I went here last night with three friends for two of our bdays this month, and we had the NICEST experience. I had never been before but the menu called to me. Everything we ate was insanely good. I especially was blown away by the Santorini salad (yes, a salad!), the Iberico pork, and the fettucine with clams. We had lovely wine and cocktails too. We recently booked a private birthday party for 25. Everything was good about this event and Le Sud's role in it. The food was truly delicious (every dish). The upstairs private room was cozy, welcoming and just the right size. Everywhere we looked it was spotlessly clean. With windows on 2 sides we were basked in sunlight on an otherwise cold and slightly snowy day. Sandy, the owner, was helpful, responsive and friendly throughout. On the day of the event our primary server, Michael, was helpful ,organized, and very easy to work with. He doesn't seem to know the word "No"! Whenever we had a need, he promptly met it. This was an impromptu dinner with another couple. No idea what to expect but right off the bat we had excellent service from our server who was friendly and knowledgeable. I would describe the menu as French comfort food. Lots of charcuterie, foies gras, escargot, duck, bouillabaisse- you get the picture. Our friends arrived before us and as soon as I sat down my girlfriend ordered the Glass Joe cocktail for me - she knew I would love it! I could not put this drink down. The frothy egg white on top was silky and the combination of the cognac and apple shrub was an addicting combination. I forgot to take a picture LOL! We ordered the foie gras which was presented as a tarte which was a unique presentation. You get the creaminess of the foie gras and some crunch from the crust. We also got the escargot, house made charcuterie plate and the clams. The clam broth was delicious. The favorite was the burger - I would definitely go back in a heartbeat for the burger and Glass Joe. Overall, excellent service, tasty food, yummy cocktails. Le Sud has been on my list for quite some time. I was very excited to try it because I had heard such good things. Our server took a few minutes to come over & greet us but it's a busy night so I wasn't worried. I should have been. We sat the same time as the table next to us and ordered at the same time (this will be important in a minute). Our server was friendly, but I quickly realized he & much of the staff I observed lacked the basics I was taught day one as a server. Number one is combine your steps. I watched our server take an order, go put it in the computer, come back and take the next order. When he did this, he never checked the rest of his tables. The table next to us received their appetizers and I thought ours would follow shortly since we ordered the same thing at the same time. But minutes passed and nothing. I watched tables that came in after us get their food and our server never checked in with us. No acknowledgement that our first course still had not hit the table. I thought when he dropped the silverware for the table next to us or when he cleared dessert for the table on the other side of us he would acknowledge that it was taking over 40 minutes for burratta and croquettes but nope. I started to feel like he was purposely ignoring us because he knew something was wrong. At this point, we're literally 5 minutes from walking out the door when finally, our first course was served but without the ciabatta bread we ordered. Luckily, our server did catch that and went to grab it. He then dropped it without explanation. It was served with 2 different butters (one of which was pink). Happy to just have food in front of us, we ate. My burrata was delicious but the crostini felt more stale vs toasted. The croquettes were good. After we finished our appetizer I figured there was no way our entree would take that long. Maybe they had lost the ticket or the server forgot to put it in. Surely they would make sure our ticket came out in a timely fashion. But again we waited. Everyone around us is getting food, the table we were seated with is finishing dessert, but no entrees. Finally I asked the server and he said he would check. Then the manager came and told us our entrees would be out in 2 minutes, which they were. But, my husband's medium rare steak was medium-well and dangerously close to well done. He was so hungry he was going to power through but I said no and we sent it back. Another steak came out quickly and it was...medium. He ate it, but we told the manager. I had gnocchi which was fine. At this point we were just over it. So we asked them to box up dessert and bring the check. They comped my husband's meal, likely because of the double medium well. Our server never apologized or even addressed the issue. I know many people think you shouldn't be critical of service right now, but I disagree. Going out is more of a treat because everything is so much more expensive. Also, what I observed tonight wasn't servers who were so busy they were overwhelmed. Several times I saw more than one server (including ours) standing around. And tables around us were getting their meals, so the kitchen wasn't totally slammed. And if it was, tell your guests. If at any point someone had taken accountability (the kitchen is understaffed, we lost the ticket- I wouldn't have been so upset). Finally, even with the comped meal, we paid almost $100 for one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Le Sud. The food? Consistently top notch. Drinks? Fantastic. Service? Above and beyond, and not just in the post-Covid-service-decline way. They are wonderful, all around. We also like that the owner, Sandy, is present at the restaurant and checks in on guests. We like the seasonal menu rotation while keeping tried-and-true items. I don't want to call out any particular items we've tried over our many visits because honestly they're all delicious. And their happy hour is *chef's kiss*. You can't go wrong at Le Sud. I am from Greece and I can