My friends and I picked this restaurant to try during Omaha Restaurant Week. We were definitely amazed by the food quality here. We each started off with some escargot which was searing hot (i couldn't wait, way too hungry). Next was the salad, then i got some ridiculous beef cheeks that were just falling apart and packed a punch of flavor. There was complete silence during the entree portion of our meal. We were completely focused on the food. We also shared a nice bottle of wine to enjoy throughout our meal. Overall, I would dine here again. Very good French food at extremely reasonable prices. In authentic French fashion, the service is sometimes a slower and less friendly than Americans are accustomed to, yet remarkably knowledgeable. Amazing. Fantastic. Inexpensive! Here's what $31 did: Pate de Campagne - a fantastic pork pate with cranberries, served with a small mixed green salad with vinaigrette and cornichons. Really really tasty. Mixed green salad - yes, there was MORE salad. I'm not complaining - it was terrific. Confit de canard - this duck confit would make a Frenchman cry - skin was perfectly crispy. Add to that potatoes roasted in duck fat, and carrots and haricots verts. The duck was cooked perfectly and fork - tender. Mousse au chocolate - delicious chocolate mousse. A generous portion, served in a glass with real whipped cream. Service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The atmosphere is very serene, with French jazz and pop softly playing in the background. Wine list has several reasonable selections, including a carafe of house white or red as well as wines by the glass. Selections range in price from $24 - $250. Yes, the restaurant is in a strip mall, and if you were staying downtown, it would be a bit of a hike...and worth every mile. read more

My husband surprised with a dinner at Le Voltaire for my birthday! The cozy atmosphere was perfect. I ordered a wine per recommendation from our very knowledgeable waitress. After looking at the menu, I was having trouble deciding on what to order, but ultimately decided on the French Onion Soup and Filet Mignon Boeuf! The soup was fantastic and about the best French Onion Soup I have had. My husband ordered the lobster bisque and it was equally delicious. My main course was perfectly cooked and had a delightful brandy sauce. I was very pleased!! We finished our meals with coffee and Chocolate Mousse, which was gigantic (easily could have been shared). What an incredible meal! It was Omaha restaurant week and they had specials going on all over. Here, they had a three course meal that was SPECTACULAR! The place is a very nice French restaurant, with soft music and a very special feel to it. I had the Escargots that were delicious, then the petite steak with blue cheese and onions that was incredible! So many flavors! The plate came with mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts and carrots. The person I was with had the French onion soup and thought it was great! He had the beef cheeks and you could pull the meat off with your fork. Pretty amazing. For dessert we had the bread pudding and the Creme Brûlée, both of which were outstanding! If I was 50+ and looking for a romantic, quiet place to eat with my hubby, I might give this place 5 stars. But, I'm not. I'm an under 30 gal (at least for a few more months) who went out with a girlfriend for Le Voltaire's Wednesday night special - $10 for wine and an appetizer. Appetizers were good, although very small. Wine was fine. But, we were by far the youngest people there and it just wasn't the atmosphere we were looking for. A bit too quiet, a bit too formal. So, I'm giving it three stars, but you just have to understand what my perspective was at the time. read more

