Went here for Mother's Day and was surprised how busy it was! The staff seemed a little overwhelmed with the crowd but once we were seated the service was great. We live really close to the spot so wanted to try it for a while and was craving seafood for Mother's Day. We split the handful and got no other food, and ate every bite but left full. We talked about baby throwing in a side next time. We got the garlic butter mild and it was a great level and spice level. I'm from Los Angeles California and was in Columbus, Ohio checking out Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU). My son, was accepted there and we went on a tour, a men's basketball game, and their VISIT DAY. This young man LOVES MUSSELS....he had a pound of mussels and the fried catfish plate. I had a salad and some fried oysters. First, our witness was VERY attentive. Our drinks were always full. My son LOVED his mussels. He said that the sauce was flavorful. He'd finished the mussels and wanted to keep the leftover sauce to dip his fries and catfish in. Our waitress was accommodating and packed up his leftover sauce in his doggie bag. I'd put Boiling Seafood at the top of places that serves this type of food. When our friends told us about this place, they all have different options. Some people love here and some people said it's just okay. You never know the answer until you go there yourself. We like it. They have daily specials. The food coming in pretty fast. The only suggestion I would say is to make the flavor go into the food. I really want to give this place five stars. The food was incredible. We had snow crab, dungeness crab and crawfish. Everything was cooked well, and the seasoning was delicious. Love the food here! We sat out on the patio on a Friday (7/24) evening because it was empty and we were desperate to get out of the house. My husband and I both take COVID very seriously; and rarely leave the house. We only decided to stay because the patio was empty. The staff was masked appropriately, except for our waiter who practically had his mask around his chin. I had to explicitly tell him to place it over his nose when coming to our table. We both made a point to wear our masks when he came to the table. Unfortunately I can't recall his name, but his mask that night had the pan-African flag on it (going off memory. I may be wrong. It was black/green/red) We chose this place after reading management responses to Covid and assumed they would enforce masks with their staff. Due to his reckless behavior we both now have to quarantine for two weeks in case we have been exposed Very disappointed that management allows a member of their staff to so blatantly ignore the mask mandate; especially when facing customers. read more

I love crawfish, and this had been on my list awhile, but it's so far out of my way that I just couldn't make it over here. It's worth a detour, though. Much bigger, and nicer, inside than it seems from outside, and from the pretty average strip mall it's in. There's a nice, large, shaded patio. Good service the whole way through. I had not shelled shrimp or crawfish since I was a kid, so they patiently gave me a demo. I got the "Handful," which is a big bucket o' shrimp, crawfish, sausage, and clams, with a few potatoes and half ears of corn. Choose your spice- I went with Cajun, which was amazingly flavorful- and your heat level. I went with medium, because you never really know the scale at a new place. It was zesty but not super hot (to this heat lover.) It did build as I ate, but never to the point of overwhelming the flavors. Next time I'll try hotter. The seafood is very fresh, and the shrimp were big. The crawfish, well, as you'd expect there's not much meat, so it isn't worth it to shell them unless you really like them. The sausage was very good, and the seasonings coated the potatoes and corn so that they were fantastic as well. They bring you gloves, which are essential, and a bib, which is a very good idea. Mine fell off halfway through and I still managed not to get anything on my shirt, but you really should not come here in nice clothes. Cover up, dig in, take your time (you probably don't want to eat shell, so get it all off.) Enjoy the flavors. I was full, but I came hungry, so the Handful might be shareable. If you don't want to peel off shells, don't worry- they have etouffee, pastas, fried fish, etc. I'll be back to explore the menu more. I really wanted to like this place but tonight was one of the worst dining experiences. We had a birthday dinner and the service was awful. We waited 20 minutes to even get a drink order in. We had children with us and we were not asked if we needed accomodations such as a high chair or booster. I noticed that a table of 4 came in after us, ordered, ate and left. We probably ordered some of the same things at that table and did not get our food. We have, at this point waited for almost two hours for just appetizers, salad, soup and sandwich. If there was any communication at all as to why we have not gotten what we ordered I would be less livid and irate. The lack of customer service and attention blows my mind.. this will be my last visit as a patron of boiling seafood. When some of us at our table got our food, it was cold, tasteless and mediocre. I would have had a better time at fast food chain restaurant. I have been to many seafood restaurants out of town and have never had this bad of service. Some with workers who spoke limited english.. and the service