Why did we wait so long to try this spot. Amazing! My friends and I had breakfast here after a trail run and were a little hesitant because it was a fancier place then we expected. They welcomed us in our running gear and we sat in the covered patio. I had the Brussels and bacon with a perfectly poached egg nested on top. We had brunch on a Thursday and did not have reservations. We only waited a few mins for a table and sat out on the deck. Food did not take long and was really good. I had the burger and my wife had the chicken sandwich. Bread was a little hard on hers. We started with the Brie and mushroom dip. It was good but the center of the cheese was cold. Would have been better warm but still really good. The waitress was not very well informed but was nice and timely. We will definitely be going back. Great place. You should try it. read more

This is my second visit here. My first was about a year ago, great service, great food! Slightly higher on price but I was aware of this from looking here on Yelp first. Second visit this morning.... hostess (who's job is to be warm and welcoming to guests) didn't even acknowledge us. She was busy wrapping silverware in napkins. This is a solid five star place for food, service and location. As has been mentioned in several other reviews the price point is not for the faint of heart. If you have guests visiting from out of town and you want to impress them with a wonderful view, a unique twist on familiar dishes and a full bar. This is the location you want! Indoor seating is cozy and very comfortable. You can sit outside in the summer and winter (with heat lamps). The food may take a little while to get to you but it's because it's not mass produced, identically made dishes. But have a drink while you wait...just be careful at $11 a pop the mimosas will add up!! The crab Benedict is a winner and the brioche French toast with fruit is a good choice. You'll be tempted by the bacon and cheese French toast but I found the cheese to be (tasty) but really overwhelming. The roasted side potatoes were not crispy but we're very flavorful. The pear-almond tart was a real treat! Brunch was $60 for 2 and only 1 mimosa. My recommendation is to please check them out. They want your feedback and if you live in Tacoma you owe it to yourself to help them succeed by offering insights to help with fine tuning and perfecting a spot that you will frequent and support. read more

This is my favorite breakfast spot! I usually get the avocado salmon toast or the eggs Benedict, both are absolutely delicious. The real winner is their banana brioche French toast. So. Damn. Good. Definitely not a cheap breakfast but well worth the price. Also, the service is always amazing. I never had a bad experience! While waiting for them we saw two people seated and then get up and leave within a minute of looking at the menu. In looking at the menu ourselves (my dad and I) we saw a slim selection of options and prices were definitely expensive. If you want a traditional hearty breakfast do not come here. It's definitely more so fancy and not very many breakfast options they only have french toast and benedict's and everything else is more lunch type. With no question, five stars. I'm in love with this little restaurant in downtown Tacoma. It sits perched up on a hill in St. Helens with an unobstructed view of the harbor. Sel has elegant decor but also has a cozy feel which makes it seem perfect for a variety of occasions. It can be a casual place to catch up with a friend over brunch or be a romantic upscale dinner with your significant other. All of the staff were professional, courteous, and friendly. While having brunch, the executive chef, Hailey, even came out to introduce herself to inquire about my experience. I'm glad I was able to meet her, so I could let her know that everything was amazing. I had ordered a latte which was very delicious and came with a rock candy to sweeten my drink which was fun. For my meal, I ordered the fried duck confit that comes with a waffle and side salad. I enjoyed every single bite. Sel comes highly recommended. Gal who seated us was very sweet, she had only been working there for two days. Our server on the other hand was the worst server I've ever experienced. I started off asking about the flavored mimosas and wanted to know if they used syrups or different juices for each one. Answer is both depending on the flavor. I then asked for a kids menu. No they don't have one. I asked for a side of bacon and eggs. ($10) We ended up ordering French toast, pork belly Benedict, and new York steak and waited 45 minutes for our food. When the food arrived, I realized my tiny little steak was rather well done as opposed to the medium that I had ordered. We were starving and I ended up eating it anyways. About 4 bites into it, I noticed a small curly black hair on my plate. I have purple hair, so I knew for sure it was not mine. I also had already eaten most of my food and did not want to send it back. The server never attempted to ask us how our meal was, so any attempt to fix the issue, would have been for not. We made frequent eye contact and expressed our disappointment in our food whenever she would walk by our table and purposefully skipped over ours. No water refills - even with the big pint jug sitting on the table. No drink refills - I most definitely needed more alcohol. At the end of our meal, she asked if we needed boxes, and I responded MOST DEFINITELY NOT. She then firmly slammed our check on the table and said have a good day. Our bill needed up being $103. two mimosas - $20 Side of bacon - $5 Side of 2 eggs - $5 New York steak - $28 Eggs Benedict - $19 French toast - $16 the food was also served on small tea party plates, trust me when I say I've had better food at Denny's. A word to the wise, of you want a nice, well quality brunch - look elsewhere. Save your money, you will still be hungry. Our experience at Le Sel is almost beyond description. During a busy Sunday brunch (as most who've worked in the industry know they are), the staff were doing a great job, hosting and seating a whirlwind of people. While one table (unknown to me and my party of 3) were taking much longer than the agreed upon time allotted. During this mad rush Rodney (the owner) came to me and my group to offer a complimentary beverage for the wait we didn't even realize we were experiencing. As the ladies dining took their time (after being politely reminded there was a reservation behind them) decided to stay and casually chat, Rodney made the executive decision to go over-and-beyond, to ensure everyone in her restaurant was accommodated. She comped our ENTIRE brunch (beverages included), and we proceeded to have the most lovely meal, fantastic food, service, view, individual heater and blankets. I've never experienced such unnecessary kindness, and competence in a restaurant, from top to tail. If I could recommend just one dining experience in Tacoma it would be Le Sel Bistro. read more

