Lee Wah Chen is my favorite food at the lake, period. Don't need a lobster roll. Don't need chowder. Their crab rangoons are the best I've ever had and I think about them all year when I'm at home. Their duck sauce is homemade and so freaking good. It's sort of a hole in the wall - you can go there for drinks at the bar (honestly if I lived here, I'd drink at Lee Wah's) but don't expect much by the way of fancy plates or decor. This is our go-to for Chinese food whenever we visit the Lakes region, mostly due to proximity. If there were another option close by, we would give it a try, but this place is passble. The wings and pork fried rice are consistently good. The egg rolls are okay, but I've had better. The chicken fingers vary in consistency with how dense/greasy the tempura breading is, so they're hit or miss. The chicken teriyaki and chicken lo mein are both a bit too sweet, so while the kids love it, it's a bit much for the adults. All in all, it's decent for New England Chinese food, but there are a few tweaks that could make it great. read more

Bar flies much? I am kinda of Chinese guru in seek of the best in Lake's Region. This was not it. The food, subpar, the environment smelled like a bar. There was a sweet older couple sitting trying to enjoy a meal, but I am sure like me was distracted by the several conversations by the bar flies with every other word being the F or S words. The drinks, goodness, I would be shocked if they are making any money off the pours the bartender was giving, no wonder the bar flies liked it. I will not return unless I hear it's cleaned up some. I got a order of chicken from Lee wah a few days ago and came home and notice once I took a bite of a chicken finger that there was hair cooked into my chicken finger I looked in the box and there was hair though out the box as well. This is a pretty decent Chinese restaurant in Center Harbor! Located beneath Kevin's Cafe, Lee Wah is a casual Chinese restaurant which offers full service dining and takeout. There's also a cocktail bar and a flatscreen TV mounted in the corner. They offer a standard Chinese menu including Hunan and Szechuan dishes and special dishes such as Steak Lo Mein, Seafood Wor Bar, Four Happiness, Moo Shu, Kung Po, Curry, Orange Chicken (or Beef), General Tso's Chicken, and Szechuan Tripe Crown. The prices per dish range from $6.95-$17.95. 25 Luncheon Specials ($4.95-$7.95/11:30AM-3:00PM) and 8 Dinner Plate Specials ($8.50) are all served with roast pork fried rice. I stopped in at Lee Wah to grab some takeout during my lunch break. The place was not busy, a few customers eating in the dining room and a few of the staff were also in the dining room enjoying their big bowls and watching a game show on the TV. I ordered the Lunch Special #5 ($5.95 plus tax): Egg Roll, Chicken Teriyaki, Pork Chow Mein and Pork Fried Rice. The food order was ready in about 12 minutes. The portion of food was a good lunch size! The 2 Chicken Teriyaki sticks were tender and chewy with a sweet taste outside. The Pork Chow Mein was fresh and had a mix of bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, carrots, minced pork, and topped with crispy rice noodles. The Egg Roll was crispy skin outside (not too greasy) had shredded cabbage, ground pork, and plenty of cinnamon seasonings. The Fried Rice (light tan) had a firm texture mix with egg, fried onions, and very small cubes or roast pork. Overall, I'd give this place 3.5 stars since the food was good. I've been eating at this place for a long time, but today was so good I felt like I should come say something. We got egg foo yong, eggrolls, and a luncheon special with teriyaki chicken and boneless spare ribs. What caught my eye first was the teriyaki chicken; it was plump and succulent, and perfectly browned. Big chunks of pork ribs. The egg foo yong is fantastic. Eggrolls done just right. The rice is not overdone but also not too soggy. I hope this place will continue to serve our area for years to come. Well done. Edit 1: I don't know what to make of the criticism that they are not taking Covid seriously, because there's plastic hanging up everywhere, and they have required masks for the duration of the pandemic. While I can say with conviction this place is way better than it was years ago, I'm not ready to give it 5 stars. Take it for what it is however; being a Boston guy I have what I personally believe to the the best Chinese food in the world. This is just as good as your favorite take out place in your hood I am sure. The lobster sauce didn't have the typical consistency that I look for, although there were big delicious shrimps in it. The fried rice is good not great, could use some pork and onions etc. The egg rolls are more like a spring roll, the chicken fingers are good and the terriyaki was okay. Let me end with this, the lakes region really lacks a lot of choicea, that said this place is more than adequate and I'm glad to see they turned it around and seem to care about the quality of food vs what it was years ago. read more

Solid Chinese in the lakes region! I ordered take-out while vacationing in the Moultonborough area and was pleasantly surprised with the taste and quality of Lee Wah Chen. The lo mein and beef Teriyaki were outstanding. I also ordered a Hunan shrimp dish and guess what? It was actually spicy! I was limited in time so I took a chance (last experience here 6 years ago wasn't very good) food was awful! Tasted like everything was reheated in deep fryer. We placed our orders and were told to choose our drinks from the cooler. The bartender was watching sports on TV, and was soon joined by another employee. After a very long wait, our waiter brought a paper bag of food out and set it by the two men watching TV. We had not ordered takeout, so we thought nothing of this. Another ridiculous amount of time passed. We had worked through the bowl of noodle-snacks, our drink-rationing was no longer feasible, we were getting really hungry, and we began to feel uncomfortable as if we had been forgotten. Forgotten in a restaurant with no other patrons. At what point do you question a restaurant about your order? Finally we approached the bartender, and he said something about takeout and tried to hand us the bag. We said no we didn't order takeout. He got our waiter, who took the bag (which was now obviously our food) into the back, and brought us our lukewarm food on plates. No apologies, no explanations. Not even a discount on the bill. The food was not good. It may have been better had it been fresh instead of lukewarm. It amazes me that if the food was intended for us, no one even indicated that our order was ready. We have tried this place 3 times in the last year. As a local it used to be pretty good. over the last year it has gone down hill. each time was not a good experience. Recently on 11 / 27 we got 40 dollars worth of beef terryaki and chicken fingers. Terryaki was cold and small. The chicken fingers were luke warm and poor. Also, they don't do special orders or don't listen to the customer, I don't know which. I've asked for extra hot peppers in the Kung Pao chicken and there were none. Each chicken finger had at least one unappetizing mouthful & also tough, yet appeared properly cooked. The shrimp lo mein was ok, deveined shrimp & mild flavor. Throwing out approx. 2/3 of entire order. Only ordered three items for take away as we had not been in awhile & had forgotten why. STILL not taking Covid seriously! They let their "bar" patrons walk around the restaurant, stand near the door talking, all the while unmasked. When you ask them about it, their response is to shrug and say "sorry, nothing we can do about it." I then asked if they could allow their take out customers to pick up the food outside (as they were doing when the pandemic first started) and the answer was "no." So you have to go inside to get your food, push past the bar patrons who are not sitting at the bar, and then walk by them again when you leave. Every year when my family is staying in Moultonborough they want Chinese. I've been to Lee Wah and find them pretty bad. Again I said yes to my family and again they haven't disappointed me. We ordered the PU PU platter for 2, wontons in peanut sauce and house Lo mein. EVERYTHING was dry to the point we couldn't eat it except for the lo mein but that was tasteless.