I had a very pleasant evening at le voltaire. I started with the crab cake appetizer which had a French and Asian fusion style to it. It was superb. I loved every bite. Then I had the duck confit flatbread which I find a little hard to describe. I guess I would say it was bold, complex, and rich. I enjoyed it but perhaps it was a bit much for one person. Delicious! Four of us for dinner. Appetizers: Norwegian smoked salmon and crayfish and crab cakes. Delicious! Bouillabaisse, sturgeon special, veal scallopini, and coquilles St Jacques. All were excellent! Wine: Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly, 2012. Perfect! Dessert:pot de crème ( chocolate salted caramel), chocolate mousse. All wonderful. No pictures were taken, just pure enjoyment of the meal! Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Great atmosphere. This smaller restaurant is a gem to be enjoyed. I gave them a shot on a Tuesday night around 730pm. It wasn't too busy, maybe 3-4 tables. Inside it's nice and intimate, decorated well. They have a little bar area up front. Once in the door it was confusing. There isn't a wait to be seated sign, and the servers were busy at tables. So you don't know if you are supposed to wait or seat yourself. I stood around near the entrance for 3-4 minutes looking dumb before a server was available and gave me a table. The server was very helpful going over the specials. I started out with iced tea and a foie gras appetizer. The iced tea has a weird flavor, almost a coffee aftertaste. The foie gras on toasted bread came out fairly quick. To be honest I've never had it before. It has a very mild liver taste, I kind of liked it, but don't know for me if it was the special thing people make it out to be. (that really has nothing to do with the restraunt, I'm just saying foie gras, meh nothing special). Salad was good, nice viniagrette, not over dressed. The main course was veal loin roulade with spinach and goat cheese over some mashed potatoes with cranberry tomoato sauce. I honestly don't know what to think of this. The veal was really chewy, the meat was really tough. Also it was underdone in spots. To be honest again, I've never had veal that wasn't veal parm, which is beaten up so it's tender. I don't is veal supposed to be tough and chewy, especially loin? Beef loin is like butter, this is like an eraser. I didn't really like the tart gravy with the rest of it either, that's probably just a taste thing. Desert I had the creme brulee. That was good, I liked it. Most items on the menu for entrees are going to cost you in the $20 range, apps around $10. I really wanted to like it, but I didn't care for it. For the right person this might be a great place to go, I wasn't that person. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Omaha. Authentic French food and wine in an intimate atmosphere make for a memorable night out. Prices are actually in the affordable range. Wait staff is pleasant and accommodating. Don't let the strip mall West Omaha location fool you. I have been here a few times. The first was because of a groupon. The remaining visits were because of the excellent food. I have had the following: Cassoulet, Bouillabaisse, Escargots, Foie Gras, Stuffed Mushrooms, Steak frites, Crème Brulée, and Espresso Mousse. I thoroughly enjoyed all of these dishes with the exception of the mushrooms, which were stuffed with crab and spinach. The mushrooms just weren't as impressive as everything else. Voltaire is pricey, so I only come here on special occasions. They do however have the following options, which are more economical: Choice of one appetizer + one main entrée OR One main entrée + one dessert $27.00 Choice of one appetizer + one entrée + one dessert $31.00 Add a bottle of wine and it's easy to spend $100+ for two. On the last visit, we had the chef's special, which isn't advertised, but you can request it when making reservations. There are two options, four course or six course. We opted for the six course, which was paired with six glasses of wine. It is well worth the money, if you can manage it. I agree with another reviewer that the majority of the patrons are older and being younger than 30, I was probably the youngest person in the restaurant. However, I personally could care less. If this food was served in a nursing home, I would gladly visit. Good food is good food. Great service. Impressive food. Pricey-but worth it. Le Voltaire is just ok, not my favorite dining experience in Omaha. The menu consists of typical French fare, and prices of French food. My husband had the duck confit and I had the coq au vin. I would probably go to Le Voltaire again, though prices were a little high for just a Friday night dinner and atmosphere unexciting. read more

My friend and I ate here for the first time, tempted by their Restaurant Week offerings. And it was an incredible meal, indeed. We both stared off with the French Onion Soup and it had such great depth of flavor...the broth was rich and satisfying, the onions perfectly cooked, the cheese nutty and smooth. For the entree, I had the Lucky Beef Cheeks and they were utterly delicious. So tender and perfectly seasoned. My friend had the Salmon with lemon caper sauce, light, delicate and steamed to perfection. We paired these dishes with a lovely Grenache wine (half price bottles on Tuesdays!). Dessert was creme brûlée for me a and butterscotch pot du creme for my pal. Based on this experience, we will most definitely return! read more