tell you that this Mediterranean restaurant is the best little secret in Roscoe Village...: We ordered the best polenta I have ever tasted. The Spanish stew with octopus mussels and shrimp was perfect. The portions were generous and the price was very reasonable. The selection was just the right amount, not overwhelming large or too small.... just perfect. Our waiter Alysha was so nice and answered all our questions and helped pick out the best wine to go with our food. She was so friendly and quick with our order. Amazing service... We loved her! Ate here two days ago and had the best experience. The staff is amazing and makes every effort with covid--gloves, masks, etc. For the domes they have a $200 minimum and 1h45 max, but the people who made a registration there cancelled, and they were nice enough to upgrade us for free. The domes are beautiful, warm, and hold up to 6 people. They have a button to buzz for servers if they are not present and a speaker so you can play your own music while you stay. *the servers explain everything and are very helpful! For the food: we ordered the fried polenta cake and the grilled shrimp with piparra pepper for appetizers--both were insanely delicious. We also got the Verlaso salmon, the Chitarra Pasta, mixed vegetables, potatoes, crème brûlée, and chocolate torte--which were also great! read more

We celebrated our parent's 50th anniversary at Le Sud and had an absolutely wonderful night. The team was so thoughtful and asked for their names in advance to print an anniversary message on the top of our menus. It was a very sweet gesture and we will have the menus as a keepsake to commemorate a beautiful night. All the food was delicious (the french onion soup and trout were outstanding), the space is beautiful (they found a quieter spot for us to accommodate dad'd bad hearing), the team was attentive (thank you George for the exceptional service). We recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Le Sud. We chose the private room on the 2nd floor. It's a lovely room with French windows, a bar and a Mediterranean vibe. It comfortably sat our party of 24. We decided on family style with Morocco chicken tangine, Steak& Frites and Gnocchi as the mains. My wife and I decided to make Le Sud one of our restaurant week date nights. Upon entering we were greeted by the hostess letting us know it was restaurant week and that we'd have a two hour table limit. We were seated on the heated patio enclosure, which was nice and maybe provided a little quieter and roomier atmosphere than the main dining room. The server did a wonderful job explaining the menu and letting us know that they had expanded their restaurant week menu. We ordered a delectable Mediterranean salad along with lamb meatball for our appetizers. I ordered the steak and frites while my wife ordered the mussels. There were really no complaints about the meal. While the servers were very attentive, the service in general was a little slow. I wasn't sure we were going to have dessert brought out in the 2 hour time period lol. If you're in the Roscoe area definitely give this place a try. read more

Came here for Restaurant Week and enjoyed our meal. I had the French onion soup, Riesling chicken, and pear bread pudding. The soup was good and comforting on a cold evening. The chicken was good, though it was like any other chicken dish. My favorite part of it was the potatoes. The bread pudding was the star of the meal--I was pretty full by the time dessert came, but it was worth it. It was a busy weekend evening and the tables were extremely close together--we could hear everything the people next to us were saying, and you could barely walk between us. It was my 1st time here and they just got a new menu. I tried the fish filet and it was absolutely amazing. The fish crumbled apart and the skin was nice and seasoned and crispy. It came with just enough vegetables there was no need for an additional side. Tried the creme brulee. The waiter brought out a small baguette with butter which was tasty. The dish was a bit short so i actually didnt get as much of thr brulee, sugar was a bit thicker then id like but still yummy. The patio was so relaxing at night time, not too much traffic and super cozzy (during covid everyone was distanced) * reservations were made in advance. The service was exceptional. I'm glad I went to Le Sud. It's a cute place, good service. Walked in without reservations and was seated immediately. There is a front room that can be closed off for a private dinner party. The water they served was lukewarm. I ordered the bavette steak and asked for quinoa instead of the potatoes. The steak was good and well cooked, quinoa was okay. The sauce that they poured over the steak was very tasty. Tip: I recommend asking for an extra spoonful or for a little of it on the side. When I walked out, I realized that they used a stack of Sesame Street baby books as a doorstop to prop the front door open. It felt wrong, baby Bert and Ernie deserve more! I came in on a Saturday for happy hour with my 7 year-old son. The patio was great and felt like there was appropriate distance between the tables... Okay, writing a review during the pandemic is a little weird. Drinks and mussels were tasty, I had the steak which was great and prepared to the correct temperature. My son had the kids noodles which he proclaimed the best noodles he's ever had - that I didn't cook. Thanks for the confidence boost kid, lol. Caroline was our server, she was sweet, attentive and friendly. She's got a tough job on a Saturday when not in a pandemic so I can't imagine what her job entails now, but she's approached it with grace and humor - the mask can't hide the smile. Le Sud has been a part of our regular neighborhood rotation of restaurants for more than 4 years. To our disappointment, the restaurant has gone downhill under the current ownership. After our experience at our last visit, we will not be back. On a Saturday night, as we were perusing the menu, the waiter informed us that a huge number of items on the menu were not available. We understand that sometimes items sell out, but this was 30 to 40% of the menu not being available. We ultimately selected our food, and when it arrived, we were surprised by the very skimpy portion sizes. I am petite, not a huge eater, appreciate quality over quantity, and rarely finish my whole dish. In this case, I ate every last bite and was still hungry. My partner was also hungry after finishing. The experience was disappointing, and we will not be returning. At this (not inexpensive) price point, there are a lot of better options in the area. Definitely do not go out of your way to visit Le Sud. read more

