Checked out yelp to find the best cheesesteak in town and Gambino's popped up. Took a little walk and ended up at this tiny shop on Kearny. The signs are bright, the ambiance is energetic and had a little buzz to it 5/5. The lady at the counter was friendly, bubbly, and welcoming. She was patient and answered my questions without making me feel I was holding up their fast pace. The owner came out and checked on those of us patron sitting outside and was very pleasant and informative, and since it was our first time we sent us on our way with pastries as a parting gift, service is a hard 5/5. Now let's get into the food!! I ordered the motherclucker and and partner the cheesestsake. The food was served within 15mins of ordering, and the smells coming from the boxes was enough to intoxicate your olfactory with the scent of grilled peppers and fried chicken. The motherclucker is served with its the crispiest fries, they tasted fresh and made in house, 5/5, the sandwich had two chicken cutlets on it that were well seasoned, crispy, and paired great with the chipotle and pickled veg, with the seasame seed bun putting it over the edge in flavor 5/5! The cheesesteak was also cooked to perfection, the cheese pulls coming off of it was enough to make me want to kick my no-beef diet (I didn't but was tempted)! The meat was well seasoned and cooked, the veggies fresh, and the bun chewy 5/5. This is by far one of the best places I've eaten at in SF! Check them out if you haven't. I was really in the mood for a chicken cutlet sandwich- this was in walking distance of my hotel so I headed out. It's a small establishment- definitely some wall tables to sit at-bar height- but just a few and they fill up fast. Cashier was incredibly sweet and fun to talk to while I waited. 2 outside tables were also full. Now the star- a delightful and fresh sandwich with all flavors you want from a chicken cutlet sandwich. Bread was crusty, delicious and satisfying. An old timer in a new location. Their menu seems very focused on hot sandwiches, which I'm totally supportive of. Everything I tried was delish. Cheesesteak: Not your typically Philly Cheesesteak. Very Italian with an abundance of delicious peppers: bell peppers, hot peppers and pepperoncini. The cheese was a blend of real stringy melty cheese, not Cheez Whiz ooze. The bread was nice and soft. And the meat, real thin slices of steak. Really hit the spot! Chopped Cheese (West Coast): Pretty unique. It's a lot of ground meat and gooey cheese and cooked veggies. Kinda like a poor man's cheesesteak. Hearty and more exciting than a burger. Final Stop (East Coast): It you love Italian cold cuts, this is the sandwich for you. It's got some many different types, I kinda lost count. Pretty much everything but the kitchen sink. They all mesh well together to give you mouth a buffet of flavors. Meatball Parm: The counterperson asked if I wanted hot peppers on it. Figured it was a standard configuration, so I agreed, since I like spicy. Gambinos just opened another location on Kearny and it's delicious! My office recently ordered from here TWICE -- once for breakfast and one for lunch and both times were good. My colleague told me when she picked up the food, service was very friend and the ambiance of the storefront was nice. I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon and it was huge! I had to split it between two sittings. The lunch sandwich was also pretty big but if you are very hungry, you probably could finish it in one go. read more

This is Gambino's 3rd location! I went in for their soft opening on 12/15/25 and ordered an SOP (sausage, onion, peppers) hot sub. Their sandwiches come as either "east coast" or "west coast" style - which changes the fillings and sauce. I definitely recommend the east coast. The SOP packed a punch! It had the most flavorful sausage and cheese blend, and had a nice kick with the addition of cherry peppers. (Pepperoncini and cherry peppers can be added for free). Other items on the menu include cheesesteaks, deli subs, burgers, and bagel sandwiches. There's about 2-3 hightop tables inside. My co-worker and I decided to try this place on our lunch break. We ordered online for pick up. We went to pick up, and the restaurant was super clean and new. Lots of people there. Staff was kind. Our food was ready upon arrival. We were in and out. We brought the food back to our office. I ordered a turkey and cheese cold sub. Gotta be honest, very subpar sandwich. It was fine, the quality of their ingredients were good. But nothing special. I added the garlic aioli and avocado to my sandwich for an upcharge and my avocado was missing and I couldn't even taste the aioli. Unfortunately would not come back here and my co-worker agrees. If you work in FiDi and are suffering through RTO 5 then Gambino's should be your go to lunch spot! We are always excited to see new food options opening near the office and Gambino's could not have picked a better time. What truly sets this place apart is Mohamed. He genuinely makes the experience. He remembers his regulars by name and by order and always brings the most positive upbeat energy no matter how busy it gets. It really brings back that pre pandemic Philz feeling where customer service felt personal and warm. If you know you know. The food absolutely lives up to the experience. I am slowly making my way through the menu and everything has been consistently excellent. My regular go tos are the Caesar salad wrap the chicken parmesan and the chicken cutlet sandwich. I have also had the cheesesteak the tomato soup and the burger and every single one delivered. And the fries deserve their own moment because they are truly to die for. It is no wonder the place is packed every day at lunchtime. This is the third location with the other two run by Mohamed's family members and while I have not been to those yet I am still going to confidently say this is probably the best one. The prices are incredibly reasonable the food is delicious every time and it has quickly become one of the best parts of being back in the office. I had the east coast style oil and vinegar on my sandwich. Unfortunately, they put way too much on it, causing soggy bread, and I don't think there was enough vinegar, salt , pepper, & herbs, it needed that pizazz instead of mainly oil taste.
