Walked in at 6:20pm, hours displayed were til 7pm. Chairs were all put up, counter guy was apathetic. We ordered and asked to sit down--before 6:30 and were told no. They advertised open until 7pm--it would've taken us 15 minutes to eat their famed "cannoli". I've worked FOH & BOH at many "full service" restaurants. Someone walks in 15 minutes before closing--you serve them IN HOUSE! We cancelled our order & walked out. Lakewood location was our first and last experience at this restaurant who dares to compare itself to Carbones, Paggilachi, Dinos, Valente's, etc. The rap music playing so loud you couldn't hear anything else should have been the first clue that this is not authentic Italian and we should have left. But despite feeling this was going to be horrible, we stayed and ordered Italian sausage sandwiches. Sausage was overcooked, dry and mealy. Sauce was awful and the bread was doughy and soggy. No wonder the place was empty. There are too many good Italian places around town that deserve the business and certainly not this place. read more

I used to pop into Lechuga's on Colfax and Wadsworth when I drove a bus and recently took the little woman in there for a bite. We walked in and was greeted by a cartoon character, a young girl of about 17 stood behind the counter smiling. She seemed personable enough but she had massive false eye lashes on, glued on adornments all over her face and facial piercings to include a chain running from her nose but her hair was colored green or something and stuck out like a cactus. She replicated one of them anime characters and I couldn't tolerate it so we left. Back in the day when I worked restaurants you could have no jewelry, had to wear hair nets and a beard net if needed but today anything goes. I'm sure this girl thinks she's absolutely adorable and gets many high kudos from her peers but it's sad to think that she is the only kind of person that could be hired to greet the public....and they're everywhere. read more

Pizza was not great especially for price. Dough had texture of frozen pizza. Ingredients tasted cheap. And overall price on pizza was high and size little low at 24. Dominos is better. We also got meatball canolis and while the sauce they put on them was good.... bread was dry and hard/stale and couldnt be cut with a knife. Basically worst calzone ive had in memory. The food was okay, but the service at the Lakewood location was horrid. My first clue should have been that nobody else was in this place. You order your Italian food at the counter and then carry it to one of the tables. We paid, and added in a tip. The restaurant closes at 7:00. At 6:45, we get up and say we had to go to the restroom before leaving. The restroom was locked, so we asked for a key. The owner said that the restrooms are shut down at 6:30. when we said we really had to go, the owner said he didn't care - it was his restaurant and he would run it the way he wanted. The food isn't bad, it's actually okay for what you're paying for. I like the original location on Tejon St much better than the Colfax Ave location. Each time at the Colfax location turns into a production. First of all, I hate the menu because they offer an order of 1 meatball and then there's an option for 2 meatballs. It never fails that whatever 12 year old they have working that day screws it up and you're not getting what you originally intended. My order will include something like 4 orders of the "2 Meatballs" but the random elementary student they've hired will only place an order for 4 meatballs. They'll almost always forget to provide cheese or crushed pepper and they've forgotten to give me the bread I've paid for. Needless to say, CHECK your bag before leaving to make sure you're getting what you paid for. Oh, the Colfax location is in a dirty little shopping strip across from the Walmart where serious crime is prevalent (the kind that's beyond kids stealing candy bars). Ordered the large pasta bucket which comes with spaghetti and marinara, 3 meatballs, "3" sausage, garlic bread and a tossed green salad for $23.99. Overall, not a bad value...a few comments: 1. Lots of pasta , not nearly enough sauce. Sauce was good but with what little you get on top, it becomes bland. Pasta was a little soft, cooked well past al dente. 2. was good. Love the creamy Italian dressing 3. Really good garlic bread...packed in a plastic bag so it got a little chewy. 4. Good size meatballs, nice flavor. Like the sausage, it had been simmered in sauce 5. "3" sausages looked more like 3 halves of sausage...with that said, that allows for 1 meat for ea serving....maybe at least serve with a meat sauce? Despite what might seem like a negative review, I would order again. It would be nice if they at least provided enough sauce for the pasta they give. I don't feel like I should pay for extra sauce, just give me an appropriate amount. A few days later, we finally got near the bottom of the pasta bucket. There was more sauce down there but was still a little bland. A solid 3 star establishment with no ambience or frills. The staff was friendly, the menu offers typical Italian fare (spaghetti, manicotti, lasagna, ravioli, sandwiches, salads). The salad was mostly white iceberg lettuce mix with shredded carrots and cabbage, topped with three pepperoni slices and some cheese. No frills, remember? The entrees (except lasagna) are served with a general marinara with no meat, also no meat sauce option - for $1.62 you can add meatball or sausage. The sauce seems like it's out of a jar, but isn't terrible. The garlic bread is the real MVP of the meal - I didn't finish my entree, but I did finish the bread! Honestly, not bad! I came in for a friends birthday and thought the inside was much different than the original Lechuga's, but it was simply wonderful! Little devils cannolis are amazing as ever! We usually order the pasta bucket with the homemade noodles and homemade sausage. It comes with a massive order of salad, and garlic bread that is hard to beat. All for a simple, easy to pay, twenty bucks. Service has been great as well! Not a problem yet and I have returned about three times. Well I'm a transplant, not a local. So I never knew the history of this restaurant, till my wife and I walking to try this establishment. And for growing up in a predominant Italian neighborhood, I consider myself a fair judge of good Italian food. Now in my time in living here I've come across more bad Italian food than good. However I have not found a good Italian restaurant that has decent quality food for a great price. This place has just that, while it's not the best I've had in this town, it is one of the better ones that I will definitely be going back to. Their sauce is really delicious, the spaghetti is as well. The prices are extremely affordable, service is exceptionally fast. The employees are very friendly and welcoming. While their sausage filled canollis are unique (never heard of these till now, always thought canollis were a cheese filled dessert) and delicious, their meatball recipe it even better than the sausage they use. The pizza is decent, the dough they use is basic flour tasting, however when cooked with the sausage or meatball canollis it takes on a way better flavor than the pizza. If you're looking for a great place for lunch or dinner at a fairly reasonable price this is the place for you! read more

