    Jjamppong ($11)
    Alisa K.

WHEN: 11/19/21 @ 1pm on Saturday This small restaurant is located inside the Hannam Korean grocery store. It's located inside the food court which has a few other shops as well as a large shared eating area. When we arrived the market and food court was filled with Koreans eating and shopping. Everyone from grandpas to employees were eating together! I also noticed that most people were eating either the Jjamppong or the black bean noodle from this noodle store. I got the Jjamppong ($11) for two people and the portion is huge! It's served in a huge bowl FILLED with so much seafood. The noodles were amazing... chewy, flavorful, and dense! The flavor of the soup is everything you can ask for in a spicy seafood noodle. I'm so glad I came here because I just found my new favorite Korean noodle spot. I'll definitely be back to try the black bean noodle!

So my friend who highly recommended this place is on our black list now. Probably should have trusted my gut feeling upon arriving... long story short, we decided to stop after 3 or 4 regretful bites and went to another restaurant. Definitely not on par with what was advertised as we've immediately made up our mind to boycott any/all place(s) that "particular" friend recommends.

Walking through Hannam Chain Super 1 Mart, meandering through the market aisles packed with Korean food, products and countless goodies, you will come to the back where the food court stands tucked away, but the smell of real good food of the motherland emanates from the many small restaurant kitchens. One such restaurant stands out more among the others and that is Lee Mangu Noodles. I had the pleasure of enjoying the Jjamppong (Spicy Korean-Chinese Seafood Noodle Soup) and I couldn't have enough. Perfect choice for a cold wintry SoCal day. This hefty bowl of soup beautifully and satisfyingly mixes shrimp, clams, mussels, squid, an array of vegetables and fresh noodles all bathing in a delicious, spicy and rich broth. After all the messy slurping, with soup drippings left on your chin to your clothes to the table, you are left feeling full, but not heavy. You feel warm and comfy inside. There are plenty more dishes on my list for the next time I am here. I really recommend this hidden Korean delight.

    The jajangmyun and tangsooyook combo

This restaurant is inside the food court of the Korean super market. Came during lunch and the wait wasn't bad at all, minus the fact that the parking lot was lit! Ordered the combo of jajangmyun and tangsooyook. It came out in about ten minutes. Overall I really liked the taste and flavor, it wasn't bland and had good flavor. I wouldn't say it's the best jajangmyun I've had but it was good enough.

I know there are so many korean style jajangmyun places around here. It's my second visit experience at Mangu boodles. Noodles was not bad. I ordered black bean noodle and spicy noodle. It was just soso. However, korean pork was truly bad. It was the worst one ever in my life. It was dry and cold... You could visit paik noodle for black bean noodle and fried pork. Tangsuyuk I will never be back

I see some reviews have only one star. Hm its weird. I heard from my mom that This place is always crowded , And my first visit I was very satisfied! Especially blackbean noodle! Spicy noodle was good as well but at the end i felt little oily so I couldn't finish it but overall i really loved noodles.

Jja Jang Myun combo w tang soo yuk. $10.99 + tax on Nov 2018. Small Jja Jang Myun portion. Be aware.

Disappointed with Jja Jang Myun for its taste and portion size. Tang su yuk was ok too but also didn't have much portion. I suddenly realized that this place is just another place that gives small portion for matching cheaper price and poor quality. I'm gonna give another shot with ordering jjambong next time. This place is supposed to be better at jjambong, and the portion looked better when I saw others ordering em. Definitely nono on jjajangmyun, esp super no on combo.

    Jane K.

I've tried a lot of jjajangmyun places and think this place was one of the best I've had!! I had my doubts going in but honestly the noodles are cooked to perfection, not soggy. The black bean sauce flavor is not too bold or bland, just perfect! Their jjampong's flavor is also very deep and not watered down. They include a very generous portion of seafood and the bowl is literally SOOO huge- can definitely share this amongst two people. The pork was delicious as well - not tough or hard!

The restaurant is pretty huge but it gets super loud! The screens are always playing kpop groups with music playing and its always fun to watch. For food, I've tried a lot of their menu and everything is so good and shareable. The korean fried chicken is crispy, not dry, and seasoned so well! A favorite amongst the group was the beef intestine, which I've never had before and was pretty impressed by. It was super juicy and paired well with the scallions and sauce. Another favorite of the group was the corn cheese. It was like a pizza but corn cheese. My absolute tried and true is the pork belly. It is soo good, especially with the kimchi, peppers, and roasted garlic cloves. It definitely is my personal favorite on their menu! I can definitely see why this place is so popular!

