Ice cream was phenomenal. There were so many options. I got the bananas foster. The caramel was to die for. I see why they bottle it up and sell it. It is very creamy and full of flavor. I will say everything is pretty messy. I was not expecting it to be so sloppy and oh so good. It should come with a warning "sloppy, but good. Share with a friend." They were massive. A friend, maybe two, could've ate one of these. They also sell food but we didn't come there for that so not sure how that is. It may be economical to buy your own ice cream and DIY at home, but probably not by much with their portion sizes and just doing an awesome job of putting a beautiful sundae together! The ambiance is non existent, I'm not sure if it's the lack of warm light, the small tables, or something else. The service is always decent, not amazing. Second time visiting Leatherby's but my first visit to this location. The first-time visit was due to all the rave about this place so we stopped by to try their ice cream. The presentation was definitely a WOW factor, but the taste was lacking. Honestly, we got roped in because of a coupon. Second visit (1st to this location) we decided we were going to go here for the whole spread (dinner and ice cream). Dinner was disappointing - nothing stuck out on the menu so we got recommendations from our server, Josh, who really made this experience top notch. Food was bland and nothing out of the ordinary - I personally wouldn't come back for the food. The ice cream, well, even though it gave a WOW factor on the presentation (served in old school fancy glasses), the ice cream taste reminded us of the cheap "Bucket" ice cream that parents used to get when they wanted to get a bang for their buck for the kids. The only thing I seriously would come back for was the service Josh gave us - he was super attentive and checked on us often to make sure we were doing well. Alright, I decided to try Leatherby's again. Last time, my wife and I went the one in Draper and we were pretty disappointed. Today, we tried the location in Orem. I was disappointed last time because they didn't have my favorite type of ice cream, which is chocolate chip cookie dough. They didn't onion rings either, which I love as well. I was hopeful, that maybe after 6 or so months, they might have added those to the menu. Sadly, I left disappointed again. If you have peanut butter cookie dough, why can't you have regular? I am sure that a business like that would make more money if they just had some basic things on the menu. Maybe the owners just really love peanut butter. Regardless, I will not be coming back to a Leatherby's in the future unless they make some necessary changes. The staff were nice and the food was good, but I just had my hopes too high I guess. The cheese fries were bomb and the fried Mac and cheese (on the kids meal) is fun and unique. But DO NOT FILL UP ON FOOD. The food is good, but you don't go for the food. I had no idea this place existed until a friend suggested that we meet there for ice cream! I'm not an Orem local and hadn't noticed it before. We arrived late one Wednesday evening and it was packed with students. Our waiter was doing his best but there were long wait times and loud due to the students. We ordered cheese fries and single scoops of ice cream for the two of us. I think the cheese fries stole the show for me personally. They were crisp but soft and topped with stretchy cheesey goodness. My scoop of raspberry sorbet was nice and light in contrast but I wish it had a more distinct flavor. Both times without fail he has met our request with a condescending tone and a rude attitude. He prioritizes his own personal needs as a know it all rather then meeting the needs of the customer as a public service worker. He clearly feels a sense of inferiority towards his customers that is why he chooses to "one up" them rather than reinforcing their needs. My last few experiences here have been much like their sundaes--OVER THE TOP! We had Haward as our server and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the food, updates on the menu, and recommendations. He really made our experience better than ever. Until our most recent visit, I struggled to find an entree on the menu that I found crave-able. But after discussing the menu with Haward, I found the Sweet & Spicy panini that I am still thinking about. Ham, peach jam, cheese, and jalapeños on their new multi grain bread. Delicious! The Southwest Turkey panini on sourdough is also very good. I don't have to tell you to get ice cream when you come here, right? That's a give-in! I love that you can switch out any of the ice cream flavors and toppings on any sundae. Makes it super easy to find your perfect sundae. I recommend the PB, Hot Fudge and Caramel Sauces with the PB Cookie Dough and Dutch Chocolate Chip ice creams, as well as the Raspberry and Strawberry sauces with the Vanilla or Cake Batter ice cream. POSITIVES: From the multiple times I've been here, I've been very satisfied with the quality of service, food and even the care/cleanliness in the restaurant. I usually get Celeste's Cookie Concoction (an Oreo lover's dream!), but this time I got Grandma Grace's Sundae. When I say the portions are humongous, I mean you better say a prayer that Granny Gracie doesn't die of type 2 diabetes. The rest of the food that I sampled included their fries, chicken, Avocado BLT, and bacon burger. Though just a step above your typical fried cafe food, each of them were well-prepped, tasty, fresh and hot. Something else worth mentioning: our server (Reese?) was wonderful. Due to my wife's nut allergy, he warned us that the dessert could take upwards of 20 minutes to bring it out to us because they'd need to prepare it in the back to avoid contamination. They brought it out to us within 15 minutes. I was also very pleased with the service to our rather rambunctious family group. NEGATIVES: the bathroom was a bit gross and the sinks were rather funky for hand washing. I feel the price is pretty high considering the meager quantity we received for our meals. My favorite dessert place hands down. I've gone three times in three days before. I've had every dessert on the menu at least four times. I've gained at least 20 lb since they opened, and I promise it's because of Leatherby's. I buy their hot fudge and caramel to take home regularly. It was the first and only place my son applied to when he got old enough to start working, and no, I don't get any discount. I can honestly name each pound I've gained after their specific desserts, but for me the creme de la creme is their hot fudge ... Once you try Leatherby's hot fudge, you'll never be satisfied with store-bought hot fudge again. I've always found the service good (my son is a dishwasher, so no bias here :)), and the management seems to actually care. There are only three restaurants in Utah county I go to regularly, though I love so many different places and celebrate food probably a little too much. Obviously, Leatherby's is one of those three.