was superb! Some of my friends had ordered salads and one had to eat her salad with her hands because utensils were not on the table and our server did not bring it. Eating fresh seafood that coated with sauce in a plastic bag, this is a must try dining experience if you are new to this concept. The first time that I try this unique dining experience is when I was in California. You will order variety of seafood by pounds, spicy level and the sauces. As the food is ready, your server will bring out a bag of steamy hot plastic bag, which contain all the seafood goodness inside. Of course, don't forget to put on the bib before you dig in. Boiling Seafood offer this similar concept dining experience. Personally, I did not have a great dining experience. From ordering our food to getting the check, our server is not attentive at all. While our water cup is empty most of the time, our server is not around to refill our water. Basically, we only see our server when we order the food and when we get the check. As for the food part, I wish their seafood can be fresher or at least clean. One thing that I would like to point out is the crawfish. Within the pound of crawfish that we order, I would say more than half of them do have the stinky smell and the texture of the meat is like mushy. I went during the COVID pandemic so only takeout was offered and that was ok, the packaging and customer service was great. I liked that they offered turkey sausage. I first ate at a similar place in Virginia, and was thrilled when Boiling Seafood opened! Super close to my office and an easy drive to the hotel I usually stay at when up here. The ambiance would definitely fit large crowds but I have only seen maybe 3-4 tables full each time I've been here. This place is not cheap, but not overly expensive either. I think it's a little odd that the seafood bags don't come with corn and or potato (you have to buy at least 2 pounds of seafood to have them included, otherwise $1 per piece). This time I decided to try an appetizer- what's perfect for a cold night? Lobster bisque! But the 3 stars is because the bisque, though delicious in flavor and having some satisfying chunks of lobster meat, was positively brimming with imitation crab meat! The texture and flavor are unmistakeable and took my 4 star rating down to a 3. Perhaps my expectations outstrip reality, but I would ya e expected a place that serves whole lobsters and crab not to scrimp on something like bisque! New to Columbus area and we were in the mood for seafood. So got on yelp and found this place. Restaurant is clean pretty empty but we went on a Thursday night around 6. My husband ordered a seafood boil homemade juice medium and the waitress brought out some ghost pepper on the side. I ordered the catfish dinner and a half a pound of shrimp with no head homemade juice medium and my son got chicken tenders. The batter on the fish and chicken was a tempura batter so my picky toddler didn't like it. The catfish needed seasoning but I enjoyed the batter. The homemade juice seasoning has BROWN SUGAR in it so beware it's sweet which we weren't into were used to seafood seasoning being garlicky and savory with some heat. read more

I was looking through hot new businesses on Yelp and came across Boiling Seafood. I looked at their menu and noticed Crawfish by the pound and I immediately bookmarked the place. We were going to be in the Bethel Rd area today so I looked up my bookmarks on Yelp and was reminded of this place. I noticed that this place only has 3.5 stars so I started looking through the reviews. I started reading the reviews at the top which were mostly 3 stars and the occasional 2 star reviews. I didn't think most of the criticisms were major issues. I finally came across some 5 star reviews that made me think it was worth trying. **Food Allergy - my nephew is allergic to peanuts. We called ahead of time and the staff confirmed with us that they do not use peanut oil** Sunday afternoon we stopped by about 12:30, and the place was nearly empty. I think there was 1 table of people. Now I normally don't like places that are not busy like this as it tends to lead to disappointment. The place was clean, and the tables were set nicely with a big piece of butcher paper (which you use later to put your bag of seafood onto). Our waitress promptly came out, gave an introduction, and found out it was our first time. She gave a brief overview of the menu, and let us have some time to make a decision. We ordered our food and waited with anticipation. My wife and I ordered a Catfish basket and 1 lb of crawfish to split between the two of us. My parents both got the Catfish po'boy sandwich, and my nephew also ordered the catfish basket. We waited 20 min to get our food, which seemed a little long, but it was worth the wait. I could easily say that the time was due to cooking the meals to order, which to me means fresh and not food that's been sitting in a warmer all day. The restaurant did start to slowly get busy as we were waiting for our order. We were all very impressed with the quality and taste of the food. The fried catfish pieces had a very nice batter and were perfectly crispy and tender. There was a side of tartar sauce that seemed homemade. It was rather spicy and was also very good. The baskets and sandwiches all came with French fries which could either be plain or Cajun. My nephew said that his Cajun fries were fantastic and really enjoyed it. We had the plain fries, but they