Was a chilly night so people who had booked outside wanted to sit inside and they gave away our table. I doubt they would have given me a table outside of it was a lovely evening outside. No apologies. Just a "I can't tell you how long it's going to be ... 30 minutes minimum", after we BOOKED a table and specifically indicated we wanted one inside? Lesson to be learnt - even if you make a reservation, don't count on them honoring it. We had a 8.15 reservation and my child was starving and too late to go anywhere else. Thanks for nothing. Came here tonight with 4 other friends and this place is a winner. It's a really nice neighborhood spot that has a nice, intimate vibe inside. It's very much my style. Our server was outstanding. Really friendly, and kept bringing fresh bread and butter. We shared the faro bean salad and the fried polenta to start. Both were great, but the fried polenta was the winner here. It was served with a romesco sauce that was super tasty. A lot chunkier than I am used to, which I enjoyed. For mains, we got 4. We got the duck confit, seafood & chorizo stew, bucatini, and grilled fish (also with romesco). All 4 were good. The duck was cooked perfectly. The stew had a really good flavor (I couldn't figure out what it was, but it was rich and unique). The fish was good, probably my least favorite but the romesco was a nice touch. And the bucatini was cooked perfectly and the sauce it was served in was creamy and delicious. For dessert, we got the sabayon w/ fruit which was just like the sabayon we made in our French cooking class in Paris a few months ago. Just lovely- would recommend to all my friends and we will be back. Hard to please a picky family of 7 ranging from 5 to 75 years old , but Le Sud nailed it! The Iberica pork is some of the best I've had- still dreaming of it from last night. I had a bit of my husband's lamb on papperdelle and it was delicious too. Everyone else loved their entrees as well although unfortunately did not share. Entree sizes were not giant but more like a normal portion- this is a plus to us- so for example the scallop entree was 4 nice sized scallops. Pasta dishes were larger. We. Same here for happy hour. Usually we love it. We've had some difficulties with our duck egg fries having a perfectly cooked egg (should be over easy but we've had them come out hard- 3 times). But the biggest issue we had was the last time we visited for happy hour, where we got the roasted chicken. The menu does not indicate that the dish had mushrooms. Luckily, my husband had a taste from my plate that had no mushrooms. Otherwise, if he had any, we would have had a serious medical issue (he is allergic to mushrooms). I would strongly advise the restaurant to identify the components of the dish so that the customer is put on notice. It could have turned really bad for us. From start to finish this was an absolutely outstanding experience. Our server Carol was an absolute delight - professional and polished, extensive menu knowledge, and just so pleasant to interact with. The outdoor heated dining area was also a lot of fun. Big open space with heaters overhead, neatly decorated. The interior for Christmas was stunning...festive and fun, the miniature santa clauses parachuting overhead was worth many smiles. Wish I took a pic. Memorable and unique. And the food. Just outstanding. Our party of five each enjoyed the three course pre-fixe meal. Came here with a friend visiting from NYC on the recommendation of a coworker back in July. When we arrived we initially thought it was quite small and were worried about being seated, but then they revealed an upstairs with much more seating! The decor is very nice - upscale but laid back. The food was delicious. We had the octopus to start, which even my friend who doesn't love octopus thought was great. It was super juicy and a generous portion. I then had steak frites for dinner, and both my friends got the scallops. Both dishes were to die for. Meat was cooked perfectly and presentation was great. Bill came out to about $80/person with tax/tip and three drinks a piece so I thought it was quite reasonable. My one complaint is the service was super slow. From having our food orders taken to bringing out our drinks, everything took twice as long as it should have. What I anticipated being a 60-90 minute dining experience took a little over two hours. read more

Love these neighborhood type gems and this was the perfect spot for a more lowkey NYE dinner outing. We were in the heated outdoor patio, and it was definitely warm out there (in case anyone was worried). Also, def worth checking out around Xmas time, as this place is decked out - loved all the lil' Santas - so fun! Our server and service overall was perfect. I enjoyed their drink selection. I really enjoyed my Pinot Noir as boo enjoyed the Layover in Spain cocktail. We shared the cowgirl ribeye special. I was a little disappointed in the extra small scrap pieces of vegetables and the chewy-ness of the ribeye. The potato and lobster were forgettable. I also thought everything needed way more salt and seasoning and usually I am quite salt sensitive. While we did not particularly enjoy this meal, I think their main menu is probably where it's at and definitely would like to come back and try. read more