They have a ridiculous policy that seems to switch from table to table. We wanted to order a pitcher of beer but since one person in our party wasn't 21 they wouldn't allow. Said policy was "everyone had to be 21". Ok perfect makes sense. BUT THEN!! a table next to us sat down and had about 6 soju bottles and SHOCKER they had kids at their table, but I thought the policy was that everyone had to be 21??? We asked about it and then they said it's because we might distribute it to our friend, yea no. They literally told us "becuase we were all around the same age they couldn't". We were not. And how do they know the parents wouldn't give alcohol to their kids? Are they just deciding when this so called "policy" takes effect? Ruined our entire night, we came just to watch the game and have a beer. Would not return.

The kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and gat kimchi are absolutely delicious. I heard that the owner makes everything in-house, and you can really tell how much care and skill go into the food. The staff are also incredibly kind and welcoming every time I visit. Galbitang (Beef Short Rib Soup) - This is honestly the best galbitang I've had in both OC and LA. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the beef is always fresh and tender. Whenever I'm craving galbitang in the OC/LA area, this is the only place I go. Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) - The amount of ingredients they give you is amazing. I've had it both dining in and as takeout, and it's consistently delicious every single time. It's perfectly seasoned, and has just the right level of spice. As much as I love the galbitang, I think I actually enjoy the yukgaejang even more. Pork Cutlet (Donkatsu) - This place is known for its galbitang and seolleongtang, so I wasn't expecting much from the donkatsu... but why is it this good? The cabbage salad dressing that comes on the side is seriously addictive. The portion size is huge, there's no way I could finish it by myself. It has the crispy texture of Japanese katsu, while still having a great pork flavor of its own. I honestly think this could be considered one of their signature dishes. If you're looking for authentic Korean comfort food with generous portions and warm service, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely keep coming back!

The interior is clean, newly built, and has a modern Korean hanok-style look. The servers were also friendly both times, so I didn't have any issues with the service or atmosphere. Unfortunately, the main problem for me was the food. I've eaten at the LA location before and never really thought the food tasted bad there, but at this Buena Park location, both visits gave me the impression that the food didn't taste as fresh as it should. On my most recent visit, I ordered the soondae gukbap, and the soondae had an unpleasant off smell and didn't taste very fresh. It almost tasted like it had been sitting for a while. On my first visit, I tried the regular pork gukbap, and the pork flavor was also stronger than I personally prefer. I do tend to like cleaner-tasting gukbap, but this stood out to me because I don't remember having the same issue at the LA location. After the first visit, I thought maybe it was just an off day since the restaurant was still new. But after having a similar impression on my second visit, I'm not sure if this location is consistent yet. The space is nice and the service was good, but for a gukbap restaurant, the food has to be the main reason to come back. Based on my two visits, this location was disappointing for me.

But since I moved out of LA, it's so inconvenient to get to. Enter Kyung Bok Kung -- what a find. I can get a fine dining korean bbq experience conveniently. I've been here a number of times, and this review reflects the few times I've been there. It's become the goto spot to take people from out of town who are visiting and want a Kbbq experience. Things I immediately noticed - lots of white and grey teslas in the parking lot during lunch - you know what that means? Golf Koreans. Yup. Go inside and you'll see incredibly well dressed older retired people with their buddies chatting up in private cubicles. Beautiful decor. It's like the background setting of a korean drama where there's a close-up of the guy and the girl - they're about to say something really serious to each other. The camera does a wide angle shot of them - and this is the restaurant it's shot in. Price points - this place isn't cheap, but they have incredibly good deals on a weekday lunch (cold noodles and meat set). Their dinner set course meals are priced around what you would expect from a quality steak house. This place is not as pricey as AB steak or Cote, but you're getting just as quality. Food - I've had the lunch set meals, the bbq grilled course, and ordered à la carte. One thing is for sure - they don't miss. I never had a 9 budda plate until I came here, but apparently it's like a thing that royals ate during the monarchy days. It was like a korean vegetarian taco. Very intricate (and slightly annoying) to put together but delicious - and a great test of your chopstick skills. Their braised beef (galbijjim) from their lunch set intersects savory, sweet, and tenderness in a way that only Korean grandmas do. I'm not a huge fan of Wagyu beef (just too rich and can never feel after eating it), but I have never felt that way coming out of here. Go here at night if you want to impress someone or celebrate something. Go here during lunch if you want a fantastic meal and want to see what the best korean food can taste like but don't want to break the bank.