Came here for a birthday brunch with a small party of three on a Sunday and was seated right away! We got an order of pancakes a la banane, aka fresh brioche with carmelized bananas and marscapone -- a must have at brunch. We also ordered a few omelettes, a latte (ordained with the beautiful rock sugar stick) and a pot of dripped coffee for two. The waffle portion was kind of warm but just two measly quarters of a waffle. The gravy was a bit too salty also. We got the $13 four cup press of coffee (surprise it wasn't four cup) My wife got decent but hugely over priced French toast. $50 for two peoples brunch, so so service and small portions. The couple next to us had to order a third entree because the portions were so small. They had a tiny $25 Bene. During my brunch, A lady came into complain about a meal/service and was very vocal about it. She was basically saying how her place of employment was superior blah blah. I thought the owner/manager handled it well, but then after the complaining lady left, the owner called that lady's work to complain about the way she behaved. Mind you- I was a party of two and we would be taking a two top so it wouldn't matter if I was seated a few minutes early or not. Totally get it if I were a large group, but for two people that didn't make sense to me. When my friend did arrive she was shocked I hadn't gotten a table yet, so I explained to her their policy. The owner overheard our conversation and got extremely rude and said if we didn't like it then we just need to leave and then went on to refuse to serve us. This went on for a few minutes. We explained that it was fine, just a little silly since it was just the two of us. I was completely thrown off because of how unprofessional she was. She didn't have one customer service type bone in her body. Moving on- ordered the french press coffee. Came with sugar cubes & creamer. Ordered the pomegranate mimosa but was served the blood orange one. No big deal- didn't want to "create a scene". To eat I had the open face poulet omelet, It was decent. Didn't have to wait too long for our food which was nice. I have been here twice, on a Friday morning and the following Saturday morning. For the price, the food is amazing. Yes, the portions are that of a $$ or $$$ restaurant (smaller), but I think the quality is still beyond what you'd expect for the price. I've had the following: -pork belly benedict: the hollandaise sauce isn't as rich as I'm used to from traditional American diners/cafes, but the richness of the pork belly makes up for it. -Croque Madame: only the second time I've had a Croque Madame, but it was so delicious! The bread had just the right amount of crunch - not soft but not too toasted either that it'd scrape the inside of your mouth. My entrees came with a small salad, which is a nice break from all the potatoes I'm used to for breakfast. I'm not particularly a salad guy, so I don't feel I can properly comment on the salad, but I'll say it definitely wasn't bad. Walking in, the place feels very trendy. The best way I can describe the music is instrumental slow electronic. I Shazam'd a song and it was Mexicali Hoodoo by J-Walk. There is outdoor seating if you desire, both in the back and in the front. The back area looks like it'd be a great spot for a summertime brunch - nice outdoor chairs and tables, and they have the same music playing out there too. The service is also better than what you'd expect. They seemed to be overstaffed on Friday morning, but appropriately staffed on Saturday morning. The food is brought out all at once, meaning your server has some help if it's too much for one person. I think the only thing I can complain about is the parking. They don't have their own lot, so you need to find street parking. Being next to some apartments, it can be a little difficult. I had to park a block away both times. read more