were crispy and tasted good. The waitress brought out a metal bucket with plastic gloves and bibs for eating our crawfish. We put on our gloves and bibs and dumped the bag of crawfish onto the table. Our crawfish was ordered with Garlic butter sauce, and Baby Spice (less spice than mild). The crawfish smelled so good as we put them onto the table. We began to eat them and found them to be pretty fantastic. The spice level was definitely baby as it didn't seem spicy at all, and the garlic butter seasoning was excellent as well. The gloves were huge on my wife and made it difficult for her to peel, pinch, and shuck the crawfish. She still wore them, since it would have been super messy without. We were very impressed with the level of quality of the product as well as the taste and overall experience of this restaurant. We checked out this place after reading a bunch of reviews and agreeing with another that most reasons for the low star ratings were minor things in comparison to the quality of the food. I think this restaurant used to be a Chinese restaurant before it was changed over and still looks the same inside but no harm no foul. There was butcher paper on the table and did not seem to need a reservation as there were enough tables available. We ordered raw oysters on the half shell and the "ultimate" which included clams, crawfish, shrimp, corn, potatoes, andouille sausage, snow crab legs and a fried calamari appetizer. For the two of us this was more than enough and we struggled to finish it all. The seafood was awesome, it is your classic boil where they bring it out in a plastic bag and you dump it onto your table and have at it with your hands. My first time trying crawfish was here and let me tell you, I will be back for more! I would be remiss not to mention that were a few minor issues with the service which is why this review is only 4 stars. They did not bring us waters at the beginning, which we could have asked but we did not need them until the seafood came out in which case the waitress was not back to check on us at all. Secondly, they forgo the oyster appetizer. It wasn't until we got the bag of seafood that we asked where it was, they said they forgot and brought it out to us. Last but not least, our waitress did not explain that the "spicy" flavor is SERIOUSLY SPICY. I am one for hot foods but this was at the very highest end of my tolerance and it kind of ruined a lot of the experience for me. It would have been helpful...to have a water. Also, they did not give us gloves to wear but they did give us bibs. All in all I gave this a 4 star review because the food was all around great, there was just some minor inconveniences that the service could work on. We had a solid experience at Boiling Seafood. It's a place I'd happily return, although it's more likely to be a one-off visit rather than a regular haunt. By now, the photos and reviews should make apparent what the setup is: a giant plastic bag filled with various seafood and sauce/seasoning. There are other options on the menu, but it certainly seems that if you're considering a visit you should do so for the namesake items. Having selected your item (regular, or with crab and calamari) you have your choice of sauces and spice level. We went with a mix of sauces and the medium spice. Spiciness can be tricky from place to place, but here the medium had a fair bit of heat. We were cautioned away from the hot, and while I think that it would have met OUR needs, it's a fair and welcome warning. If you're on the fence, you can always do what we did and get a container of the hot variety on the side. As for the contents of the bag, they were good and mostly plentiful. It was a perfect amount for two people to share, with the exception of the potatoes and corn. On that front there was enough for one per person. You can always order extras I guess. read more

Back when I lived in DC, I used to frequent a spot named Hot N Juicy (few chains around the US) and since leaving I had been craving boiled seafood. Im so glad I found this place! I made the very expensive mistake yesterday by going to Lee's Seafood Boil. We ordered the Crab cake and catfish po'boy's. The crab cake was obviously made from canned crab and it was TINY for the price. It had some very wilted, sad looking lettuce and barely any sauce. The catfish po'boy wasn't any better. This is by far one of the best seafood restaurants in Columbus. Right in Bethel road and it's convenient. I got a grilled chicken and shrimp dinner. My boyfriend got a crab leg boiled bag. Our food came to 60 dollars but it was so good, and the food was top quality. Our server checked on us regularly, and refilled our drinks constantly. They have their own parking lot as well. This was my 1st time here. We came here for lunch to celebrate a co-worker's birthday. This place is very nice and clean. I didn't do a seafood boil but, after seeing how good it looked, I'll try that the next time I come here. They even give you a bib and gloves to wear so you don't make a mess and slop all over yourself. I started off with a bowl of Lobster Bisque which was very good and had a lot of lobster pieces in it. I then ordered the Cajun Chicken & Shrimp which came with two sides. I chose the house salad with their Asian Vinaigrette Dressing & Cajun Fries. Everything was very good and the service was friendly and good as well. They have other things besides seafood so if you're not into seafood, you have other options to choose from.
