There are a zillion praline shops in the French Quarter tempting visitors, and Leah's Pralines definitely isn't the biggest or flashiest of them, but I'm glad it's the one I stopped in first! They have several flavors of individually-wrapped full-size pralines and offer boxes of three (and it's a beautiful box) at no upcharge. They also carry some non-praline items like local hot sauces and spices. All the items are priced incredibly affordably, especially compared to other praline and gift shops I checked out! I stocked up on a bunch of items here to bring back home as gifts and personal treats. The woman working behind the counter was lovely. She overheard me expressing interest in one flavor of praline and promptly cut one up for me to sample, and she also noticed one of the pralines she picked out for a box was broken and immediately switched it out for another one. I ordered from Leah's after I watched a Diane Sawyer special about Richard Simmons and how he had these at his funeral. Got the prailine sampler and I liked the creamy, the original and the chocolate in that order. Really liked the spicy Cajun brittle and the marshmallow covered in pecans. Fudge was also really good but was quite small. I liked the candy so much I ordered some for my dad for Fathers Day. Always fun trying new local food. This was an opportunity stop. I wasn't looking for this store but I could smell it as I walked past. I called to me like a beautiful woman Chanel number five. I went in and shopped this quaint little place and left with fifty dollars worth of various dessert pralines for my friends and family. The staff was really pleasant and I loved being able to read the history of the business while I waited. They have chum cooking spices and other like items as well. Left Antoine's after having a fabulous lunch and headed across the street. Went in and tried their Mardi Gras Crunch/Praline. Walked out with a traditional Praline and a Mardi Gras Crunch Praline. Such a great after meal treat. Owner was very warm and friendly and helped or at least pointed us to a store where we might get the Gold mask for our Mardi Gras Party. Holy smokes, this place is the place to go when you need Pralines. Came here on a whim, and I'm so glad I did because I needed to bring some souvenirs to family and friends and decided Leah's was the place to go. My family was definitely impressed, and so was I. I could swim in their peanut butter cups. Leah's is well known it's for pralines, which I had to take back home with me as souvenirs but her claim to fame includes many other sweet confectioneries. We sauntered in after eagerly waiting for them to open as they were closed the day before (hours are a bit tough that way). Needless to say worth the wait. The attendant was happy to walk us through what each item was and I settled on pralines, chocolate frogs, turtles, and peanut butter cups. They were all delicious. My fav, as I mentioned, was the peanut butter cups because they had the most delicious peanut butter and chocolate cup, but a few whole peanuts on the inside! Everything gives off a homey appearance, down to the folks walking around making the chocolate and these treats by hand. You definitely need to go. read more

As luck would have it, I was in New Orleans for National Praline Day. I remember passing by Leah's, so I stopped by after work. It smelled amazing when I walked in. Andre greeted me with a dose of warm, Southern hospitality. He was as sweet as the delectable treats and his kindness made my day! This shop is adorable and is stocked with an assortment of treats in addition to Pralines - brittle, fudge, handmade chocolates.... You can also pick up gift items and pantry staples such as Cajun spices, sauces, & coffee. The Pralines are made fresh on site and there are a variety of flavors to choose from. I decided to try the Rum Praline and picked up a few others to bring back as gifts (chocolate, original & creamy). Each Praline is individually wrapped, and Andre informed me that they will stay fresh for 2 - 3 weeks. I was impressed with the size. You can get a box of 3 for $6.75 or a box of 12 for $26. The box is really cute too. My Rum Praline was delicious - fresh, creamy, and the rum flavor was subtle. Each bite melted in my mouth and was delightful. I wish I bought more Spicy Cajun pecan brittle. We were walking around looking for gifts and walked right by this little shop. It's quaint, but packed with so much stuff! They had an assortment of candied pecans and pecan brittle, I know a lot of shops in the French quarter do but they actually had samples of the brittle which I hadn't seen anywhere else. I ended up getting the orange frosted pecans and rum frosted pecans. Both were good with hints of the flavor. The bacon pecan brittle was sooo full of bacon flavor, I brought in to the office to share and it was all gone by the end of day! I also got the spicy Cajun pecan brittle and omgggg it's so good! It has a nice kick to it and it's nicely balanced by the sweetness of the brittle. I brought a bag in for my manager and he was surprised at how much he liked them lol. My partner grabbed a gumbo kit that had all the spices you need to make your own. He made it a few weeks after we got home and it was deeeeeelicious! Made us miss our trip that much more. (: The staff here were very friendly and attentive! I wish we had found this place sooner, I would've tried some of their fudge and chocolates! Leah's Pralines is my fave Praline shop out of all the ones that I have tried in FQ. The pralines are so fresh and they have samples if you cant decide what you want. My friend recommended this place to me because she really liked their bacon brittle, but after trying a few I liked the spicy cajun one more!! The spicy cajun brittle is great, it has a hint of spice and tastes so fresh and buttery. I should have bought more . I had the White Chocolate Pistachio Fudge along with several bags of pecan brittle and it was excellent! I brought my friend and his family in the day we landed in New Orleans because he was craving chocolate. He and his family all ended up buying and thoroughly enjoying various Leah's candies several times during the week we were in New Orleans. My friend and his family had not experienced much of NOLA so I was on a mission to show them the best of the city I have come to know and love (including Leah's Pralines) not only for the wonderful candies but also the really great family that owns and manages it. Being able to see Elna and Susie again, and catch up a little was just as sweet as their candies. Good candy selection. I'm not a pralineperson. They may have the original Goldenberg peanut chews which were from 1865 in Philadelphia. It is so similar. I'm interested in seeing which direction the recipe went. The dark cherry ones are the best, but they don't always have them for some reason.
