dutch Crunch is always a favorite. BLT on Ciabatta: The bacon came in lots of wispy small pieces instead of large thick slabs. It was kinda unique how it got all flaky in each bite. Wasn't quite heirloom tomatoes and heritage lettuce directly from the farmers market, but was decent enough quality. Pressing the ciabatta gave it that nice toasted bread texture. read more

Prices for sandwiches are also pretty good. Around $12 for a pretty hefty sandwich. Only drawback is they barely speak English so if you need a lot of adjustment to your sandwich, forget it, they will not understand you. Speak slowly and point works for us. Hubby loves nothing more than a simple hearty all-American sando. He's not a fan of ethnic eats, except Vietnamese food, which he grew fond of after our travels in Vietnam just a few years ago. He was super excited though​ when I told him I learned of an awesome sandwich place ​from a random guy I met at a coffee shop. This guy was​ "sneaking" in bites of his sandwich and joking with me about "illegally" eating outside food on the coffee shop premise. He had just purchased the sandwich and couldn't resist. He touted this as his favorite sandwich spot in the entire City. He looked more than legit (and easy on the eyes too), so I followed his lead. I got the Turkey Breast Sandwich​ with extra avocado, which came to almost $10.00. Personally, for $10.00, I would've preferred a bowl of pho or an awesome banh mi sandwich at my favorite Vietnamese sandwich spot in San Jose for half the price, but Hubby and I split it and it was enough for lunch for the two of us today. I'd recommend their dutch crunch bread. Usually,​ dutch crunch is a bit hard on the outside and ends up being hard on the roof of your mouth too, but this was just right. Was it the best sandwich ever? No. I prefer freshly carved turkey meat instead of the standard deli slices they used, and from my photo, it looked like there was a bit of browning in the avocado. Still, it was legit and is one of the better sandwiches​ places in the area, located, at the edge of Chinatown. I really liked that this small and unpretentious spot is very clean and well organized, unlike its neighboring restaurants. One of my pet peeves is when businesses display their clutter for all to see. Keep your junk in your trunk! Just see from my photo how neatly stocked their shelves are of numerous miscellaneous items! The owners are also very nice and though they aren't fluent in English, they do their best to help. They even thanked me for coming by and gave me plenty of extra paper napkins without having to ask. Now, those are best practices I'd like to see other nearby​ businesses adopt! If I'm in the area craving a solid sando, Good Luck would be my first choice,​ and Hubby agreed. We'd be more than happy to support a local business like Good Luck by spending our $$ here. Pro Tip: Their 92/100 SF Health Safety Score is another reason to come. And opt for the dutch crunch! read more

This is a really heart-warming small business in Chinatown. I stopped by for their coconut jelly many times. Parking may be hit or miss here, but we were lucky and found street parking about a block down. Their storefront stands out with their orange canopy signage. I thought they were just another Chinese bakery and/or cafe, I did not know they had boba as well, until I walked by. It looks more like a mini mart and a small bakery/deli inside. I tried their Jasmine Green Tea Cheezo, since they did not have any kind of green milk tea. Btw, the Fresh Green Milk Tea is like a matcha milk tea, not a green milk tea. The green tea cheezo did not taste all that great - their cheese cream tasted a bit off, strong, and weird compared to other spots I have been to and it did not mix well with their tea, the drink overall was a bitter and tasted off. read more

Very much of a hole-in-the-wall deli that also sells boba, pudding, international snacks, etc. Food (5/5): I usually get the salami sandwich on dutch crunch w/ no cheese or avocado, but all of the free fixins (see bang/buck section below for more on this). Hits every time. My recommendation: Def get dutch crunch bread, you won't regret it. Service (4/5): Pretty solid. Sandwiches take a little long to make but that's how you know it's pretty high quality! Facility (4/5): FYI they only take cash/Venmo. The storefront is deceiving -- Bang/Buck (5/5): 100% the best value you could get. At the time of this review being written, most of the sandwiches are around $7-8 (unheard of in SF).