Simply Amazing...Le Voltaire is a rare gem nestled in Omaha, NE (West-O). In this day and age of large chain restaurants including top-notch steakhouses, it is often hard to find a small French bistro locally owned by a true French-native (Cedric Fichepain, chef/owner). French restaurants are certainly not hard to come by in any medium-larger city in the U.S., but "true" French restaurants with high quality food & wine alongside outstandingly friendly and accommodating service is indeed a rarity. Here, you will get all this and with much less "attitude" often encountered at American-French places. I took my wife (then girlfriend) here on one of our first dates 5 years ago. After an amazing evening of excellent food & wine and chatting it up with the ever friendly and entertaining Lisa (server), we became instant regulars. Even more, Cedric came out and talked to us personally, always an added bonus to converse with the chef/owner. We loved it so much on an ongoing basis that we had our rehearsal dinner there! Have been back many times since and even though we now live out of state, we fully make every attempt to return on trips back home. This is a must try restaurant for any lover of food and wine, especially French food and wine! Enjoy. read more

I finally tried Le Voltaire yesterday and I was seriously impressed. I can't believe it took me this long to go there but I will definitely be returning. My husband and I stopped in for lunch and it was all I could do not to go back for dinner the same day. I ordered the coq au vin and it was to die for. My husband got the duck confit and it was fantastic as well. I also got creme brulee for dessert and it was the best I've had in Omaha. The lunch prices are very reasonable I think, and though the portions are not large they are certainly adequate. I left feeling immensely satisfied but not the least bit stuffed which is perfect. A very nice little French restaurant. More upscale than you'd expect from a restaurant in a strip mall. I would describe it as upscale but not stuffy. I went with a group of six on a week night, and the service was both quick and extremely friendly, our waitress was great. The food was awesome. I had the boeuf borginon, which is essentially a very tasty beef stew. For dessert I had the creme brule, which was very good as well. All six of us enjoyed what we ordered. The only downside, Is the prices are a bit higher, but the flavors of the food, and the excellent service make it worth it. It would make a perfect date night location. read more

Last minute reservation on a Tuesday night. Back dining room was full so when the last table was sat it got a little loud. Escargot was loved by all, salad okay, veal and coq au vin both spot on. We ate here last Friday night. First off the staff is awesome and very accomadating. We were using our Groupon and didn't even think that the place would be booked up that night! We stopped in at 7 and told us to come back at 8 and they would get us a place at the bar. They certainly took care of us from start to finish. Even though the place was full they still gave top notch service. We did a 2 course menu that included the escargot, steak and frites and duck confit. It was my first time having escargot and it won't be my last!! It was well prepared! I personally love duck and the entire dish melted in my mouth!! Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection! My bf had the ribeye and gave the same compliments. He loved the seasoning and it came out perfect (medium rare). All in all, I can't wait to go back!! It is in our neighborhood so I look forward to the next time and recommend it to others! Granted it is one of the pricier places to eat; if you have the money you won't regret a thing!! This is a truly excellent restaurant - certainly in the Omaha Top 10 (if such a list exists). The cuisine is French/Continental. The wait staff and the owner are very warm and friendly. Not a large place, perhaps 15 tables in the main dining area and they also have a party room. Fairly well stocked with good quality wine. Prices are moderate to high for Omaha ($15 to $25 per dinner entree) but the food quality and ambiance justifies the cost. Amazing!!! Everything about this place, food, service, ambiance. For appetizer we had the escargot, delicious. Shared a bowl of French onion soup, one of the best I have had. I wanted more!!! The house salad is good, comes with an entree. The filet was perfectly prepared. I had the blue cheese and onion topping and my dad had the peppercorn brandy sauce, both were very good. My husband had the Boeuf Bourguignon, his favorite. It was very good, the meat was tender and the sauce is amazing. My mom had the Canard confit, vinaigrette de mûres, which was great as well. Came in for dinner last night with our family. We had made a reservation for 4 people, we ended up coming in with 5. The host was very accommodating and seated us right away. We had 3 kids with us and I was was quite nervous sitting right in the middle of the room sitting around couples that were on dates. We decided to skip appetizers and went straight to dinner. My husband ordered the French onion soup which was delicious! We moved to salads, which were simple with just greens and a vinaigrette....dressing made the salad super tasty and colorful in flavor. My boys split the steak frites, which was a perfectly cooked ribeye and well seasoned fries. My husband ordered the filet and I had gone with the chicken chop pasta... his filet was tender and flavorful, but the pasta in my dish was the highlight of the meal. The chicken was dry and a bit over cooked. Overall it was very good, (with the exception of the chicken) and we are anxious to try it again! read more