I've been eating the little devil and laurie salad since 1992 at the one in Denver. Stopped in the one in Lakewood after shopping at Walmart. We were starving after swimming all day. I knew the salad didn't look right but was hungry. Let the lady at the counter know. She said she would tell the manager. He never came out. I told her that was ok. They are usually fresh. I took the rest home and tried to finish it later. It ended up in the trash. I called the manager because I was so disappointed. He said he would leave a note with the general manager?? I've been sick all night! I Don't know if the one in Denver operates like this but I'll never go to the Lakewood one again! Would've got one star if it wasn't for the manager saving face, the girl behind the register was very rude and incompetent for forgetting a dinner and garlic bread when picking up an order. I asked if all three dinners were in the bad and she said yes. After I went back in there she was rude about it, so I asked for the manager, she was very nice and took care of me. The food on the other hand was very good, got the lasagna, sausage sandwich, spaghetti with regular noodles and spaghetti with house made noodles, great food. Worst service ever by a kid named Keira who claimed he was the manager. Ordered 4 large cannolis get home and only have 3 in the bag. I go back in less than 10 minutes. The gal at the front apologized and asked for the missing one and Keira comes out and called me a liar to my face. The service was fast and friendly, and everything was reasonably priced. I tried the Spaghetti and Mini Calzones for my very first trip to Lechugas. I absolutely loved the mild mini sausage calzones! The spaghetti was okay; Needed a little salt in my opinion, but was still better than Olive Garden and half of the other Italian places I've been to! I'm behind the times (no surprise there, my wife and adult children would tell you) - apparently the original Lechuga's has operated in North Denver since 1961. How sad - all the wasted years I could have enjoyed it, but didn't, until they opened up a Lakewood store. The Lakewood store is essentially at the northeast corner of West Colfax and Wadsworth - parking and entrance on the north side of the restaurant, facing Super Walmart. So based on my vast experience of one visit to Lechuga's - yesterday - for lunch - here's what you need to know. First, what isn't Lechuga's? Gourmet, 5-star Northern Italian fine dining. What is Lechuga's? Essentially it's Italian fast food. Think of Fazoli's. Only better. I actually kind of like Fazoli's too, but Lechuga's is definitely better. Let Lechuga's be what it is - Italian fast food - no, it's not 4-stars in the universe of all Italian restaurants, but it's a strong 4-stars in the spectrum of Italian fast food. Our service was friendly and excellent - and fast - you could definitely come here for a quick bite on a workday lunch hour. You order at the counter, grab your own drink, and they bring your food to the table. We had the lunch spaghetti, and it was to our table in less than 5 minutes. The prices are also pretty amazing. Lunch specials every weekday for $4.75. Yesterday it was the Elegante Canoli and it was huge, smothered, and looked really good. I was going to ask my future BFF at the table next to us if I could have a bite, but alas, my wife wouldn't let me. Our lunch spaghetti was cooked perfectly (not overdone and sticky which is the death of pasta), generously slathered in marinara, served with your choice of meatball or Italian sausage, and with garlic toast - for $6.50. The dinner spaghetti - a large portion on a platter with meatball AND Italian sausage, salad and garlic toast - $8.00. They also have pizza, lasagna, manicotti and ravioli, and they tell you upfront that those will take longer. There is no meal on the menu (except pizza) over $8.25. An interesting take-out option is to take home a "bucket" of spaghetti (with meatballs AND Italian sausage, salad and garlic toast). And, here's what's really interesting - $18.95 for 3 servings or $20.95 for 6 servings. Really - I may be behind the times, but I'm not stupid - would anyone, not pay just $2.00 more to double the serving size? That's the scoop on the new Lakewood Lechuga's - like Popeye, they "yam what they yam, and that's all what they yam," and I really like what "they yam." read more
